Both Flintoff brothers have been in Lancashire’s academy since a young age, and have played club cricket for Southport and Birkdale. They both attend Manchester Grammar School, the alma mater of former England players Michael Atherton and John Crawley as well as Lancashire’s director of cricket Mark Chilton.

Their father Andrew has returned to cricket in the last nine months, after suffering serious injuries in a high-speed crash while filming an episode of Top Gear in 2022. He will continue to work as a consultant with England at June’s T20 World Cup after spending time with their white-ball and Lions teams, and will coach Northern Superchargers in the men’s Hundred this summer.

Bangladesh have announced a 17-man preparatory squad that will train for three days in Chattogram from April 26. The group doesn’t include Shakib or Mustafizur Rahman, who is playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL until May 1. Ashraf said that Mustafizur would also miss the first T20I against Zimbabwe on May 3 in Chattogram.

The training squad includes Mohammad Saifuddin, who returns after a long injury layoff. He last played for Bangladesh shortly before the 2022 T20 World Cup and returned to action in this season’s BPL, where he was part of Fortune Barishal’s title-winning squad.

“Definitely (Mohammad) Saifuddin is a promising player and if he is not injured he could have more international experience,” Ashraf said. “He is ahead with his batting but in bowling he has competitors. Bangladesh play the first three T20Is against Zimbabwe in Chattogram on May 3, 5, and 7, and the last two T20Is in Dhaka on May 10 and 12.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, recently suggested that a bilateral series with India could be considered if India sends its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. However, BCCI sources have dismissed this possibility, stating that Team India may not even travel to Pakistan for the tournament.

The sources cited the current strained relations between India and Pakistan as a major factor in the decision. They emphasized that the Indian government’s permission would be required for the team to travel to Pakistan, and such permission is unlikely given the current political climate.

“Forget bilateral series…Team India may not even travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy,” a source told IANS. “There might be a change of venue, a hybrid model is also possible.”

The Champions Trophy is an ICC event, which makes India’s decision a difficult one. However, the sources stressed that the government’s approval is paramount.

“Bilateral series, I don’t see in the near future, that’s next to impossible,” the source added.

India and Pakistan last played a bilateral limited-overs series in 2012-13, when Pakistan toured India. In 2023, India declined to send its team to the Asia Cup in Pakistan, leading to the adoption of a hybrid model for the tournament.

Currently, India and Pakistan only face each other during ICC and continental events.
