GOS verdict
Read this first"The Gallant family's fast hands."
The Maxbolt Gallant Speed Slim is the speed racket of the Gallant series. Maxbolt builds it at 83 ± 2g with a 285 ± 3mm balance point, rates the frame to 43 lbs and labels its play style "Speed". That makes it the opposite of the Gallant Tour: instead of putting weight in the head for the smash, it keeps the head light and pairs it with an extra-slim shaft, so the racket comes through quickly and is back in position fast.
Handling, net play and drives are its strongest zones, and defence benefits too — a head-light frame is quick to get up against a smash. The honest limitation is the smash: with little weight in the head, it relies on your own racket-head speed rather than momentum, so smashes are sharp but not heavy. For an intermediate player who plays a fast, front-and-mid-court game, especially in doubles, it is a well-judged speed racket.
- A doubles player who lives at the front and mid-court
- Wanting quick hands in drives and interceptions
- A player who defends a lot and needs fast recovery
- Finding head-heavy rackets slow to bring back
- A smash specialist — choose the Gallant Tour
- A singles player who relies on heavy clears and smashes
- Wanting the racket to add power for you
- Looking for a head-heavy Gallant — choose the Gallant Force

What is the
Gallant Speed Slim?
01 / 08
The Maxbolt Gallant Speed Slim is the speed model of Maxbolt's Gallant series. Maxbolt lists it at 83 ± 2g with a 285 ± 3mm balance point, a standard 675mm length, a 43 lbs tension rating and a "Speed" play style. At GOS it comes in 4U.
Two choices define it. The 285mm balance point sits on the head-light side of even, so the racket feels quick in the hand and is easy to reset between shots. And the shaft has an extra-slim profile, which cuts through the air with less drag on the swing. Together they make a racket built for reaction speed — drives, interceptions, net kills and quick defensive blocks — rather than for heavy rear-court smashes.
The Gallant Speed Slim's defining decision is speed over weight. Where the Gallant Tour loads the head for a heavy smash, the Speed Slim keeps the head light and the shaft slim, so the racket is always ready for the next shot. The cost is smash weight: the power has to come from your own swing.

A head-light balance in an attacking family — why build a Gallant for speed?
Gallant Speed Slim — head-light, slim shaft
Alternative — head-heavy Gallant Tour
With the balance point toward the handle, the racket feels light in the hand and is quick to bring back between shots — ideal for drives, interceptions and defence.
A narrower shaft meets less air resistance on the swing, so the racket comes through faster for the same effort and helps a quick, compact swing generate pace.
A middle ground between a stiff and a flexible shaft — it gives a little back on short, fast swings without the timing demands of a stiff frame.
A high rating for a speed racket, leaving plenty of room for players who like a tight, precise string bed. Most intermediate players get the best feel in the mid 20s.

Zone-by-zone assessment
| Zone | Rating | Performance | Assessment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maneuverability | 90 | Exceptional | The racket's identity. The head-light balance and slim shaft make it quick to bring back and easy to swing in tight exchanges. |
| Net play | 87 | Exceptional | Fast to raise for net kills and interceptions, with a light head that makes quick touches easy. |
| Flat drives | 86 | Exceptional | Keeps up with fast drive exchanges and resets quickly between shots. |
| Defence | 82 | Good | Quick to get up against a smash, so blocks and lifts are easier to reach than with a head-heavy Gallant. |
| Control | 78 | Good | Reasonable placement from the medium-flex shaft, though a light head gives less stability on heavy contact than a weightier frame. |
| Smashes | 76 | Good | Honest limitation. With little weight in the head, smashes are sharp and fast but not heavy — the power comes from your own swing, not the racket. |
Real on-court situations
| Situation | Level | What the player feels |
|---|---|---|
| Fast interception at the net | Exceptional | The racket is up in front almost instantly. |
| Mid-court drive exchange in doubles | Exceptional | Quick to reset, easy to keep the exchange going. |
| Net push or dribble | Exceptional | Light and precise at the front. |
| Block against a hard smash | Good | Easy to reach; a firm grip keeps it stable. |
| Deep clear under pressure | Good | Needs a full swing — the head weight will not carry it for you. |
| Full smash from the rear court | Adequate | Sharp, but lighter than a head-heavy attacking frame. |
| Off-centre hit on heavy contact | Adequate | A light head can twist a little — clean contact matters. |
