Kent, resuming on 157 for 3, initially showed some resilience, reaching 171 before Warwickshire’s seamers, led by Oliver Hannon-Dalby, unleashed a devastating spell. Hannon-Dalby claimed three wickets in quick succession, trapping Jack Leaning and Tawanda Muyeye lbw and having Charlie Stobo caught behind.

Ed Barnard then joined the wicket-taking party, dismissing Grant Stewart and Matt Parkinson. Alfie Ogborne fell to Michael Rae, leaving Joey Evison as the lone ranger for Kent. Evison played a valiant innings, reaching a 93-ball half-century, but his efforts were in vain as he eventually holed out to Alex Davies off Michael Booth.

Hannon-Dalby finished with impressive figures of 6 for 43, taking his match tally to 9 for 74. Warwickshire’s victory was their first in the County Championship this season and moved them away from the relegation zone.

Kent, on the other hand, suffered their sixth consecutive defeat and are now in serious danger of dropping out of Division One. Injuries to Muyeye and Stewart further compounded their misery.

Warwickshire’s triumph was built on the back of their strong batting performance in the first innings, with Sam Rhodes scoring a double century and Barnard contributing 65. Kent’s bowlers struggled to contain the Warwickshire batsmen, with only Darren Stevens managing to take more than one wicket.

Harbhajan emphasized the importance of providing batters with time to adjust to spin-friendly conditions. He believes that the current approach has eroded their confidence.

“We dented the confidence of our batters because anybody can get out (cheaply) on those pitches,” he said. “We still have a chance (to rectify this). If we play on good pitches, I don’t think anyone can beat India.”

Harbhajan also highlighted the need for senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah to participate in domestic tournaments like the Duleep Trophy. He believes their presence would inspire and motivate younger players.

“It would be great if they (Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah) play in the Duleep Trophy 2024,” he said. “When a big player features in these tournaments, it motivates other players who are playing alongside them.”

Nash’s first delivery was dispatched over long-on for six. The second soared over mid-wicket, the third over long-off, and the fourth over mid-on. The fifth ball was a towering hit that cleared the long-on boundary, but Roger Davis’s attempt to catch it resulted in him falling over the rope with the ball in his hands.

Undeterred, Sobers connected with the sixth ball with such force that it sailed over the pavilion roof. The crowd erupted in thunderous applause as Sobers completed his historic six sixes.

Over the years, only a handful of other players have managed to replicate Sobers’ feat in recognized competitive cricket. Shoriful’s injury is a setback for Bangladesh, who have already missed his services in 11 Tests since his debut three years ago. However, the team will be hoping that he recovers in time for the crucial series against India.
