Sehwag Slams Ashwin for “Wickets Don’t Matter” Statement

Virender Sehwag has launched a scathing attack on Ravichandran Ashwin for his recent statement that strike rate doesn’t matter for bowlers. Sehwag, known for his outspoken nature, pointed out Ashwin’s poor wicket-taking record in the ongoing IPL 2024 and suggested that the off-spinner might not find a place in the playing XI of a team coached by him.

“This is the same as when KL Rahul had said that the strike rate doesn’t matter. Same thing. He said it for batting, Ashwin has said it for bowling that it doesn’t matter if you get the wickets. If his stats aren’t good, then he may not even get picked in the auction next year. When you pick a bowler, do you expect him to give away 25-30 runs or do you expect him to give you wickets and become man of the match twice or thrice?” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Sehwag further criticized Ashwin’s bowling style, suggesting that the off-spinner is not getting wickets because he is not bowling his best deliveries. “All his competitors – Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav or anyone else – are getting the wickets. He thinks if he bowls off spin then anyone will hit him. Which is why he bowls his carrom bowl, which is why he is not getting any wickets. Maybe if he believes in his off spin or doosra, he can bag more wickets. But that’s his mindset. But if I were a mentor or a coach of a franchise, I wouldn’t think like that. If my bowler is thinking about saving runs and not taking wickets, he won’t find a place in the team.”

Despite Ashwin’s poor form, Rajasthan Royals have continued to support him by featuring him regularly in their playing XI. However, his spin-bowling teammate at RR, Yuzvendra Chahal, has been more prolific with 13 wickets in 9 matches and has maintained an economy rate of 9.

Earlier, Ashwin had made an appeal after bowlers getting hammered in the current IPL season saying “Save the bowlers someone plsss SOS SOS SOS”.

Virat Kohli: Time Away from Cricket Brings Perspective and Gratitude

Virat Kohli: Time Away from Cricket Brings Perspective and Gratitude

Virat Kohli, India’s batting maestro, has revealed that his recent break from cricket has given him a profound perspective on his life and career. After withdrawing from the Test series against England earlier this year, Kohli took time off to be with his wife, Anushka Sharma, during the birth of their second child.

This was not the first time Kohli had stepped away from the game. In the past, periods of rest have proven beneficial for him, particularly when he has faced lean patches. Upon his return to the IPL this season, Kohli has been in scintillating form, amassing a plethora of runs and claiming the Orange Cap.

“Time away from the game made me realize how much I have been blessed with,” Kohli said in an interview with Star Sports. “I mean, where is the limit? You can get a phenomenal hundred, but the next moment, if your family member or child or your partner gets health issues, life takes a completely different turn.”

Kohli emphasized that nothing in life is guaranteed and that his focus has always been on the process. “I could have never imagined myself in this situation ever,” he said. “You kind of understand things were meant to be a certain way. The only thing you could do was work hard and be honest in what you are doing.”

Despite his years of experience, Kohli’s unwavering dedication to the game remains evident. “I never predicted that at this stage, I would have this much performance or I would be at this stage in my career where God will put me in this situation,” he said.

Kohli’s recent break has not only rejuvenated him but has also given him a renewed appreciation for the blessings in his life. He recognizes that his success on the field is only one aspect of a fulfilling existence.

MS Dhoni Unveils ‘Samurai’ Look Ahead of CSK’s Crucial IPL Clash

MS Dhoni, the legendary cricketer and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, has unveiled a striking new look ahead of the team’s crucial IPL 2024 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Dhoni’s latest hairstyle, a half ponytail reminiscent of his iconic long-haired debut days, has garnered immense attention and nostalgia among fans.

The official CSK social media handle shared the new look with the caption “7 Samurai,” drawing parallels to the samurai warriors known for their distinctive topknots. Dhoni’s transformation has sparked a wave of excitement and anticipation among CSK supporters.

Despite facing limited deliveries in IPL 2024, Dhoni has impressed with his explosive batting, assuming the role of an out-and-out finisher for his side. The veteran wicket-keeper batter has consistently guided CSK to strong finishes, ensuring the team ends on a high note.

Both CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad will be eager to bounce back from recent defeats. CSK fell to Lucknow Super Giants due to a stunning century from Marcus Stoinis, while SRH suffered a shocking collapse against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The upcoming match promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams boasting formidable squads. CSK will rely on the experience of Ajinkya Rahane, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ravindra Jadeja, while SRH will look to their in-form batters Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Rahul Tripathi.

Chennai Super Kings’ Fortress Chepauk Breached by Lucknow Super Giants

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), under the leadership of new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, had a promising start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. However, their momentum was halted by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who emerged victorious in their last two encounters.

In a stunning turn of events, the Chepauk fortress, CSK’s home ground, was breached by LSG. The visitors chased down a formidable target of 210 with ease, thanks to a brilliant century from Marcus Stoinis.

The match began with CSK posting a competitive total of 210/7 on the board. Gaikwad led the charge with a well-crafted 65, while Shivam Dubey contributed a quickfire 45. However, LSG’s bowlers, led by Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan, kept the CSK batters in check.

In response, LSG openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul provided a solid foundation with a 75-run partnership. Stoinis then took center stage, smashing a breathtaking 104 off just 56 deliveries. His innings was a masterclass in power-hitting, featuring 10 fours and 8 sixes.

Despite a late cameo from Deepak Hooda, CSK’s bowlers were unable to contain Stoinis’ onslaught. LSG cruised to victory with 10 balls to spare, handing CSK their third consecutive defeat.

The loss has raised concerns about CSK’s form and their ability to defend their title. The team has struggled to find consistency in both batting and bowling, and their fielding has also been below par.

Meanwhile, LSG’s victory has propelled them to the top of the IPL standings. Stoinis’ heroics have been a major factor in their success, and the team will be hoping to continue their winning ways in the upcoming matches.

Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team Players Injured in Road Accident After Breaching Curfew

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that at least two national women’s team members sustained serious injuries in a road accident earlier this month. The incident occurred after the players breached curfew and left the camp during a white-ball home series against the West Indies.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi revealed that five to six players had gone out in the evening in Karachi without informing the team management. They were involved in a road accident, resulting in intense injuries to at least two players who are currently undergoing treatment.

Naqvi stated that the incident had a significant impact on the team’s performance in the ODI series against the West Indies. One of the main players, Fatima Sana, was injured and missed the matches. Despite the injury, Sana surprisingly featured in all three T20I matches of the series.

The PCB has taken disciplinary action against the players involved in the incident. Naqvi emphasized that their actions were unacceptable and that the Board has appointed a full-time senior rank security police officer to enforce proper timings and ensure the safety of the team.

The incident has raised concerns about the discipline and safety of the Pakistan women’s cricket team. The PCB is in touch with potential candidates to appoint a new head coach for the team and is also considering hiring a high-profile foreign coach.

Cameron Green's Stunning Catch Stuns Gujarat Titans

Cameron Green’s Stunning Catch Stuns Gujarat Titans

Cameron Green’s spectacular catch in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world. The Australian all-rounder’s athleticism and agility were on full display as he dismissed GT skipper Shubman Gill with a stunning grab.

The incident occurred in the fourth over of RCB’s innings, with Glenn Maxwell bowling to Gill. Gill hit the ball firmly towards the long-on boundary, but Green, who was fielding at that position, anticipated the trajectory and sprinted across the turf. With impeccable timing, he extended his hands and grasped the ball inches above the ground, securing it firmly.

The crowd erupted in applause as Green’s outstanding catch sent Gill back to the pavilion. The dismissal not only halted GT’s momentum but also exemplified the unwavering commitment of players in the exhilarating realm of T20 cricket.

Green’s catch was particularly impressive considering the speed and trajectory of the ball. The lanky all-rounder had to go down low to complete the catch, demonstrating his exceptional reflexes and hand-eye coordination.

Earlier, RCB, who won the toss and opted to bowl, brought Maxwell back to their eleven, and he struck in his very first over to take the wicket of Gill.

Two weeks earlier, Green had made the decision to step back from the IPL, citing the need for a ‘mental and physical’ hiatus. Despite his undeniable talent, he encountered a string of average performances during the tournament.

Recognizing the importance of maintaining peak performance and well-being, he opted for a temporary withdrawal to recuperate and recharge.

Green’s return to the RCB lineup has been a welcome boost for the team, and his stunning catch against GT is a testament to his exceptional abilities.

“This was made when I was picked for KKR. I think it was 2:20 PM. My family’s life changed from that very point. I was auctioned for Rs 80 lakh. So the money solved all the family problems. We could repay all the debt. So my life changed from then,” said the 26-year-old batter.

Babar Azam's Frustration with Wahab Riaz Goes Viral

Babar Azam’s Frustration with Wahab Riaz Goes Viral

Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam’s frustration with former pacer Wahab Riaz has become a viral sensation on social media. The incident occurred during a six-hitting challenge between Pakistan’s senior men’s cricket team and its support staff.

Riaz, who is the chief selector of the Pakistan men’s cricket team but not part of the support staff, requested Babar to allow him to bat during the contest. However, the skipper visibly displayed his annoyance. Azhar Mahmood, Pakistan’s head coach for the recently-concluded New Zealand T20I series, intervened and pushed Riaz away.

The video of the incident, shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on April 25, has sparked discussions about the dynamics within the team. Some have speculated that Babar’s frustration may stem from Riaz’s role as chief selector, while others have suggested that it could be a reflection of the competitive nature of the challenge.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s T20I squad has been in impressive form, with skipper Babar Azam leading the charge. In the recently concluded fifth and final T20I against New Zealand, Azam scored a solid half-century (69 off 44 balls), while spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed four wickets (4-30). Pakistan ultimately emerged victorious by nine runs, squaring the series at 2-2.

The series provided both teams with valuable preparation for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup, which will be held in the United States and the West Indies in June. While Pakistan may be disappointed not to have secured a series win against a depleted New Zealand side, the visitors gained confidence from their bench strength.
