Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis opted to field first in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 15. The RCB side witnessed some notable changes, with hard-hitting batter Glenn Maxwell and pacer Mohammed Siraj being benched. In their place, right-arm pacer Lockie Ferguson was included in the playing XI.

SRH captain Pat Cummins, on the other hand, fielded an unchanged side. The match commenced with SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma facing the RCB bowlers. Head departed early, caught by Virat Kohli off the bowling of Harshal Patel. Sharma, however, played a steady innings, scoring 31 runs before being dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga.

Aiden Markram and Nitish Reddy then took charge of the SRH innings, forming a crucial partnership of 66 runs. Markram played an aggressive knock, hitting four boundaries and two sixes in his 41-run innings. Reddy, on the other hand, provided stability, scoring 30 runs off 29 deliveries.

After the dismissal of Markram and Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad provided a late surge to the SRH total. Klaasen scored a quickfire 29 off 16 balls, while Samad contributed with a 16-ball 28. SRH eventually posted a competitive total of 192/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

However, RCB’s middle order failed to capitalize on the platform provided by Kohli and Patidar. Will Jacks, Saurav Chauhan, and Dinesh Karthik all departed cheaply, leaving RCB in a precarious position.

In the end, it was Mahipal Lomror who played a valiant knock for RCB, scoring an unbeaten 42 off 28 balls. However, his efforts proved to be in vain as RCB fell short of the target by 12 runs, finishing on 180/6.

Derek Underwood, the legendary English spin bowler, passed away at the age of 78. Known as “Deadly” for his lethal left-arm action, Underwood claimed 297 wickets in 86 Tests between 1966 and 1982.

Underwood’s career began at Kent, where he made his first-class debut at 17. Over three decades, he played over 900 matches for the county, taking 2,523 wickets at an astonishing average of 19.04. His accuracy and pace made him a formidable opponent, especially on rain-affected wickets.

In the 1968 Ashes, Underwood’s brilliance was on full display. In the final Test at The Oval, he claimed four wickets in 27 balls to defeat Australia and square the series. His most remarkable performance came in 1973 at Hastings, where he took 8 for 9 to rout Sussex on a rain-soaked pitch.

Underwood’s adaptability extended to India and Australia, where he adjusted his pace to maximize his impact. He was ranked as the world’s No.1 bowler from 1969 to 1973. However, his career was marred by two controversial decisions.

In 1977, he joined World Series Cricket, and in 1981-82, he participated in the rebel tour of South Africa. These actions led to a three-year ban from internationals, effectively ending his career.

Despite these setbacks, Underwood’s legacy remains intact. He won three County Championships, two One-Day Cups, and three Benson & Hedges Cups with Kent. He was awarded an MBE in 1981 and inducted into the ICC’s Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009.

In 2011, the Annexe Stand at Kent’s home ground was renamed the ‘Underwood & Knott Stand’ in honor of his legendary partnership with wicketkeeper Allan Knott.

Police arrested Slater at a Sunshine Coast address on Friday after investigating alleged domestic violence incidents over several days. The former opening batter and TV commentator has been a prominent figure in Australian cricket since his debut during the 1993 Ashes tour.

Slater played 74 Tests for Australia, scoring 5312 runs at an average of 42.83 with 14 centuries. He also represented his country in 42 ODIs. After retiring from cricket in 2004, Slater embarked on a successful TV commentary career.

The case is due to be mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court again on Tuesday. Slater’s arrest and charges have shocked the Australian cricket community and raised concerns about domestic violence.

Even IPL teams are restricted from posting live game videos. They can only share a limited number of photographs and provide live match updates on their social media platforms. A franchise was recently fined Rs 9 lakh for sharing a video clip of a live game.

The BCCI also monitors players’ social media posts on match days. “Even players have been told to be mindful of social media posts on match days. All posts by players are being monitored,” an official said.

The broadcast rights holders, Star India for television and Viacom 18 for digital, have exclusive control over content related to “live matches” and the “field of play.” Designated BCCI staff members closely monitor posts made by commentators, IPL teams, players, and individuals present at the ground in an official capacity to enforce adherence to the rules.
