Younis Khan Slams Babar Azam, Pakistan Players for Prioritizing Personal Gains

Younis Khan Slams Babar Azam, Pakistan Players for Prioritizing Personal Gains

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has launched a scathing attack on star batter Babar Azam and other top players, accusing them of prioritizing personal gains over team goals. Younis’s criticism comes amid Pakistan’s recent struggles in both Test and white-ball cricket.

Younis highlighted the team’s failure to win games, stating that Babar and others talk more than they perform. He urged Babar to learn from Virat Kohli, who stepped down from India’s captaincy to focus on his batting.

“If Babar and other top players deliver on the field, then results will be clear to everyone. Humare players khelte kam, bolte zyada hai (I have observed that our players tend to talk more than they perform),” Younis said.

Younis also suggested that Babar focus on his fitness and work ethic, emphasizing that opportunities like these don’t come around often. He added that players should use social media wisely and let their performances on the field do the talking.

Pakistan’s head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie have advised against hasty captaincy changes, despite recent poor performances. However, there have been calls for the removal of Shan Masood as Test captain after Pakistan’s 0-2 series defeat to Bangladesh.

A PCB source has denied media speculations about Masood and Babar’s sacking, stating that the decision on captaincy rests with the coaches and selectors.

Younis’s criticism reflects the growing frustration among former players and fans over Pakistan’s recent performances. The team’s inability to win consistently has raised questions about the leadership and commitment of the players.

Sachin Tendulkar's Shot-Making: A Masterclass in Technique and Adaptability

Sachin Tendulkar’s Shot-Making: A Masterclass in Technique and Adaptability

Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary Indian cricketer, possessed an unparalleled repertoire of shots that showcased his technical brilliance and adaptability. His shot-making was a symphony of flawless technique, impeccable timing, and an uncanny ability to neutralize even the most fearsome bowlers.

Tendulkar’s technique was a masterclass in balance, footwork, and head position. He meticulously positioned his body before executing each shot, ensuring optimal power and control. His compactness at the crease allowed him to play both on the front and back foot with equal ease, making him a formidable force in both defense and attack.

One of Tendulkar’s signature shots was the uppercut, which he popularized during the latter stages of his career. This audacious stroke involved slicing a short-pitched delivery over the slips or third-man boundary. It became a potent weapon against fast bowlers, allowing Tendulkar to turn their pace to his advantage.

Tendulkar’s cut shot against fast bowlers like Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar was a testament to his exceptional hand-eye coordination and quick reflexes. Lee and Akhtar were among the fastest bowlers of their era, regularly bowling over 150 kmph. However, Tendulkar’s impeccable footwork and technique enabled him to execute the cut shot with precision, often sending the ball racing past backward point or gully.

Against Lee’s express pace, Tendulkar would use the late cut to exploit the width provided by the bowler. His quick feet allowed him to get inside the line of the ball and play it late, ensuring that it cleared the fielders and reached the boundary.

Shoaib Akhtar’s menacing speed and aggression posed a different challenge, but Tendulkar’s cut shot proved equally effective. He would often use the cut to exploit the gaps between point and gully, placing the ball with precision and control.

One of the most iconic moments in cricket history occurred during the 2003 World Cup when Tendulkar uppercut a short-pitched delivery from Akhtar over third man for a six. This audacious shot showcased his ability to use pace to his advantage and remains etched in the minds of cricket fans worldwide.

Tendulkar’s shot-making was not merely a display of technical prowess but also a reflection of his immense mental strength and adaptability. He possessed the ability to assess the situation and execute the appropriate shot with precision and confidence. This versatility made him one of the most complete and successful batsmen in cricket history.

England to Manage Jofra Archer's Workload in ODI Series Against Australia

England to Manage Jofra Archer’s Workload in ODI Series Against Australia

England’s cautious approach to Jofra Archer’s workload will continue during the upcoming five-match ODI series against Australia. Archer has been gradually reintegrated into international cricket after recovering from back and elbow injuries.

Despite his impressive performance in the T20 World Cup, Archer has been carefully managed to avoid overexertion. He played only 3.3 overs in the T20I series against Australia and was rested for the second game in Cardiff.

England’s interim coach, Marcus Trescothick, emphasized the need to manage Archer’s workload throughout the ODI series. “He’s played a really good stint of T20 cricket, but there’s a jump in intensity getting loads up to taking full part in an ODI,” Trescothick said.

Archer’s long-term goal is to return to red-ball cricket, but he has not played a first-class match since May 2021. Trescothick confirmed that Archer is comfortable with the ECB’s plan to manage his workload.

“He knows the plan,” Trescothick said. “It’s discussed long in advance of picking the team on each day. We know what we’re doing with him, and where we’re going.”

Trescothick will continue to assist England as an assistant coach for the Test series in Pakistan and New Zealand. He believes his experience working with Brendon McCullum will ensure a smooth transition when McCullum takes charge across formats in January.

“I’m directing it in a way that I know will be very similar to when he comes in,” Trescothick said. “He’ll talk the same way, manage in the same fashion, and debrief in the same way.”

Australia's Pace-Bowling Depth Tested by Injuries Ahead of India Series

Australia’s Pace-Bowling Depth Tested by Injuries Ahead of India Series

Australia’s pace-bowling depth, a cornerstone of their success in recent years, is facing a stern test with a string of injuries and absentees during their limited-overs tour of the UK.

Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Spencer Johnson, and Riley Meredith have all been ruled out with various side strains, while Josh Hazlewood’s arrival was delayed due to a minor calf strain. Hazlewood’s fitness is paramount, as he is a key figure in Australia’s plans for the upcoming five-Test series against India.

Coach Andrew McDonald emphasized that managing the workload of their fast bowlers is crucial, with the India series being the primary focus. “A lot of our priorities will be geared around that,” he said.

While the injured bowlers in England are not immediate contenders for Test spots, there are also concerns over the availability of red-ball reserves. Lance Morris and Jhye Richardson are facing injury setbacks, while Scott Boland and Michael Neser have also nursed injuries in pre-season.

Sean Abbott, who impressed with his sharp bowling in Cardiff, could be considered depending on the progress of others. Mitchell Starc will be managed carefully through the ODI series, while Pat Cummins has remained at home for strength and conditioning work.

Australia’s situation mirrors that of other nations, such as India and England, who are also grappling with managing the workload of their multi-format fast bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah’s workload is carefully monitored, while Mohammed Shami’s recovery from an ankle injury may require cautious management ahead of the Australia tour. England faces a similar challenge with Mark Wood, who has suffered another elbow problem.

Despite their resilience, Cummins, Starc, and Hazlewood have played a grueling schedule in recent seasons, raising concerns about their ability to sustain their performances throughout the India series. Cummins has hinted that things may be different this summer, with the importance of all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh being highlighted.

The current injuries have been a setback for the England tour but are not yet an immediate concern for the India series. However, Australia’s much-vaunted bowling depth may face a defining summer as they navigate the challenges of managing their fast bowlers.

Ashwin Hails Bumrah as “Once-in-a-Generation” Bowler

Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s star spinner, has heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah, calling him a “once-in-a-generation” bowler. Bumrah is set to make his return to Team India for the first time since his impressive performance at the T20 World Cup. The 30-year-old has been named in India’s Test squad against Bangladesh, which will kick off in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on September 19.

Ashwin, speaking on Vimal Kumar’s official YouTube channel, acknowledged that India has traditionally been a batsman-dominated country. However, he emphasized the importance of celebrating Bumrah’s exceptional talent. “We should celebrate him even more,” Ashwin said.

The India spinner went on to state that Bumrah is currently the most valuable Indian cricketer. “He should be treated as a champion,” Ashwin added.

Bumrah has made a significant impact on Test cricket since his debut in 2018. In 36 Test appearances, he has claimed 159 wickets, showcasing his exceptional bowling skills.

The second Test between India and Bangladesh will be held in Kanpur from September 27.

Shams Mulani's All-Round Brilliance Powers India A to Duleep Trophy Victory

Shams Mulani’s All-Round Brilliance Powers India A to Duleep Trophy Victory

Mumbai all-rounder Shams Mulani has had a first-class match of his life in the Duleep Trophy 2024 second round. After scoring a match-saving 89 in the first innings for India A against India D, Mulani now starred with the ball and with his quick thinking in the field.

Not only did he pick up four wickets in the game, the 27-year-old was able to inflict a rare type of run out. Yash Dubey, opening the batting for India D, was the victim of a stroke of misfortune and a brilliant piece of game alertness by Mulani.

Striker Ricky Bhui had played a ball bowled by Mulani down the ground, but the ball happened to deflect off non-striker Dubey’s bat. However, Dubey, thinking that the ball had slipped through, attempted to sneak a quick single.

However, an alert Mulani noticed that the ball hadn’t gone too far, and grabbed it and dislodged the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Dubey was late to react, and had to walk back to the pavilion. He was dismissed on a score of 37 off 94 balls.

India A registered a thumping 186-run victory, despite struggling at 94/5 in their first innings. Mulani’s resilient 89 had helped India A to go from there to a total of 290, after which they took a 107-run lead as India D were bowled out for just 183.

Notably, India D captain Shreyas Iyer made a duck, after walking out to bat wearing sunglasses.

In the second innings, centuries by Pratham Singh and Tilak Verma helped India A set a mammoth target of 487. India D were bowled out for 301, with Mulani dismantling the middle order by taking the wickets of Devdutt Padikkal, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson, along with his moment of genius by running out Dubey.

Mulani’s all-round performance has been a key factor in India A’s victory in the Duleep Trophy 2024 second round. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball has made him a valuable asset to the team.

England vs Australia: T20I Abandoned Due to Rain, ODI Series Looms

The highly anticipated third and deciding T20I between England and Australia was unfortunately abandoned due to persistent rain in Manchester on Sunday. The match was called off shortly after 4pm, leaving both teams to share the spoils in the three-match series.

The visitors had emerged victorious in the opening match in Southampton, while England responded with a thrilling chase in Cardiff. However, the weather conditions in Manchester proved too challenging for any meaningful cricket to take place.

Both teams were expected to recall key fast bowlers for this game. Jofra Archer and Josh Hazlewood had been rested in Cardiff, while Australia had only 11 players to choose from due to Mitchell Marsh’s illness. However, the rain prevented any XIs from being named.

Attention now turns to the five-match ODI series, which begins on Thursday in Nottingham. The forecast for the ODI series is more promising, and both teams are expected to field strong lineups.

England have named Harry Brook as captain in place of the injured Jos Buttler, while Australia will welcome back Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Starc for the 50-over games.

The ODI series will serve as an important preparation for next February’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Both England and Australia will be looking to experiment with various options over the five games, which will be played in the space of 11 days.

Virat Kohli Intensifies Preparations for Bangladesh Test Series

Virat Kohli Intensifies Preparations for Bangladesh Test Series

Virat Kohli, India’s star batter, is intensifying his preparations for the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh. After a brief hiatus from cricket, Kohli is determined to regain his form and contribute to India’s success.

During a practice session at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Kohli showcased his exceptional batting skills. A video shared by Jio Cinema captured a moment when he unleashed a powerful six that shattered a wall near the Indian dressing room. The footage highlights Kohli’s unwavering determination to excel in the upcoming series.

Following his practice session, Kohli engaged in a lengthy discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir, seeking guidance and feedback on his batting technique. Kohli’s return to the Test format marks his first appearance since India’s tour of South Africa in January. He missed the home Test series against England due to the birth of his son.

Kohli’s recent performances in the T20 World Cup and the tour of Sri Lanka have been underwhelming. However, he remains a key player for India and will be eager to prove his worth in the upcoming series.

India will face a formidable challenge against Bangladesh, who recently defeated Pakistan 2-0 in a Test series. With crucial World Test Championship (WTC) points at stake, India is gearing up for a demanding 10-match Test season. This includes a three-Test home series against New Zealand and the five-match Border-Gavaskar series in Australia later this year.

Currently, India leads the WTC table with 68.52 percentage points, closely followed by Australia at 62.50 percentage points. India’s performance in the upcoming series will be crucial in maintaining their position at the top of the standings.

Kamran Akmal Urges PCB to Retain Babar Azam as Captain, Focus on Fundamentals

Kamran Akmal Urges PCB to Retain Babar Azam as Captain, Focus on Fundamentals

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has strongly advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) against making any captaincy changes, emphasizing the need for players to improve their fundamentals to avoid costly mistakes.

Akmal’s comments come amidst reports that Babar Azam could be replaced as white-ball captain by Mohammad Rizwan. However, Akmal believes that such a move is unnecessary, especially considering Pakistan’s recent struggles in major tournaments.

“Why they wanted to bring a change now if they did not do that after losing the Asia Cup, ODI World Cup, and T20 World Cup? What difference does it make [by the way]?” Akmal questioned.

He pointed out that Pakistan’s poor performances in these tournaments were not solely due to Babar’s captaincy but rather a reflection of systemic issues within the team.

“Is it because the captain is not their favorite, and they want one of their choice? Do you think the new captain will bring Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, or Mitchell Starc into the team to boost its performance?” Akmal asked.

He stressed that the focus should be on improving the team’s fundamentals, including batting, bowling, and fielding. “If they do not get their basics right, then such blunders will continue to happen, and replacing captains will make no difference,” Akmal said.

Akmal also suggested that the entire team, including the captain, coach, and selectors, should reassess their approach and make necessary changes.

“Everyone should set their direction right and reform their thinking,” he said.

It is worth noting that Babar had stepped down as captain of all formats after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, he was reinstated as white-ball captain ahead of the 2023 T20 World Cup, replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi.
