Rishabh Pant’s Miraculous Return to Test Cricket Inspires Pakistan Legend Wasim Akram

Rishabh Pant’s remarkable return to Test cricket has left the cricketing world in awe. After a horrific car crash in December 2022, the wicket-keeper batter has shown immense resilience and determination to bounce back stronger than ever.

In the second innings of the series opener against Bangladesh, Pant scored a century, reminding everyone of his exceptional talent. His heroic performance brought tears to the eyes of many, including fans, pundits, and his peers.

Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram was among those who were deeply moved by Pant’s journey. “Look at Pant’s performance, the miracle that he has performed by showing he is superhuman by returning from his tragedy,” Akram said on Sportskeeda.

Akram praised Pant’s exemplary shots, particularly his reverse sweep against England pace great James Anderson. However, it was Pant’s mental strength that impressed Akram the most.

“The way he used to play in Test cricket, the way he performed in Australia with the century then,” said Akram. “The way he batted against England, playing a reverse sweep against [James] Anderson in Test cricket, even [Pat] Cummins. He’s special.”

“Especially what he has been through in that horrific accident, coming back from that, how mentally strong must that boy be.”

Akram believes that Pant’s story should be told to children for generations to come, as an inspiration to bounce back from difficult situations. “That’s a story to be told for generations and generations, in my opinion, to motivate young people of the world. You can come back the way Pant did,” said Akram.

“He came back and averaged 40 in the IPL, 446 runs at a strike rate of 155, he’s a miracle kid,” Akram concluded.

Pant’s return to form is a testament to his unwavering spirit and the power of human resilience. His story is an inspiration to all who face adversity, reminding us that anything is possible with determination and support.

Mohinder Amarnath: The Comeback Man and Outspoken Legend

Mohinder Amarnath: The Comeback Man and Outspoken Legend

Mohinder Amarnath, the legendary cricketer who played a pivotal role in India’s historic 1983 World Cup victory, turns 74 today. His journey has been marked by both triumph and controversy, with his outspoken nature often making headlines.

Amarnath’s contribution to India’s maiden World Cup triumph cannot be overstated. In the semifinal against England, he took two wickets and scored a crucial 46 runs. In the final against West Indies, he scored 26 runs and bowled a match-winning spell of 3/12, helping India secure a historic 43-run victory.

However, Amarnath’s career was not without its setbacks. In 1988, he was dropped from the Indian team for the home Test series against New Zealand, a decision that sparked a public outcry. Amarnath’s response was equally explosive, as he famously called the selectors “a bunch of jokers.”

The tension between Amarnath and former BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur, who was also the chairman of selectors, was a significant episode in Indian cricket during the late 1980s. Amarnath’s criticism of the selection process and his strong personality often clashed with Dungarpur’s authority.

Despite his controversial exclusion from the team, Amarnath remained a respected figure in Indian cricket. His outstanding performances on the field, particularly during India’s 1983 World Cup win, earned him a place in the hearts of cricket fans.

Known as “Jimmy,” Amarnath is the son of Lala Amarnath, the first post-independence Indian captain of India. He played 69 Tests, scoring 4,378 runs with 11 hundreds and 24 fifties, and also claimed 32 wickets. He also played 85 ODIs for India.

Amarnath’s legacy extends beyond his on-field achievements. His outspoken nature and willingness to challenge authority made him a symbol of transparency and accountability in Indian cricket. His famous “bunch of jokers” remark remains a reminder of the murky nature of selections during that era.

Vince McMahon Breaks Silence on Netflix Docuseries, Accuses Platform of Misinterpretation

Vince McMahon Breaks Silence on Netflix Docuseries, Accuses Platform of Misinterpretation

Former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has broken his silence regarding the upcoming Netflix docuseries “Mr. McMahon,” which delves into allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking against him. McMahon expressed dissatisfaction with the trailer, accusing Netflix of misinterpreting the series and conflating his on-screen persona with his real self.

The six-episode docuseries, set to premiere on September 25, covers McMahon’s 50-year journey in professional wrestling. However, McMahon claims that the trailer presents a misleading narrative, using out-of-context footage and soundbites to distort viewers’ perceptions. He emphasizes that there are two sides to every story and urges viewers to watch the entire series before forming an opinion.

McMahon’s statement comes amidst ongoing controversy surrounding his alleged misconduct. Earlier this year, he stepped down from his position as WWE Chairman and CEO following an investigation into the allegations. The docuseries is expected to shed light on these allegations and their impact on McMahon’s personal and professional life.

Despite his concerns about the trailer, McMahon acknowledges the opportunity the docuseries presents to tell his story. He hopes that viewers will approach the series with an open mind and consider all perspectives before reaching a conclusion.

The docuseries features interviews with McMahon himself, as well as wrestling legends such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, and Paul “Triple H” Levesque. It promises to provide an in-depth look at McMahon’s rise to prominence in the wrestling industry and the challenges he faced along the way.

Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh: Elaborate security arrangements have been implemented for the upcoming second Test match between India and Bangladesh, scheduled to take place at the International Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27.

To ensure the safety of the teams and spectators, an FIR has been filed against 20 members of the Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha for allegedly obstructing traffic and organizing a protest outside the stadium on Monday. The protest was held to condemn alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.

Kanpur’s Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Harish Chander, stated that a comprehensive security plan has been devised for the arrival of the Indian and Bangladeshi cricket teams on Tuesday evening. The plan includes the deployment of adequate police personnel, including senior officers, to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents.

“We are leaving no stone unturned in our security arrangements and are confident of receiving sufficient police force to meet the requirements,” Chander said.

Coordination is ongoing with central and state agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the state Intelligence, to monitor potential threats and respond swiftly. The Green Park Stadium and Hotel Landmark have been divided into sectors, zones, and sub-zones, with DCP, additional DCP, and ACP rank officials assigned to each area.

Traffic diversions have also been implemented in the vicinity of the stadium to facilitate smooth movement of vehicles and spectators.

The FIR against the Hindu Mahasabha members includes charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, disobeying orders, and obstructing public ways. The accused include Rakesh Mishra, Vikas, Atul, Jaydeep, Vikas Gupta, Prashant Dheer, Ajay Rathore, Ashish, Brajesh, and approximately 10 unidentified individuals.

Shakib Al Hasan Set to Return to Bangladesh for South Africa Tests

Shakib Al Hasan Set to Return to Bangladesh for South Africa Tests

Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s star cricketer, is expected to return home for the upcoming Test series against South Africa despite being named in a murder case. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed confidence that Shakib will not face any legal hurdles upon his arrival.

The case stems from the death of Mohammed Rubel, who was fatally wounded during anti-government protests in Dhaka on August 5. Shakib, who was a member of parliament at the time, was among 147 people named in the murder case.

However, the BCB’s cricket operations chief, Shahriar Nafees, stated that the caretaker government has clarified that Shakib will not be “harassed.” He cited statements from the chief adviser, law adviser, and sports adviser, who have emphasized that no one will be unfairly targeted in the cases filed.

“We believe the interim government has made its position very clear on Shakib,” Nafees said. “Unless there is an injury problem or a selection-related issue, I personally don’t see any reason as of now why Shakib Al Hasan should not play in Bangladesh in the home series.”

Shakib’s return to Bangladesh has been a topic of speculation since the murder case was filed. Last month, Bangladesh’s law adviser, Asif Nazrul, expressed hope that Shakib would not be arrested.

Despite the legal concerns, Shakib has received support from his Bangladesh teammates. However, his silence during the student-led protests has also drawn criticism.

Bangladesh is currently in India for a series of Tests and T20Is. They are scheduled to play two home Tests against South Africa in October. CSA’s security team has completed its evaluation of Dhaka and Chattogram, where the Tests will be played, and is expected to inform the BCB about its decision later this week.

BCCI Apex Council to Discuss Byju's Matter, NCA Inauguration

BCCI Apex Council to Discuss Byju’s Matter, NCA Inauguration

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Apex Council will convene on Wednesday to address various matters pertaining to the Board’s operations. However, the appointment of a new secretary to succeed Jay Shah, who was recently elected as the next ICC Chairman, is not on the agenda.

This meeting marks the final Apex Council gathering before the Board’s 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bengaluru, scheduled to take place in five days. The appointment of a new secretary has become imperative following Shah’s unanimous election as ICC Chairman. However, he will continue in his current role as BCCI Secretary during the upcoming AGM, as he is set to assume his new position only from December 1.

Despite the need for a new secretary, the eight-item agenda for the Apex Council meeting does not include any discussion on the nomination process. Instead, the agenda focuses on other matters, including an update on the Byju’s matter. The BCCI has an outstanding payment settlement issue with its former title sponsor, Byju’s, which ended its sponsorship deal in March 2023.

The Apex Council will also discuss the inauguration of the state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Currently, the NCA operates from the M Chinnaswamy stadium premises, where it has been based for over two decades.

Other agenda items include approval for the commencement of renovation work on the exteriors of the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and the North East development project.

Delhi HC Intervenes in AITA Election, Seeks Stand on Sports Code Violation

Delhi HC Intervenes in AITA Election, Seeks Stand on Sports Code Violation

The Delhi High Court has intervened in the upcoming All India Tennis Association (AITA) elections, scheduled for September 28th, following a petition filed by former Indian tennis players Somdev Devvarman and Purav Raja. The petitioners allege that the AITA is violating the Sports Code in its conduct of the election.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav issued notices to the AITA and the Central Government, seeking their responses to the petition. The court has directed that the election results will not be published until the outcome of the plea.

The petitioners’ counsel argued that the AITA is holding the election in a secretive manner, with no information available on its website. They contend that this violates the Sports Code and previous court rulings.

The court declined to stay the election at this stage but emphasized that if the election is found to be in violation of the Code, the elected office bearers will not be allowed to function. An independent entity may be appointed in their place.

“If the election process is conducted in defiance of the subsisting directions, the office bearers will be restrained from functioning. Then we will consider appointing someone as the ad hoc (body)…That election will be set aside,” the court stated.

The court has directed the petitioners to include the Returning Officer of the election as a party to the proceedings and has asked the respondents to file their replies. The matter will be heard again on October 14th.

The AITA’s alleged violation of the Sports Code has raised concerns about the transparency and fairness of the election process. The court’s intervention is a significant step towards ensuring that the election is conducted in accordance with the law.

Western Australia Collapse to Two-Run Defeat in One-Day Cup

Western Australia Collapse to Two-Run Defeat in One-Day Cup

Western Australia’s One-Day Cup woes continued as they suffered a dramatic two-run defeat to South Australia at Sydney’s Cricket Central. The three-time defending champions collapsed from a promising position of 133 for 3, losing their last seven wickets for just 31 runs.

South Australia’s total of 166 was built around contributions from Daniel Drew (49) and Liam Scott (46). However, it was Western Australia’s Bryce Jackson who stole the show with a career-best List A haul of 6 for 31.

In reply, Western Australia looked set for victory with Ashton Turner (53) and Sam Whiteman (48) leading the charge. But the match turned on its head when Whiteman was caught at deep square leg, triggering a collapse that saw the last seven wickets fall for just 31 runs.

Nathan McAndrew was the chief destroyer, claiming 5 for 40, including the wickets of Matthew Kelly and AJ Tye in consecutive deliveries. Ben Manenti then delivered the final blow, dismissing Turner to seal the win for South Australia.

The defeat leaves Western Australia with their worst start to a season since 2015, while South Australia claimed their first win over their rivals since 2017.
