IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad Snatch Last-Ball Victory Over Rajasthan Royals

In a thrilling encounter that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pulled off a remarkable last-ball victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match.

Suresh Raina’s Cousin Killed in Hit-and-Run Incident

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina’s cousin, Saurabh Kumar, and his friend Shubham were tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident near Gaggal airport in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm when the victims’ scooter collided with a car driven by Sher Singh.

According to the police, Singh fled the scene but was later arrested in Mandi with the help of CCTV footage. He has been charged under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, along with section 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the cricketing community and beyond. Raina, who is currently playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), expressed his grief and condolences on social media.

“My heart is broken. I have lost my cousin brother Saurabh Kumar and his friend Shubham in a tragic accident. They were like my own brothers. I can’t believe they are gone,” Raina tweeted.

Raina’s decision to withdraw from the IPL 2020 season in the UAE was also due to a family tragedy. He revealed that his relatives were killed in Punjab by a group of gangsters, and he needed to be with his family during this difficult time.

“There was bereavement in the family, I went to Punjab. In my uncle’s family, there were deaths. The kaccha gang..who come with oil on their body. A group of gangsters killed the entire family, my grandmother was also there. It happened in Pathankot. So I went there. But there was a bio-bubble in the IPL, where you couldn’t return. My father was very upset. When the Kachche gang did what they did, my entire family was in stress. I thought cricket came next, I could play anytime, first, my family was important,” Raina said during an interaction on Lallantop.

The cricketing fraternity has come together to offer their support to Raina and his family during this difficult time. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed its condolences and said that it would provide all necessary assistance to Raina and his family.

Rohit Sharma Hints at Off-Spin Role in India’s T20 World Cup Squad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors have raised eyebrows by opting for four spinners in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, but none of them are right-arm off-spin options. The chosen spinners include wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, and left-arm spinners Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja.

During a press conference at the BCCI headquarters, skipper Rohit Sharma was questioned about the absence of off-spinners in the squad. We thought having two left-arm spinners would be beneficial, as Ashwin hasn’t played the format lately. Axar was in good form when he played those five matches against Australia. He has been bowling well and gives us that left-handed option in the middle if we want to do something different,” Rohit explained.

BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar also hinted at the possibility of Rohit bowling off-spin. “Hopefully, the captain can roll his arm over,” Agarkar said.

Agarkar also shed light on the decision to appoint Hardik Pandya as the vice-captain for the World Cup. “Nothing was discussed with regards to vice-captaincy. We want all guys to be in good form. He has come after a longish year off. The good part that we have looked at is he has got through all the games so far for MI,” Agarkar said.

“We have got another month and a little bit till the first game. We know he is doing that and the hope is that he keeps building on that form. As long as he stays fit, we know what he brings, how much balance he gives the team. I don’t think there is a replacement for the things that he can do as a cricketer at the moment, especially when it comes to the way he bowls,” Agarkar added.

Salima Tete Replaces Savita Punia as Indian Women’s Hockey Captain

Savita, 33, will continue to play as a goalkeeper, along with Bichu Devi Kharibam. The defensive line-up includes Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Monika, Jyoti Chhatri, and Mahima Chaudhary.

The midfield will be marshalled by Tete, Kaur, Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Neha, Jyoti, Baljeet Kaur, Manisha Chauhan, and Lalremsiami. The forward line will have Mumtaz Khan, Sangita Kumari, Deepika, Sharmila Devi, Preeti Dubey, Vandana Katariya, Sunelita Toppo, and Deepika Soreng.

India has had a mixed performance in the Pro League so far, with two outright wins, one shootout victory, and five losses. They will play four matches against Argentina and hosts Belgium in Antwerp from May 22 to 26 before travelling to London where they will face Germany and hosts Great Britain in another four games from June 1 to 9.
