World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka joined forces with ATP Top 10 stars Hubert Hurkacz and Taylor Fritz. Off-court couple Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas shared the court, while Caroline Wozniacki made a highly anticipated return alongside Holger Rune.

“There is a lot to do and salary is just one of the things,” she says. “I would like institutions to make a good investment in women’s football so that it gives us an opportunity to grow.”

Bonmati hopes that one day, boys and girls will have women footballers as idols. “That didn’t exist” in her time, she says. “I grew up idolising Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and Lionel Messi for the way they took care of the ball.”

Legendary Indian cricketer Mohinder Amarnath has lauded the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to prioritize domestic cricket, making it mandatory for all fit and available players to represent their state teams.

“It’s a positive move that should have been implemented long ago,” Amarnath said at the launch of the JITO Premier League. “It should apply to all cricketers, not just a select few.”

Amarnath emphasized the importance of domestic cricket in developing players’ skills and fostering a strong foundation for the national team. “Everybody should play domestic cricket,” he asserted.

When asked about the specific cases of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer being instructed to play domestic cricket, Amarnath stated, “There should be no need for warnings. Decisions should be made and applied to everyone.”

He urged the BCCI to enforce strict rules and ensure that all Indian players participate in domestic competitions. “Players cannot make their own decisions,” he said. “It’s up to the BCCI and state associations to determine what’s best.”

Amarnath also praised R. Ashwin for surpassing 500 wickets in Tests and playing his 100th Test for India. “He’s a fantastic cricketer,” Amarnath said. “I remember watching him for the first time when I was a consultant with Bengal Cricket. He showed his class immediately.”

Amarnath expressed surprise at Ashwin’s occasional exclusion from the team but expressed confidence in his continued success. “He’s a fine bowler both at home and overseas,” he said. “I’m sure he will keep performing and contributing to the team.”

Ahead of the fifth and final Test of the five-match series against England in Dharamsala, India captain Rohit Sharma expressed uncertainty about the meaning of “Bazball.” The term, coined by English cricket commentator Simon Hughes, refers to England’s aggressive batting approach under new coach Brendon McCullum.

“I honestly don’t know what [Bazball] means, whether it is to go and strike, whether it is to go and defend and wait for the loose ball,” Rohit said in the pre-match press conference.

Rohit questioned the significance of the term, stating that he had not witnessed any excessive swinging from England’s batters. “I have not seen any wild swinging from anyone, so I don’t know exactly what this term means,” he added.

Despite his uncertainty about the term, Rohit acknowledged England’s improved performance since McCullum’s appointment. “But, yeah, clearly they have played better cricket from what they played the last time they were here,” he said. “And you got to give credit to two of their batters who got big hundreds there and played well.”

Rohit also responded to England opener Ben Duckett’s comment that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s aggressive batting was influenced by Bazball. “There was a guy called Rishabh Pant in our team, probably Ben Duckett hasn’t seen him play,” Rohit said.

England have faced three consecutive losses in the series, unable to capitalize on their early 1-0 advantage. The visitors had their chances, notably in Rajkot and Ranchi, but India came back strong on both occasions to win.

The fifth and final Test match will begin on March 7 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala and conclude on March 11, 2024. India and England still have World Test Championship points to gain in Dharamsala, even though the series is decided. India is on top of the World Test Championship standings while England is eighth on the points table.

Coach Chris Silverwood also approached the fourth official to express his concerns.

Sarkar, who was on 14 at the time, eventually fell for 26 in the seventh over. The controversial decision left a sour taste in the Sri Lankan camp, who felt they had been unfairly denied a wicket.

The incident highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the use of technology in cricket. While Ultra-edge has been instrumental in reducing umpiring errors, it can also lead to contentious decisions when the evidence is inconclusive. In this case, the misalignment between the ball and the spike on Ultra-edge left room for interpretation, ultimately resulting in a decision that favored the batter.

Fritz joins Matteo Berrettini, who’s worn Hugo Boss since 2022, as high-profile clients on the ATP tour. The brand also recently announced its foray into women’s tennis apparel by signing rising young Germans Noma Noha Akugue, 20, and Ella Seidel, 19.

The 2024 Candidates Tournament, a prestigious chess event organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), is scheduled to take place in Toronto from April 3 to 23. However, the tournament’s location remains uncertain due to visa issues affecting several participants.

Five Indian players have received visa approvals for the tournament: Praggnanandhaa R, Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, and Gukesh D in the Open category, and Vaishali Rameshbabu and Koneru Humpy in the Women’s category. However, three players and an official from other countries are still awaiting their visas.

Vladimir Drkulec, president of the Chess Federation of Canada, confirmed that all Indian participants have received their visas and will be able to participate in the tournament. However, he emphasized that the tournament will be moved to Spain if all players from other countries do not receive their visas by Friday.

“We are down to ten visas still needing approval. There are no Indians on that list,” Drkulec said. “But it won’t do any good if we don’t get all the players approved from other countries as the tournament will move to Spain.”

FIDE has issued an urgent appeal to Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Marc Miller, to resolve the visa issue. FIDE director general Emil Sutovsky has stated that the tournament will not be postponed or players replaced due to visa issues.

This will be the first time the Candidates Tournament, which has been held for nearly 70 years, will be held in North America. The tournament features 16 of the world’s top chess players, including Magnus Carlsen, the reigning World Champion.

If Rishabh Pant stayed on the crease for half an hour, then India could have won that match as well,” Gavaskar said.

“That’s why I always say, you don’t need big names… If any big name thinks that India won’t win without him, these two series have shown that whether you are there or not… Cricket is a team sport. It doesn’t depend on one individual.”

The success of the Indian team under captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid has highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent and fostering a positive team environment.
