“I knew that if I didn’t get past at the start of the stint, I was never going to get past,” said Piastri. “So I went for a pretty big lunge but managed to pull it off and then hang on for dear life for the next 35 laps.”

Piastri’s victory, coupled with Lando Norris’ fourth-place finish, propelled McLaren to the top of the constructors’ standings, ending Red Bull’s dominance. It marked the first time McLaren had led the championship since 2014.

While Piastri may be out of contention for the title with 91 points separating him from leader Max Verstappen, his performance has demonstrated that he is a champion in the making. He has proven himself to be as fast and consistent as Norris, who remains the only real challenger to Verstappen this season.
