Jannik Sinner Bolsters Team with Experienced Trainer and Physiotherapist

Jannik Sinner Bolsters Team with Experienced Trainer and Physiotherapist

Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked tennis player, has bolstered his team with the addition of trainer Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio. The announcement comes after Sinner’s recent triumph at the US Open, his second Grand Slam title of the season.

Panichi and Badio bring a wealth of experience to Team Sinner, having previously worked with Novak Djokovic. Badio parted ways with Djokovic after the 2022 season, while Panichi left in May.

Sinner’s decision to add Panichi and Badio to his team follows a tumultuous period in which he tested positive for the anabolic steroid clostebol twice in March. While an independent tribunal found that the substance entered his system unintentionally, Sinner lost trust in his former trainer and physiotherapist, who were the sources of the banned substance.

The 23-year-old Italian is currently enjoying a stellar season, with a 55-5 record and a commanding lead in the race for ATP year-end No. 1. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency could still appeal the decision that exonerated him to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Panichi and Badio join coaches Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill in the new-look Team Sinner. Panichi recently began working with 19-year-old Jerry Shang, who reached the third round of the US Open.

Sinner’s decision to add experienced professionals to his team is a testament to his commitment to maintaining his dominance in the sport. With a strong support system in place, he will aim to continue his winning ways and cement his status as one of the world’s top players.

Glasgow to Host Scaled-Down Commonwealth Games in 2026

Glasgow to Host Scaled-Down Commonwealth Games in 2026

Glasgow, the vibrant Scottish capital, is poised to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games, a scaled-down version of the multi-sport event that was originally scheduled for Victoria, Australia. The Australian state withdrew in 2023 due to soaring costs, leaving the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) scrambling for a new host.

Glasgow, which successfully hosted the Games in 2014, has stepped forward with a proposal to host a more modest event, featuring fewer sports and utilizing existing venues. The Scottish government is close to finalizing a deal with Glasgow, which would see the city host the Games for an estimated cost of £130-150 million (USD 170 million).

The Australian authorities have pledged a “multi-million pound investment” to support Glasgow’s bid, which will likely cover additional policing and security expenses. The number of sports in the 2026 Games will be reduced to between 10-13, with a focus on core sports.

UK Health Secretary Neil Gray emphasized that the 2026 Games will differ from the highly successful 2014 edition. He acknowledged the challenge of matching the previous event’s legacy but expressed optimism that Glasgow could deliver a positive experience with a smaller-scale approach.

CGF President Chris Jenkins praised Scotland’s innovative and sustainable concept for the 2026 Games. He believes that Glasgow’s experience in hosting major sporting events makes it well-equipped to deliver a world-class event in a short timeframe.

Jenkins also emphasized the need for a new model for multi-sports events, one that is more sustainable and accessible to a wider range of host cities. He believes that Glasgow 2026 will be a step towards resetting and reframing the Commonwealth Games as a flexible and sustainable model.

Sebastian Coe Leads Race to Succeed Thomas Bach as IOC President

Sebastian Coe Leads Race to Succeed Thomas Bach as IOC President

Sebastian Coe, the former Olympic champion and current World Athletics chief, has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to succeed Thomas Bach as president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Coe faces stiff competition from Kirsty Coventry, who aims to become the first woman and African to lead the IOC, and cycling boss David Lappartient.

Coe’s bid is complicated by IOC Ethics Commission rules that limit the retirement age for members and presidents to 74. Coe will turn 68 in September, and an eight-year mandate would extend beyond that age. However, there is room for maneuver to raise the retirement age.

The election will take place at the IOC Session in Athens from March 18-21, 2025. Bach, 70, is stepping down after 12 years in office.

Other candidates include Prince Faisal al-Hussein of Jordan, gymnastics chief Morinari Watanabe, Juan Antonio Samaranch Junior, and ski federation president Johan Eliasch.

Under election rules, Coe, Eliasch, Lappartient, and Watanabe must resign as heads of their respective federations and seek re-election as individual members at the Athens Session.

The candidates will present their programs to IOC members in January 2025. A transition period will follow the election, with the new president and team taking control in June.

Bach’s tenure has been marked by challenges, including the Russian doping scandal and the invasion of Ukraine. Coe has taken a stronger stance on banning Russian athletes than Bach, which has strained their relationship.

Despite these challenges, Bach is credited with successfully navigating the IOC through the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring the Tokyo Games took place in 2021.

Michael Payne, the IOC’s former head of marketing, believes Bach has done an outstanding job. However, he warns that his successor faces significant challenges, including the increasing politicization of sport and the rapidly changing business and broadcast environment.

Sarfaraz Khan Excited to Share Dressing Room with Virat Kohli Ahead of Bangladesh Tests

Sarfaraz Khan Excited to Share Dressing Room with Virat Kohli Ahead of Bangladesh Tests

Ahead of the highly anticipated two-match Test series against Bangladesh, Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan expressed his excitement at the prospect of sharing the dressing room with Indian legend Virat Kohli. Khan, who made his Test debut against England earlier this year, is eager to connect with his former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate.

During the England series, Khan was unable to meet Kohli, who withdrew due to personal reasons. However, the youngster has always admired Kohli’s leadership skills and ability to inspire his team.

“His passion and spirit are unmatched. Whenever I saw him, even in pre-match meetings, he’d take charge and tell everyone how many runs he’d score off a particular bowler and break that down for everyone,” Khan told JioCinema. “To be gutsy enough to stand up and talk with such positivity in front of everyone and then deliver the next day is a very unique ability.”

Khan also shared his first encounter with Kohli, expressing his desire to be his teammate in the national team. “I met him at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for the first time. I had scored 45 runs in 21 balls here and he bowed to me. I had a lot of fun that day. It was a dream to share an Indian team dressing room with him, and it will come true in the future if I get the opportunity.”

Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel hopes to continue his strong form from his debut Test series against Bangladesh. Jurel sought Kohli’s advice on maintaining consistency throughout his career.

“I asked him how he stayed so consistent and how I could improve my game. It’s something I’ve always been curious about. I even asked Dhoni sir the same thing. They have become legends, and there must be a secret behind it. I know now that doing what seems boring and easy repetitively has built these legends,” Jurel said.

Kohli emphasized the importance of discipline and repetition in achieving success. “Kohli told me that if doing the boring things were so easy to do, everyone would be doing it. You have to keep doing those things, and then you’ll be able to accomplish your dreams,” Jurel added.

Khan has learned the value of routine and self-awareness from observing Kohli over the years at RCB. “He is clear about his game. He knows the work a player needs to keep doing and that criticism or praise shouldn’t affect your game. ‘This is my work, I have to do this in the morning, this in the afternoon, this in the evening, and sleep at a specific time.’ That’s what I have learned from him.”

Both players also highlighted specific aspects of Kohli’s batting technique that impressed them. Jurel praised his ability to step out and hit over the covers, while Khan admired his flick shot and cover drive.

The first Test between India and Bangladesh will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from Thursday.

Virat Kohli’s Gesture of Respect Inspires Young Sarfaraz Khan

For a 17-year-old Sarfaraz Khan, being greeted by Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli with a bow and folded hands was a surreal experience. The gesture, which came after Khan’s impressive performance for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL), left an unforgettable mark on the young batter.

On April 29, 2015, Khan had just scored a blistering 21-ball 45 for RCB, helping his team reach a formidable total of 200 for 7 against Rajasthan Royals. As Khan returned to the pavilion, Kohli, the RCB captain, approached him with a warm smile and a respectful bow.

Recalling the moment, Khan expressed his admiration for Kohli’s humility and leadership. “I met him at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for the first time. I had scored 45 runs in 21 balls here and he bowed at me. I had a lot of fun that day. It was a dream to share an Indian team dressing room with him; it will come true in the future if I get the opportunity,” Khan told Jio Cinema.

Khan also praised Kohli’s unwavering passion and dedication to the game. “His (Virat Kohli’s) passion and spirit are unmatched. Whenever I saw him, even in the pre-match meetings, he’d take charge and tell everyone how many runs he’d score off a particular bowler and break that down for everyone. To be gutsy enough to stand up and talk with such positivity in front of everyone and then deliver the next day is a very unique ability,” Khan said.

The mutual respect between Kohli and Khan is set to continue as they prepare to team up for India in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. While Kohli has been training in Chennai, Khan is expected to join the squad soon after completing his Duleep Trophy commitments.

Khan’s journey from a young prodigy to a potential Indian star has been marked by hard work and determination. His ability to perform under pressure and his unwavering belief in his abilities have earned him the admiration of fans and fellow players alike. With Kohli as his mentor and guide, Khan is poised to make a significant impact on the international stage.

Head Gravity Tour 98: A New Era of Control and Spin

Head’s Gravity series has long been renowned for its blend of classic feel and modern power. Now, the company is introducing a new addition to the family: the Gravity Tour 98. This limited-edition racquet is designed to provide players with an unparalleled combination of control, spin, and playability.

The Gravity Tour 98 features a smaller 98-square-inch head and a more open 16×19 string pattern compared to its predecessor. This combination enhances the racquet’s maneuverability and spin potential while maintaining the control and feel that advanced players demand.

The racquet’s unique half cap grommet construction contributes to its exceptional feel and sound at contact. It also provides additional protection to the top of the hoop, ensuring durability and longevity.

Early testing by Head has revealed that the Gravity Tour 98 has been met with rave reviews. Players have praised its added liveliness and spin potential, while still maintaining the control and precision that tournament-level players require.

Head believes that the Gravity Tour 98 fills a gap in its lineup. It offers more control and feel than the Radical, Extreme, and Boom 98s, while providing more punch and spin than the Prestige. The closest comparisons from competing brands would be the Wilson Blade 98 (16×19) and Yonex Percept 97.

Arjun Tendulkar Shines with Nine-Wicket Haul in Pre-Season Tournament

Arjun Tendulkar Shines with Nine-Wicket Haul in Pre-Season Tournament

Arjun Tendulkar, the son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has made a strong statement ahead of the upcoming first-class season with a match-winning nine-wicket haul in Goa’s innings and 189-run victory over hosts Karnataka in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament.

In the first innings, Karnataka was dismissed for a paltry 103, with Arjun claiming 5/41 in 13 overs. Goa then posted a formidable 413, thanks to a century from Abhinav Tejrana (109) and a solid 69 from Manthan Khutkar.

In the second innings, KSCA XI showed some improvement but were eventually bowled out for 121, with Arjun taking 4/46 in 13.3 overs. His match haul of 9/87 in 26.3 overs was instrumental in Goa’s comprehensive victory.

Arjun, who will turn 25 next week, has now played 49 competitive games across three formats at the senior level, claiming 68 wickets. In 13 first-class matches, he has taken 21 wickets.

Arjun’s performance has drawn comparisons to his illustrious father, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. However, Arjun’s journey has been marked by both challenges and opportunities.

He has previously trained under former India player Yograj Singh, the father of Yuvraj Singh. Yograj has praised Arjun’s potential but also emphasized the importance of proper guidance and support.

“Arjun Tendulkar came to you for training. How do you see his future?” Yograj was asked in an interview.

“Have you seen diamond in a coal mine? Woh Koyla hi hai..nikalo patthar hi hai, kisi tarashgir ke haath me dalo to chamak ke duniya ko kohinoor ban jata hai (It is coal that is rock when taken out from a mine, but if it is given in proper hands, it goes on to become Kohinoor. It is priceless. But if that same diamond reaches a person who does not know its worth, he destroys it. I don’t say it myself that Yograj Singh is a great character, Yuvraj Singh says it, ‘there is magic in my dad’s hand, he made me what I am.’ Earlier, I was abused ‘Hitler, Dragon Singh, I hate my father’. Everybody hated me in my home. My relatives said, I should not have been a father,” Yograj Singh replied.

“But he walked his path. And by God’s Grace you got Yuvraj Singh.”

Arjun’s performance in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament suggests that he is on the right track. With his talent and determination, he has the potential to follow in his father’s footsteps and make a significant impact on the cricketing world.

Laver Cup, a relatively young event in the tennis calendar, has quickly gained immense popularity and appeal. Launched in 2017, it has become a unique and captivating spectacle that transcends the boundaries of the sport.

The event’s allure stems from its unique format and the presence of legendary figures. Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe serve as captains, while the aura of Rod Laver, the namesake of the competition, adds to its historical significance. Jaiswal Faces Bumrah's Test, Prepares for Bangladesh Series

Jaiswal Faces Bumrah’s Test, Prepares for Bangladesh Series

Yashasvi Jaiswal Faces Jasprit Bumrah’s Test in Preparation for Bangladesh Series

India’s rising star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is gearing up for his second Test season with a stern challenge from pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the nets. During the ongoing camp, Jaiswal faced a barrage of deliveries from Bumrah, who repeatedly sent his off-stump flying.

Jaiswal, who boasts an impressive record of over 1000 runs in his first nine Tests, has been touted as a future star. However, concerns have been raised about his form on bouncy tracks, particularly evident during India’s tour of South Africa.

In the nets on Monday, Bumrah tested Jaiswal’s technique with pace, bounce, and swing. Jaiswal struggled to judge the deliveries, often mistiming his shots. Even net bowlers like Simarjeet Singh, Gurnoor Brar, and Gurjanpreet Singh managed to beat his bat repeatedly.

Seasoned player Virat Kohli observed Jaiswal’s struggles and offered guidance. Both players batted for about an hour, with Kohli showcasing his impeccable cover drive and on-drive. Jaiswal focused on leaving deliveries, particularly from Bumrah, on a pitch with significant bounce.

As the session progressed, Jaiswal appeared more comfortable against spinners, while Rishabh Pant displayed his batting prowess against left-arm spinners.

Jaiswal’s preparation is crucial as he aims to maintain his reputation and perform well in the upcoming season. He will need to address his vulnerabilities before taking on international bowlers like those from Bangladesh and Australia.
