Ekta Vishnoi: A Trailblazing Senior Bureaucrat and Powerlifting Champion

At an age when most people contemplate retirement, Ekta Vishnoi, a senior bureaucrat in Delhi, is defying societal norms and proving that age is merely a number when it comes to fitness and athleticism.

Vishnoi, the Deputy Director General at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), is the driving force behind the successful Fit India Movement. However, her passion for fitness extends beyond her administrative role. She has recently made waves in the world of powerlifting, winning multiple medals and breaking records at the National Senior Powerlifting Championship in Hyderabad.

Competing against women half her age, Vishnoi showcased her exceptional strength and determination. She secured a Silver medal in deadlift with a best lift of 165kg and a Bronze overall with best lifts of 132.5 kg in squat, 70 kg in bench press, and 165 kg in deadlift. These lifts shattered all records in the Master 2 category.

Vishnoi’s impressive achievements do not end there. She has previously won a gold medal in the national masters powerlifting championship and a gold and silver medal in the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship and Asian Powerlifting Championship in 2022. Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Vishnoi is also making significant contributions as an administrator. The draw for IPL 2024 has resulted in MI facing CSK only once in the league stage. Therefore, it is impossible for MI to avenge their Sunday loss during the league stage.

However, if both teams qualify for the playoffs and face off again, it will provide MI with an opportunity to seek redemption.

The charges span from December 5, 2023, to April 12, 2024, and include unlawful stalking or intimidation, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, choking or suffocation, breaching bail, and ten counts of contravening a domestic violence order.

Police arrested Slater at a Sunshine Coast address on Friday after investigating alleged domestic violence incidents over several days. The former opening batter and TV commentator has been a prominent figure in Australian cricket since his debut during the 1993 Ashes tour.

Slater played 74 Tests for Australia, scoring 5312 runs at an average of 42.83 with 14 centuries. He also represented his country in 42 ODIs. After retiring from cricket in 2004, Slater embarked on a successful TV commentary career.

The case is due to be mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court again on Tuesday. Slater’s arrest and charges have shocked the Australian cricket community and raised concerns about domestic violence.

Tanvi’s injury delayed her plans to embark on the Tour, but she has been selected for the Uber Cup. “I am really excited to be part of the Indian team again,” she said. “It will be a very good exposure for me.”

Tanvi’s goal is to emulate Sindhu’s aggressive style of play. She plans to focus on international series, international challengers, and the world junior championships this year.

Despite the high cost of training, Tanvi’s determination remains unwavering. She plans to move to the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati in the future to further her development.

The decision was prompted by an incident where a former India batter posted a picture of himself commentating during an IPL game on social media. The broadcast-rights holders objected, and the BCCI staff member asked him to delete the post.

To ensure compliance, the BCCI has notified all parties involved that violations will result in consequences. “The broadcasters have paid big money for IPL rights. So commentators cannot post videos or photographs on match day on social media,” a BCCI official stated.

Even IPL teams are restricted from posting live game videos. They can only share a limited number of photographs and provide live match updates on their social media platforms. A franchise was recently fined Rs 9 lakh for sharing a video clip of a live game.

The BCCI also monitors players’ social media posts on match days. “Even players have been told to be mindful of social media posts on match days. All posts by players are being monitored,” an official said.

The broadcast rights holders, Star India for television and Viacom 18 for digital, have exclusive control over content related to “live matches” and the “field of play.” Designated BCCI staff members closely monitor posts made by commentators, IPL teams, players, and individuals present at the ground in an official capacity to enforce adherence to the rules.
