At the age of 35, Jay Shah makes history by becoming the youngest chairman to lead Cricket’s global governing body, succeeding New Zealand’s Greg Barclay.

Jay Shah is set to take the throne at the end of November 2024. Upon his election, he expressed his thoughts of making cricket more inclusive and popular across the globe.  He stated, “We stand at a critical juncture where it is increasingly important to balance the coexistence of multiple formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and introduce our marquee events to new global markets”. Jay Shah views the inclusion of cricket in Olympics 2028 as a significant point for Growth and engagement in the sport. 

Jay Shah started his leadership by working with the Central Board of Cricket Ahmedabad (CBCA)  and now after all the years of dedicated service is now Chairman of ICC. His leadership also focuses on welcoming opportunities, prioritizing women’s cricket, and ensuring that test cricket is the soul of the game.

13-Year-Old Prodigy: India’s Next PV Sindhu

A new star is rising in the realm of Indian badminton. 13-year-old Tanvi Patri from Odisha has shown great talent which is drawing comparisons with PV Sindhu.  Her brilliance on the court has captivated fans and experts, marking her as the country’s promising young athletes.

Recently, Tanvi showcased a stellar performance in the U-15 badminton Asia Championship held in China. She clinched the girl’s singles title, defeating the second seed from Vietnam. This victory not only highlights her skills but also gives a much-needed boost to Indian badminton following the national team’s challenge at the Paris Olympics.

Tanvi has been training at the prestigious Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore where she has consistently showcased resilience. She has fought back when she trailed to secure a win and throughout the tournament didn’t drop a single game. 

Tanvi’s journey began in China, where her parents introduced her to badminton. Having won 9 titles in China between 2017 and 2020, laid a firm foundation for her future. During Covid-19 they returned to India where Tanvi continued her training and has excelled in the badminton world.

Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy’s director Vimal Kumar, compared Tanvi with PV Sindhu and said that Tanvi reminds him of Sindhu when she was young. He also adds that the ability to win matches at a young age is a good sign and that Tanvi has a long way to go and with her temperament, she has great potential. 

Experts predict that Tanvi could become a formidable contender for the upcoming 2028 and 2032 Olympics as she continues to develop her strength. Even though her journey is just beginning, yet the expectations are high. Tanvi has captured the spotlight and her story is an inspirational story for athletes across the nation.

Manchester United’s Pursuit Of Manuel Ugarte Complete

Recent updates from Manchester United indicates that their pursuit of Manuel Ugarte is complete, meanwhile with a rejected swap deal with Chelsea, Jadon Sancho’s transfer faces complications.

Following Manchester United’s rejection of a proposed swap deal which would have led the fans to see him exchanged for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell, the future of Jadon Sancho’s at United remains uncertain. Manchester United has been aiming to reduce the wage bill to facilitate incoming transfer and hence Sancho has been a point of contention, with the management trying to finalize his exit. Jadon Sancho has been on loan at Borussia Dortmund for most of the second half of the last season and is only interested in sanctioning a permanent move or a loan with an obligation to buy clause.

On a more positive note, it appears that Manchester United are successful in securing the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain at a deal worth £60m including all performance bonus. Ugarte only wanted United and United only wanted him. Ugarte has already accepted personal terms, and both teams have reportedly ironed out the details of this transfer making a deal worth £50.7m (£60m), regarded as a key move to boost the midfield. 

Selling talents like Sancho will help combat financial problems, in addition to squad dynamics. United hopes to free up room by better management of the compensation structure for when future big additions arrive. This news, in the end, points out Manchester United in their current period of change as they work down to putting together a competitive team for the coming campaign while managing the contracts of the current and possible transfers.

HS Prannoy has announced an indefinite break from badminton, due to health problems bothering him all the while, especially his latest health issue after recovering from Chikungunya. This decision came thereafter in a torrid time period, within which he bowed out in the early rounds of the Paris 2024 Olympics with debilitating pain from the long-standing illness.

Prannoy announced his sabbatical as a priority to get himself fit and healthy after claiming to have been troubled by pain and fatigue due to Chikungunya, a mosquito-borne viral disease. The 32-year-old badminton player said this disease altered his performance and also caused him to face a drubbing in the Round of 16 against his fellow Indian player Lakshya Sen in the Olympics, to whom he could give a tough fight only initially during the match.

On August 26, Prannoy took to social media to voice the issues he had been in for Chikungunya: “Unfortunately, the fight with Chikungunya finally caught up on my body, and I am still dealing with frequent pains that make it not possible to compete at the best level”. He made it clear that he had a word with his team and decided to pull out to concentrate on recovery.

Although it is not specified exactly which tournaments Prannoy will miss, one might expect that he is likely to miss big events such as the Hong Kong Open and the China Open before September. His loss in these competitions indeed reflected his health problem on his sports career.

Yet Prannoy has emerged as the spearhead in men’s singles badminton. He has ensured India some big victories on the international arena: first, coming up with a bronze at the 2023 World Badminton Championships and then helping India win the Thomas Cup for the first time in 2022. His decision at this juncture can be termed rational for his long-term health and performance.

Prannoy is grateful to the support he received from his fans at this time and has assured them that he is doing everything to return to the court even stronger. The break might help him in the long run as he tries to get back to his top shape and fight form back again.

The video did not only capture the great winning shot of Samson but also some hilarious moments as a kid in the background shouts, “Good shot bhaiya”. Samson has had a challenging season, who last played competitive cricket during the T20I series against Sri Lanka in July, where he could get off the mark in both his appearances.
