Manchester United has secured their Champions League qualification after an easy win over Chelsea. The Men in Red won the match by a comfortable margin of 4-1 at the Red Devils’ home ground.
Erik ten Hag stuck with the side that beat Bournemouth and took an early lead when Christian Eriksen sent over a free-kick from the left and Casemiro rose high to power a header past statuesque Kepa Arrizabalaga. Further, a brace by Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes sealed the game for the club. Joao Felix scored a stunning long-range goal for the visitors.
Erik ten Hag was very happy with his team’s performance. In a post-match interview, he stated, “I think in this league, that’s a good base to be in the top four but, yeah, we want to compete for the title.” He further said, “The competition is tough, there are many teams with really good squads, good managers, so when you are in there, you did a good job and your team is playing well and performing well and for this moment this is the maximum but we want more.”
With the win, United moved up to third and two points above Newcastle United going into the season finale. Ten Hag’s side who have already lifted the Carabao Cup will be looking to lift the FA Cup. The Red Devils will be facing arch-rivals Manchester City in the final to be played at Wembley on Saturday, June 3rd.
Manchester United are currently third on the Premier League points table. The club has 72 points from 37 games. The Old Trafford-based club has one league game remaining; wherein they will face Fulham in a home game.
