Punjab FC has bolstered its midfield with the acquisition of Argentine playmaker Norberto Ezequiel Vidal, known as Pulga, for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season. The 29-year-old joins as the club’s fifth foreign signing, bringing a wealth of experience and attacking prowess to the Mohali-based outfit.
Pulga made his Indian debut in the Durand Cup 2024, featuring against Mumbai City. While he failed to find the net during the tournament, he netted a crucial goal in the sudden death penalty shootout against Mohun Bagan Super Giants.
Punjab FC’s Technical Director, Nikolaos Topoliatis, hailed Vidal’s arrival, saying, “We are thrilled to have Vidal in our ranks. He is a dynamic player who will inject pace and creativity into our midfield.”
Speaking to HindustanTimes.com, Pulga expressed his excitement about joining Punjab FC and his aspirations for the season. “I’m eager to make my ISL debut and help Punjab reach the playoffs,” he said.
With experience in various leagues across the globe, Pulga believes his adaptability will serve him well in the ISL. “I’ve played in several leagues, and I believe India has a very competitive one,” he said. “I hope to contribute significantly and help the team achieve success.”
As an attacking midfielder and winger, Pulga is known for his ability to create chances and score goals. “I like to receive the ball and drive forward, attacking the opposition,” he explained. “I also enjoy getting into the box and finding the net.”
Pulga acknowledged the differences between playing in Indonesia and India, but expressed his confidence in adapting quickly. “I had a successful stint in Indonesia, and I’m eager to adjust to India as soon as possible,” he said. “I’m excited for the challenge and determined to perform at my best.”
Punjab FC will kick off their ISL 2024-25 campaign on Sunday, October 15, against Kerala Blasters at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium.
