Squash Balls India — The Complete Guide

The squash ball is one of the most misunderstood pieces of equipment in Indian sport. Unlike tennis or badminton where beginners and advanced players use similar balls, squash balls vary enormously in speed and bounce across player levels — and choosing the wrong one is the single most common mistake Indian squash beginners make. This page covers every squash ball available at God of Sports, explains exactly which ball is right for each level, and guides the purchase decision for both individuals and clubs.

God of Sports stocks squash balls from Dunlop (the WSF and PSA official brand) and HEAD, covering all levels from beginner to professional. All dispatched from Mumbai with pan-India delivery. Read our full Squash Ball Buying Guide and Types of Squash Balls guide on Sportopedia for deeper analysis.

The Science of the Squash Ball — Why Dot Colour Matters

A squash ball is a hollow rubber sphere. The rubber’s elasticity — and therefore its bounce — changes with temperature. Cold rubber is stiff and barely bounces. Warm rubber is elastic and bounces properly. This temperature-dependence is intentional engineering: the dot colour system creates balls for different player levels by varying the rubber compound’s thermal response.

Higher-bounce balls (blue, red dot) use rubber compounds that respond strongly at lower temperatures — they bounce well even without much hitting to warm them up. This suits beginners who cannot sustain the rally pace needed to keep a ball warm. Lower-bounce balls (single yellow, double yellow) use stiffer compounds that only deliver their designed bounce after extended sustained hitting — which requires the consistent, fast-hitting style of experienced players. The double yellow dot at full temperature gives the game its distinctive low-bouncing character where every shot must be precise to stay above the tin.

Squash Ball Dot Colour Guide — Choosing by Level

Dot colour Speed Bounce height Warm-up needed Best for
Blue dot Fastest Highest Minimal Absolute beginners, juniors, cold courts, first 3 months of play
Red dot Fast High Minimal–5 min Developing players 3–12 months, academy beginners, recreational
Single yellow dot Medium Medium 5–8 min Intermediate club players 6–18 months, consistent rally ability required
Double yellow dot ← Slowest Lowest 5–10 min sustained Advanced, competitive club, tournament, PSA professional. The standard for Indian club competition

Indian conditions note: India’s ambient warm temperatures mean all squash balls warm up faster than in cold-climate countries. A double yellow dot typically reaches optimal temperature in 5–7 minutes on most Indian courts. In summer months and warmer cities (Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad), warm-up is even faster — approximately 4–6 minutes of sustained hitting is usually sufficient.

HEAD Squash Balls

HEAD supplies two squash ball specifications for different stages of Indian squash development:

HEAD Prime Yellow Dot — Advanced Club

HEAD’s competition-grade ball — double yellow dot equivalent for advanced and competitive club play. Consistent performance, good durability under hard club-level hitting. For players who compete regularly at club or state level and want HEAD quality across their full equipment setup.

Level: Advanced–Competitive | Best for: Club competition, serious training, players at HEAD-dominant clubs

HEAD Tournament Single Yellow Dot — Intermediate

A single yellow dot ball — slightly faster and higher bounce than the double yellow dot, the correct stepping-stone ball for intermediate Indian players who have outgrown red dot but are not yet ready for the sustained hitting pace needed to keep a double yellow dot warm through a full session.

Level: Intermediate (6–18 months) | Best for: Developing consistent length game and rally ability

How Long Does a Squash Ball Last?

A quality squash ball typically lasts 3–6 hours of sustained play before losing its consistent bounce and feel. Signs it needs replacing: irregular bounce on the same shot type, visible cracking in the rubber, the ball no longer reaches optimal warmth even after extended hitting, or a visibly softened feel on impact. For players training 3–4 sessions per week, a pack of 3 typically covers 2–4 weeks.

Buying Guide — By Level

Player profile Ball Why
Absolute beginner (0–3 months) Blue dot ball High bounce requires no warm-up — focuses energy on technique, not chasing a dead ball
Developing beginner (3–12 months) Red dot ball Medium-high bounce, minimal warm-up, forgiving for developing rally consistency
Intermediate (6–18 months), regular sessions HEAD Tournament Single Yellow Dot Correct step up from red dot — develops length game with a more demanding ball
Advanced club player, competitive Dunlop Pro Double Yellow Dot (x3) WSF + PSA official — the ball Indian club competition is played with
Advanced, trains at HEAD-focused club HEAD Prime Yellow Dot Double yellow spec from HEAD — consistent performance at advanced club level
Club / academy stocking up Dunlop Pro Double Yellow Dot (x12) Best-value bulk format — ensures consistent supply for regular sessions
