Madhwal’s deadly bowling powers Mumbai Indians to IPL Qualifier 2
Mumbai Indians have won yet another IPL playoffs match. After qualifying for the knockout stages on the last day, Mumbai Indians have made sure they show what their favourite team is capable of doing. The Men in Blue and Gold defeated Lucknow Super Giants by a massive margin of 81 runs in the Eliminator to qualify for the next stage.
Electing to bat first, Mumbai had a bad start; losing both the openers in the powerplay. However, World Number 1 T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green stitched together a wonderful partnership to steady their ship. But, the ship sunk as Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed both set batters in one over.
Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera then took over the scoring duties and ensured the team gets to a par score. With some intelligent batting, Mumbai Indians reached 182/8 in their 20 overs.
Lucknow never seemed to be in the chase. Mumbai Indians find Akash Madhwal dismantled their batting lineup. The Uttarakhand-based bowler took 5 wickets for just 5 runs. In the process, Madhwal registered the best figures in the IPL playoffs. Also, he registered the joint-first most economical five-for in the Indian Premier League.
With this win, Mumbai Indians will be facing the Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 2. The two teams will be facing each other at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 26th May.
