Courtney Winfield-Hill Joins England Women’s Coaching Staff

Courtney Winfield-Hill, a former dual-sport professional, has been appointed as an assistant coach for the England Women’s cricket team. She will join the squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa and the Women’s Ashes.

Winfield-Hill, 37, has a wealth of experience in both cricket and rugby league. As a player, she represented Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat in cricket, and Leeds Rhinos in rugby league, leading them to a Grand Final and Challenge Cup double in 2019. She also represented England in rugby league at the 2022 World Cup.

In recent years, Winfield-Hill has transitioned into coaching, holding roles with WBBL side Brisbane Heat, Trent Rockets in the Women’s Hundred, and Northern Diamonds. She has also worked as an assistant coach with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League and England Women’s A and U19 squads.

Winfield-Hill’s appointment is seen as a positive step for the England Women’s team, as she brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of knowledge to the coaching staff.

“I am really proud to be a part of the set-up,” Winfield-Hill said. “Since working with England teams, I have been made to feel nothing but welcomed and feel the ECB have invested in developing me as a coach.”

“The development of the domestic game over the last five years has been brilliant to watch and I have taken a lot from recent involvements with the England A, development games and the Ireland tour. South Africa and the Ashes are two exciting series and I am really looking forward to linking up and working with the group.”

Jonathan Finch, Director of England Women’s Cricket, praised Winfield-Hill’s appointment, saying: “Courtney has played such an important role in developing the up-and-coming players on our international pathway and adds tremendous value in any environment she is part of.”

“She will bring a different outlook on the game into the coaching team which will ensure the support we provide to players continually moves forward in what will be an exciting period for the senior team.”

Parthiv Patel Appointed Assistant and Batting Coach of Gujarat Titans

Parthiv Patel Appointed Assistant and Batting Coach of Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans have appointed former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel as their assistant and batting coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Patel brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Titans, having played 17 years of international cricket for India.

As assistant coach, Patel will work closely with head coach Ashish Nehra to provide strategic guidance and support to the team. His insights into batting techniques and strategies will be invaluable in enhancing the players’ skills and performance.

Patel’s appointment is a significant boost for the Titans, who are looking to build on their impressive debut season in the IPL. The franchise reached the playoffs in their first year, and they will be hoping to challenge for the title in 2023.

Patel’s experience as a mentor and talent scout will also be beneficial to the Titans. He has a proven track record of developing young players and helping them reach their full potential.

This is Patel’s first coaching role in the IPL, but he has a strong understanding of the game and the league. He will be a valuable asset to the Titans as they look to make a deep run in the tournament.

Mohammad Salahuddin Returns as Bangladesh Cricket's Senior Assistant Coach

Mohammad Salahuddin Returns as Bangladesh Cricket’s Senior Assistant Coach

Mohammad Salahuddin, a renowned coach with an impressive track record, has been appointed as the senior assistant coach of the Bangladesh cricket team. This marks his second stint with the team, having previously served in the same role from 2006 to 2010. Salahuddin’s appointment, which extends until the Champions Trophy next year, is a testament to his reputation as one of the most successful coaches in the domestic circuit.

Salahuddin, who has led the Comilla Victorians to four BPL titles, has already begun working with the Test cricketers in Dhaka while the team is in Sharjah for the ODIs against Afghanistan. He will accompany the Test players to the Caribbean on Monday.

“I believe this is the right time to work with the Bangladesh team,” Salahuddin said. “I may not be in coaching for much longer, perhaps another four or five years. It would be a privilege to contribute to the development of more generations of cricketers. If I can make a positive impact, it will be worthwhile, regardless of the time I have until the Champions Trophy.”

Salahuddin acknowledged that he has not yet had detailed discussions with head coach Phil Simmons, who was appointed on an interim basis in mid-October following the dismissal of Chandika Hathurusinghe. “My role may be different this time,” Salahuddin said. “I need to understand the head coach’s philosophy and support him. I hope our players can gain more confidence. I will also monitor their communication with the foreign coaches.”

In 2017, Salahuddin was on the verge of being appointed as the team’s batting consultant, but the BCB canceled the appointment at the last minute. This soured relations between Salahuddin and the BCB for several years, and Salahuddin’s outspoken criticism of Bangladesh cricket did not help mend fences.

However, with the recent change in the country’s political regime, the BCB elected Faruque Ahmed as president, who pledged to incorporate a Bangladeshi into the coaching setup. Salahuddin stated that his extensive discussions with Faruque convinced him to reduce his coaching commitments elsewhere.

“I requested some time to settle my commitments,” Salahuddin said. “I have been in talks with Faruque bhai for three months, which gave me time to resolve those commitments.”

Salahuddin has played a significant role in the development of several cricketers, including Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, during his previous stint as assistant coach. He has also contributed to the growth of players like Jaker Ali and Mahidul Islam Ankon, who are now part of the Bangladesh Test team.

Salahuddin urged the media and fans to avoid labeling players as heroes or villains based on their performances. “Players go through a lot to earn their place in the national team,” he said. “Some may take time to succeed in international matches, while others may find success immediately. It’s important to be patient and supportive.”

Matthew Mott Joins Sydney Sixers as Assistant Coach

Matthew Mott Joins Sydney Sixers as Assistant Coach

Matthew Mott, the former head coach of the England Men’s white-ball team, has joined the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL) as an assistant coach on a three-year deal. Mott’s appointment comes after his departure from the England setup following their semi-final exit at the 2023 T20 World Cup.

Mott, who previously coached Australia Women for eight years, will reunite with Greg Shipperd at the Sixers, replacing Cameron White, who was appointed head coach of the Melbourne Renegades earlier this year.

“I’m delighted to join back up with the Sydney Sixers,” Mott said. “Having started my coaching journey in Sydney many years ago, it’s a place that evokes both great memories and a comforting sense of familiarity, which I’m looking forward to.”

Mott’s spell as England’s white-ball coach began with a triumph at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, but ended after a disappointing performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup and a semi-final exit at the 2023 T20 World Cup.

Prior to his time with England, Mott coached the New South Wales men’s side from 2007. His return to the state’s system will see him reunite with Rachael Haynes, who was a key member of the Australia Women’s team he coached to numerous successes.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to have Motty committed for the next three years with the club,” said Haynes, Sixers’ general manager. “When the opportunity arises to bring a coach of Motty’s calibre into your ranks, it’s a no-brainer.”

“His coaching resume speaks for itself. He has an incredible track-record of success around the world, and he’s proven he knows what it takes to build, and sustain, a winning culture.”

In the recent BBL draft, the Sixers retained James Vince and surprised many by selecting Yorkshire legspinner Jafer Chohan as their last pick. They had previously secured West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein.

Lance Klusener Joins Lucknow Super Giants as Assistant Coach for IPL 2024

South African cricket legend Lance Klusener has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The announcement was made by LSG on Friday, adding Klusener to their already formidable coaching staff led by head coach Justin Langer and assistant coach S Sriram.

Klusener brings a wealth of experience to the LSG dugout, having previously served as an assistant coach for the Mumbai Indians under Shaun Pollock in the early years of the IPL. He also has a successful track record as head coach of the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League, guiding them to their maiden CPL title.

Beyond his IPL and CPL stints, Klusener has also held coaching roles with the Afghanistan national team, as well as the South Africa and Zimbabwe batting units. He has also worked in the Indian domestic circuit with Tripura.

During his playing days, Klusener was renowned as one of the finest all-rounders in white-ball cricket. He was a key member of the South African team that reached the semi-finals of the 1999 World Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament. Klusener’s all-round abilities, including his explosive batting and accurate medium-pace bowling, made him a formidable force on the field.

Klusener’s appointment as assistant coach at LSG is expected to further strengthen the team’s coaching setup. His experience and expertise will be invaluable to the players, particularly in the areas of batting and all-round development. LSG will be hoping to build on their impressive performance in the 2023 IPL season, where they reached the playoffs under the guidance of Langer and Sriram.
