Pakistan Captain Shan Masood Dismisses Rift Rumors with Shaheen Shah Afridi

Pakistan cricket captain Shan Masood has vehemently denied rumors of a rift between him and star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi. The speculations arose after Afridi was omitted from the playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh.

The rumors intensified when a video clip from the first Test emerged, showing Afridi seemingly brushing off Masood’s hand from his shoulder. However, Masood has clarified that there was no disagreement between the two.

“There are no issues between us,” Masood said. “Shaheen had his arms around my back, but he politely removed my hand from his shoulder because it was sore after being hit by a ball during our innings.”

Masood also refuted claims that Afridi was dropped for the second Test due to the incident. “We had a good discussion with Shaheen,” Masood explained. “We told him he remains our best bowler and needs to work on finding his best rhythm and form.”

The Pakistan captain also dismissed suggestions that he was concerned about his future as Test captain. “I don’t think about these things,” Masood said. “Being made captain is a privilege, and until I am captain, my only focus is to take the team forward.”

Masood acknowledged the team’s disappointing performance in the Bangladesh series, which they lost 2-0. “Losing to Bangladesh is totally unacceptable for us,” he said. “We need to improve our performance and work hard to regain our winning ways.”

Pakistan's Aamer Jamal Ruled Out of Bangladesh Test Series Due to Back Injury

Pakistan’s Aamer Jamal Ruled Out of Bangladesh Test Series Due to Back Injury

Pakistan’s fast-bowling allrounder Aamer Jamal will miss the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh due to an ongoing back injury, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Monday. Jamal was initially included in the squad with his participation contingent upon fitness clearance. However, his recovery has been slower than anticipated, ruling him out of both Tests.

Jamal, who emerged as Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker during the 2023-24 away series in Australia with 18 scalps in three Tests, has been battling lower back issues since May. The injury hampered his multi-format stint with Warwickshire in England, where he last played competitive cricket in June.

As the lone seam-bowling allrounder in the squad, Jamal’s absence leaves Pakistan with a 14-man roster for the first Test. Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam have also been released to play for the Shaheens. Consequently, Pakistan is likely to field an all-seam attack for the first Test, with Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mir Hamza, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohammad Ali vying for selection.

Jamal will now focus on regaining fitness at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. His aim is to be ready for the Test series against England in October.

Pakistan Cricket Team Reshuffles Batting Order, Babar Azam to Bat at Number Four

Pakistan Cricket Team Reshuffles Batting Order, Babar Azam to Bat at Number Four

Pakistan’s cricket team is undergoing a strategic overhaul ahead of their upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The most notable change is the decision to have captain Babar Azam bat at the unfamiliar number four position. This move is part of a broader tactical adjustment by the team management, which aims to solidify the top order and provide stability to the middle order.

Azam’s usual batting position in limited-overs cricket has been in the top three, but he has experimented with the number four spot in Test cricket before. During Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2022, he batted at number three, and he retained that position for the second Test against England later that year. However, his move to number four for the Bangladesh series suggests a more permanent shift in the team’s long-term strategy.

The decision to move Azam down the order has opened up opportunities for other players. Abdullah Shafiq’s position as opener remains secure, while captain Shan Masood will take on the crucial number three role. This new batting order aims to provide a solid foundation for the team and allow Azam to play a more influential role in the middle order.

The series against Bangladesh also presents an opportunity for new talent to emerge. Batsman Muhammad Huraira is a strong contender for a debut appearance, signalling the team management’s intent to introduce fresh faces into the Test arena.

On the bowling front, Pakistan are expected to capitalize on the anticipated bowler-friendly conditions at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. A three-pronged pace attack comprising Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Mir Hamza is likely to be deployed, with one spinner completing the bowling lineup.

The two-match Test series, commencing on August 21st in Rawalpindi, holds added significance as it marks the first assignment for newly appointed Test coach, Jason Gillespie. Gillespie’s arrival signals a new chapter for Pakistan’s Test cricket, and his guidance will be crucial in shaping the team’s approach against Bangladesh and beyond.

The second Test, scheduled from August 30th to September 3rd in Karachi, will unfortunately be played without spectators due to ongoing renovations at the National Stadium. While the absence of a home crowd might be a slight setback, the team remains focused on delivering a strong performance and securing a series victory against Bangladesh.

Indian Cricket Team to Rest Jasprit Bumrah for Bangladesh Series

Indian Cricket Team to Rest Jasprit Bumrah for Bangladesh Series

After a well-deserved break following the Sri Lanka series, the Indian cricket team will reconvene next month for a two-Test series against Bangladesh. This extended break is a rarity for Indian cricketers, providing much-needed respite after a grueling schedule.

However, according to reports, India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may be rested for the Bangladesh series. The decision stems from the team’s hectic upcoming schedule and the spin-friendly conditions expected in Bangladesh. With Mohammed Shami likely to make a comeback, the BCCI selectors may opt to give Bumrah additional rest.

Bumrah has a history of injury-related breaks, including a stress fracture surgery in March 2023. To ensure his fitness for the upcoming tour of Australia, the selectors may prioritize his recovery.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has shifted one of the opening matches of the Duleep Trophy from Anantapur to Bengaluru to accommodate top players who are likely to feature in the Bangladesh series. Senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma may be exempted from the tournament, while others like Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and KL Rahul are expected to participate partially or fully.

The Duleep Trophy, scheduled to begin on September 5, will provide an opportunity for players to prepare for the Bangladesh series. The two Tests will be played in Chennai (September 19) and Kanpur (September 27).

India’s Test Stalwarts Set to Grace Duleep Trophy in Preparation for Bangladesh Series

In anticipation of India’s upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, the Duleep Trophy, scheduled to commence on September 5 in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, is set to feature a star-studded lineup. India captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli are expected to lead the charge, alongside a host of other prominent players.

The tournament will serve as a crucial platform for the Indian selectors to assess the form and readiness of key players ahead of the Bangladesh series. The Indian Express reports that the Duleep Trophy will showcase the talents of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav.

However, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah will not participate in the Duleep Trophy due to an extended rest period. The senior selection committee will deliberate on Bumrah’s availability for the two-Test series against Bangladesh.

With India facing a demanding schedule of 10 Test matches over the next four months, including five against Australia, the Duleep Trophy will provide invaluable match practice for the players. The tournament will run from September 5 to September 24, offering ample opportunity for the players to showcase their skills and prepare for the challenges ahead.

The inclusion of top players is expected to enhance the competitiveness and appeal of the Duleep Trophy. The tournament will provide a glimpse of India’s Test team in the making, as the players strive to prove their worth and secure their place in the squad for the Bangladesh series.

The first Test between India and Bangladesh will commence in Chennai on September 19. The Duleep Trophy will serve as a crucial stepping stone for the Indian team as they gear up for this important series.

Naseem Shah Returns, Saud Shakeel Named Vice-Captain for Pakistan's Bangladesh Tests

Naseem Shah Returns, Saud Shakeel Named Vice-Captain for Pakistan’s Bangladesh Tests

Pakistan’s Test squad has undergone significant changes for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh, with the return of fast bowler Naseem Shah and the appointment of Saud Shakeel as vice-captain.

Shah, who last played a Test in July 2021, has been recalled after impressing in domestic cricket. He joins a bowling attack that includes Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Ali, and Abrar Ahmed.

Shakeel, a middle-order batter, has been rewarded for his consistent performances with the vice-captaincy. He takes over from Afridi, who is currently injured.

The squad also features several new faces, including batter Kamran Ghulam, fast bowler Mohammad Ali, and batter Muhammad Hurraira. These players have earned their call-ups based on their strong showings in domestic cricket.

However, the squad has also seen some notable omissions. Imam-ul-Haq, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Noman Ali, and Sajid Khan have all been dropped, while Hasan Ali and Mohammad Wasim are injured.

The Pakistan squad will begin training in Rawalpindi on August 11 under head coach Jason Gillespie and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood. Bangladesh will arrive in Islamabad on August 17.

The two Tests, part of the World Test Championship, will be played from August 21 to 25 in Rawalpindi and August 30 to September 3 in Karachi.

The appointment of Shakeel as vice-captain is part of a strategic decision by the selectors to manage Afridi’s workload. Afridi is expected to play a key role in Pakistan’s upcoming T20 World Cup campaign.

Mohammed Shami Targets Return for Bangladesh Test After Resuming Bowling Practice

Mohammed Shami Targets Return for Bangladesh Test After Resuming Bowling Practice

Mohammed Shami, India’s premier fast bowler, is on the road to recovery from an ankle injury that has kept him out of competitive cricket since the ODI World Cup 2023. The 33-year-old pacer has undergone surgery for Achilles tendon and has recently resumed bowling practice.

Shami’s return to fitness is a significant boost for Team India, who are preparing for a busy schedule of white-ball and Test matches. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar has confirmed that Shami has started bowling and is targeting a return to the Indian team for the first Test against Bangladesh on September 19.

“We more or less know who the guys are, there are some injuries at the moment and hope they will be back. Shami has started to bowl, which is a good sign. September 19 is the first Test (against Bangladesh) and that was always the goal. I don’t know if that is his timeline for recovery, will have to ask the guys at the NCA about that,” Agarkar said in a press conference.

Agarkar also emphasized the importance of building depth in the Test team, especially with the upcoming series against Bangladesh and Australia. “There are so many Tests coming. We will need some depth. Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj have been around for a while, these are the obvious ones. But there will be some conversation around it. Got a lot of first-class cricket coming up so we can build guys up like that,” he said.

Shami’s return will provide a much-needed boost to India’s bowling attack, which has been weakened by injuries to Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The pacer’s ability to swing the ball both ways and generate pace will be crucial for India’s success in the upcoming Test series.

Indian Women's Cricket Team Aims for Composure in T20 World Cup

Indian Women’s Cricket Team Aims for Composure in T20 World Cup

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, has expressed her desire to maintain the composure displayed by her team during their recent 5-0 series sweep against Bangladesh in Sylhet when they return for the T20 World Cup in October.

Unlike their previous encounter in Bangladesh in July 2023, which was marred by controversy, India’s recent performance was marked by several positives. “The calmness all the players showed in the series is something I would like to take to the World Cup,” Harmanpreet said after their 21-run victory in the fifth T20I.

Harmanpreet’s return to form was a significant highlight of the series. After struggling with low scores in the white-ball series against Australia, she scored 30 or more in three out of four innings against Bangladesh. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana also contributed with multiple 30-plus scores.

D Hemalatha, who returned to the team after 15 months, showcased her power-hitting abilities at No. 3, a position previously occupied by Jemimah Rodrigues. With the ball, Radha Yadav emerged as a standout performer, claiming ten wickets in five matches and earning the Player of the Series award.

Deepti Sharma’s experience proved valuable in containing the opposition, while Shreyanka Patil and Asha Sobhana also made significant contributions. Harmanpreet attributed their success to the confidence and momentum gained during the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

“The WPL gave our players a lot of confidence,” she said. “We improved our game during that time, and those results are showing here.”

India’s next assignment will be a multi-format series against South Africa at home in June-July, followed by the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the T20 World Cup in October. Harmanpreet expressed her hope that India will be able to play their best cricket when they return to Sylhet for the World Cup opener against New Zealand.

“This tournament will give us a lot of confidence,” she said. “Whatever we learnt here, we can take that to the World Cup. We are really working hard on that. Hopefully, in the World Cup, we will be able to do whatever we can do. I know our team has that much potential and hopefully, we play our best cricket.”
