Baroda Cricket Association Honors Departed Captains at New Stadium Inauguration
The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) recently inaugurated its new home venue, the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium, with a poignant tribute to four of its former captains who passed away in recent years. The families of D.K. Gaekwad, Aunshuman Gaekwad, Narayan Satham, and Cecil Williams were honored with mementos and invited to plant saplings in the stadium’s premises.
BCA President Pranav Amin expressed the significance of the gesture, stating that it was an attempt to acknowledge the contributions of these stalwarts while ensuring their legacy would continue to inspire future generations of Baroda cricketers. The function was held just before the start of Baroda’s Ranji Trophy opener against Mumbai, with both teams and match officials in attendance.
D.K. Gaekwad, a former India captain, passed away in February 2024. His son, Aunshuman Gaekwad, a former India batter and coach, followed in his footsteps in July 2024. Narayan Satham, a former Baroda captain, passed away in February 2022, while Cecil Williams, a former Baroda and Railways coach, passed away in April 2021.
The BCA’s tribute to these legends serves as a reminder of the rich history and tradition of Baroda cricket. The new stadium, which is nearing completion, is a testament to the association’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for its players and fans. The saplings planted in their memory will symbolize the growth and flourishing of Baroda cricket in the years to come.
