Tennis Community Rallies to Support Hurricane Helene Victims

The tennis community has rallied to support victims of Hurricane Helene, which devastated western North Carolina in September. Tennis Channel anchor and commentator Brett Haber led relief efforts, coordinating the collection of essential supplies and personally delivering them to the hard-hit town of Rutherfordton.

Haber’s efforts were inspired by the resilience and compassion displayed by the local community. “I was in awe of the people of western North Carolina and their capacity for selflessness and love in the face of tragedy,” he wrote on social media.

The storm claimed over 115 lives in North Carolina alone, with hundreds still missing. Haber’s mission was to provide tangible assistance and offer a message of hope to those affected.

“My day was with the people of Rutherfordton, N.C.—but it’s happening in dozens of communities around the state—and it embodies everything our country aspires to,” he wrote. “Thank you for the work you’re doing, for the compassion you’re demonstrating, for the warm welcome, for the beautiful thank you card, and for the lesson in what community truly means.”

Haber’s efforts were supported by Tennis Channel viewers and beyond, who generously donated supplies. “We packed the plane to the absolute gills—and your gracious kindness is now on the ground, in trucks, and headed to those in need,” he said.

US Open finalist Jessica Pegula, who has ties to the affected area, also used her platform to raise awareness and support relief efforts. She shared resources and encouraged her followers to contribute to the recovery process.

The tennis community’s response to Hurricane Helene is a testament to the power of sports to unite people and make a positive impact. Haber’s leadership and the generosity of the tennis community have brought much-needed aid and comfort to those in need.
