Nick Kyrgios to Make Comeback at Brisbane International
Nick Kyrgios, the enigmatic Australian tennis star, is set to make a highly anticipated return to competitive tennis at the Brisbane International, which begins on December 29. This marks a significant milestone for Kyrgios, who has been sidelined with a series of injuries since the 2022 US Open quarterfinals.
Kyrgios, currently unranked, has been plagued by career-threatening wrist and knee injuries. After reaching the Wimbledon final in 2022, he was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open in 2023 due to a knee injury that required surgery. He also had to pull out of the French Open later that year with a foot issue.
However, Kyrgios is now feeling optimistic about his recovery. “Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years,” he told a Melbourne television station. “I played that amazing year in 2022. Then at the finals in Wimbledon and U.S. Open, that’s when I started feeling some issues in my wrist. I had that wrist reconstruction and now I’m feeling amazing.”
Kyrgios’ return to competitive tennis will begin at the World Tennis League exhibition event in Abu Dhabi from December 19-22. The mixed team event will feature a star-studded lineup, including Iga Swiatek, Casper Ruud, Aryna Sabalenka, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev.
Kyrgios is also planning to compete in the 2025 Australian Open in Melbourne. The 29-year-old has won seven titles on the ATP Tour and reached a career-high ranking of 13th in the world. His return to the court is eagerly anticipated by fans and tennis enthusiasts alike.
