Novak Djokovic Completes Career Golden Slam with Olympic Gold
Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis legend, received a hero’s welcome in Belgrade after his historic triumph at the Paris Olympics. Djokovic, who has now completed a Career Golden Slam in singles, was among the athletes celebrated at City Hall for their Olympic achievements.
Djokovic’s victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the Olympic final was a culmination of a lifelong dream. “For me, this is the realization of a boyhood dream,” Djokovic said. “The pressure to win the gold was huge because I won more or less everything. I feel fulfilled, complete, let’s celebrate!”
The 37-year-old Djokovic is now the fifth tennis player to complete a Career Golden Slam, which includes winning all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal. He is also the first Serbian to achieve this feat.
Djokovic’s Olympic triumph was not the only highlight for Serbia at the Paris Games. The Nikola Jaksic-led men’s water polo team won their third consecutive gold medal, while mixed 10m air pistol Olympic champions Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec, taekwondo silver medalist Aleksandra Perisic, and the bronze medal-winning men’s basketball squad, featuring NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, also contributed to Serbia’s success.
Djokovic’s focus now shifts to the US Open, where he will aim to win his 25th Grand Slam title and extend his record as the most successful male tennis player in history. “I’ll try to make it to Los Angeles,” Djokovic said about the 2028 Olympics. “I’d like to. The greatest pleasure is representing Serbia at the Olympic Games.”
