Marlins Sweep Rockies with Sánchez’s Walk-Off Hit in 10th

The Miami Marlins secured a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies in the bottom of the 10th inning on Thursday, completing a three-game sweep. Jesús Sánchez emerged as the hero, delivering a game-winning single that drove in Luis Arraez from second base.

The Marlins’ triumph was their second in extra innings during the series, having previously prevailed 7-6 in the opener. Sánchez’s clutch hit came off reliever Jalen Beeks, who had entered the game in the 10th.

Miami’s offense was led by Arraez, who collected two hits, and Josh Bell, who homered in the third inning. Edward Cabrera started for the Marlins and struck out 16 batters in 4 2/3 innings, but was lifted after loading the bases with walks in the fifth.

The Rockies, meanwhile, suffered their fifth consecutive loss and became the first team since 1900 to have trailed at some point in each of their first 31 games. Jacob Stallings provided the early offense for Colorado with a three-run homer in the second inning, but the Marlins responded with a solo blast from Bell in the third.

In the fifth inning, the Rockies tied the game at 4-4 on a double play groundout by Ezequiel Tovar. However, Sánchez’s heroics in the 10th ultimately sealed the victory for Miami.

Marlins Overcome Five-Run Deficit, End Rockies’ Historic Losing Streak

The Miami Marlins staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Colorado Rockies 7-6 in 10 innings on Tuesday night, making the Rockies the first team since 1900 to trail in each of their first 29 games.

Trailing 5-0 after the first inning, the Marlins rallied with five runs in the ninth to tie the game. In the 10th, Ryan McMahon gave the Rockies a 6-5 lead, but the Marlins responded with two runs to secure the victory.

Dane Myers drove in the game-winning run with a single to right field, scoring Bryan De La Cruz. The throw home was off-target, allowing De La Cruz to slide in safely.

The Rockies’ historic losing streak continued, as they became the second team in MLB history to trail in each of their first 29 games. The only other team to accomplish this feat was the 1910 St. Louis Browns.

Despite the early deficit, the Marlins never gave up. They chipped away at the Rockies’ lead, scoring two runs in the third and one in the fifth. In the ninth, they loaded the bases with no outs and forced in three runs to tie the game.

The Marlins’ bullpen played a crucial role in the victory. Tanner Scott allowed McMahon’s RBI double in the 10th, but Jalen Beeks gave up the game-winning hit to Myers.

Jordan Beck, a 23-year-old outfield prospect, made his major league debut for the Marlins and went 2 for 4 with a single in his first at-bat.

The Marlins snapped a seven-game losing streak with the victory, while the Rockies extended their losing streak to 10 games.

Dylan Cease Dominates, Padres Edge Rockies 3-1

Dylan Cease Dominates, Padres Edge Rockies 3-1

Dylan Cease’s dominant performance on the mound and Tyler Wade’s clutch hit in the eighth inning propelled the San Diego Padres to a 3-1 victory over the struggling Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

Cease, acquired from the Chicago White Sox in a March trade, showcased his exceptional pitching skills, allowing only one hit in seven innings. He struck out eight batters and walked none, lowering his ERA to an impressive 1.82. This outing marked his best performance in his six major league seasons.

The Padres took the lead in the third inning when Jurickson Profar, a former Rockies player, drove in a run with a two-out single. However, the Rockies responded in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Ryan McMahon, tying the game at 1-1.

The game remained deadlocked until the eighth inning when the Padres broke the tie. Luis Campusano doubled with two outs and scored on Wade’s single to right field. Wade then advanced to second on the throw home and scored on Jackson Merrill’s single, giving the Padres a 3-1 lead.

Robert Suarez closed out the game for the Padres, getting McMahon to ground into a game-ending double play in the ninth inning. The victory marked the Padres’ 10th win in the past 12 meetings against the Rockies.

Meanwhile, the Rockies extended their losing streak to eight games and dropped to 5-18, the worst record in the National League. They have trailed in each of their 23 games this season, becoming the first team since the 1931 Cincinnati Reds to hold that dubious distinction.

Diamondbacks Crush Rockies with Record-Breaking 14-Run Inning

Diamondbacks Crush Rockies with Record-Breaking 14-Run Inning

The Arizona Diamondbacks made a resounding statement on opening day, obliterating the Colorado Rockies 16-1 in a historic offensive outburst. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. led the charge with five RBIs and three hits, including a two-run homer.

The Diamondbacks’ 14-run third inning was a franchise record and the most in an opening day inning for any team since 1900. Arizona sent 18 batters to the plate, collecting 13 hits, two walks, and a sacrifice fly. Remarkably, they did not hit a single home run during the inning.

Ketel Marte, Gurriel, Christian Walker, Gabriel Moreno, and Geraldo Perdomo all contributed with multiple hits. Corbin Carroll drew two walks, while Blaze Alexander notched his first major league hit with a single that drove in the 14th run.

The offensive explosion broke franchise records for most hits, runs, and batters in a single inning. It took the Rockies 34 minutes to record three outs.

Arizona ace Zac Gallen pitched five solid innings, allowing only one run on three hits. He was aided by stellar defensive plays from third baseman Eugenio Suarez and center fielder Alek Thomas, who snuffed out potential scoring opportunities for the Rockies.

Colorado’s Kyle Freeland bore the brunt of the damage in the third inning, surrendering 10 earned runs on 10 hits and a walk in just 2 1/3 innings. It was Freeland’s third opening day start for the Rockies, tying him with Germán Márquez for the most in franchise history.

Ryan McMahon provided some offense for the Rockies with two hits, including an RBI double in the second inning.

The Diamondbacks’ victory was a resounding start to their title defense, while the Rockies will look to regroup and avoid a similar fate in their next outing.
