Darren Lehmann Appointed Northamptonshire Head Coach

Northamptonshire County Cricket Club has appointed former Australian coach Darren Lehmann as their new head coach on a two-year contract. Lehmann, 54, will take over from John Sadler, who departed in September after the team’s Vitality Blast quarter-final defeat.

Lehmann, a highly experienced coach, has a proven track record of success. He guided Australia to victory in the 2013-14 Ashes series and led Brisbane Heat to the Big Bash League title in 2012-13. He also served as assistant coach for Brisbane Heat’s recent BBL triumph.

Lehmann’s appointment is a significant coup for Northamptonshire, who finished fourth in Division Two of the County Championship last season. The club is eager to return to Division One and challenge for major honors.

Lehmann’s coaching philosophy emphasizes player development and creating a positive team environment. He believes in fostering a culture of hard work, dedication, and accountability.

“Northamptonshire has a great history in our game, and I am looking forward to meeting the players and learning about the club and its past,” Lehmann said. “The selling point for me is a group that wants to get better and follow their and the club’s dreams, create memories, and play at the highest level possible.”

Lehmann’s arrival is expected to boost Northamptonshire’s chances of success. His experience and expertise will be invaluable as the team looks to improve its performances and achieve its goals.

Darren Lehmann Resigns from Coaching Roles for ABC Commentary Gig

Darren Lehmann, the former head coach of the Australian cricket team, has stepped down from his assistant coaching roles with the Brisbane Heat and Queensland men’s team to pursue a full-time radio commentary position with ABC Sport.

Lehmann, 54, had a year remaining on his contract with the Heat and Queensland, having played a key role in the Heat’s BBL title victory last season. He was set to continue under new head coach Johan Botha, but has opted to leave on the eve of the 2024-25 season to join ABC Sport’s commentary team.

The move marks a potential end to Lehmann’s coaching career, as he had previously applied for the head coaching positions at the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades, but was unsuccessful.

“I’ve had a great time over the journey, with so many fond memories from that time,” Lehmann said. “I wish nothing but the best for the future for all at QC and the Heat and thank each and every member of staff and the playing group for making my time at QC so enjoyable and fulfilling.”

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson praised Lehmann’s contributions to Queensland cricket. “Throughout his long involvement with us, Darren has been a positive and proactive influence on cricket in the state,” Svenson said. “Being part of the group that won the BBL last summer is a fitting way to farewell him.”

Andy Bichel will be the only remaining member of the coaching panel at both Queensland and Heat as a new era begins under Botha and general manager of high performance Joe Dawes.
