Rishabh Pant's Fearless Return Impresses Adam Gilchrist

Controversies surrounding Rishabh Pant and how he has handled them

There are very few athletes in the world who are barely hated by any fanbase. For example, you can pick Luka Modric of Real Madrid. Even though he plays for their biggest rivals, Barcelona fans still show an iota of respect for the legendary Croatian. The same can be said about Kane Williamson of New Zealand or South Africa’s AB de Villiers. In India, the fans are more devoted to their players than their team. Be it the IPL or India’s one-off matches, you can witness Indian fan wars while defending their favourite players. While doing so, the fans never hesitate to disrespect a legend from their own country.

However, it’s not the same case with Rishabh Pant. The Southpaw is not only a fan’s favorite but he is even loved by rival teams and fans. He is a superstar and a very likeable cricketer. But that doesn’t mean Rishabh has stayed away from controversies. The 27-year-old has had a fair share of ups and downs in his illustrious career so far. Let’s have a look at it.

Biggest controversies against Rishabh Pant and how he handled them

No-ball incident vs Rajasthan Royals, 2022

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant and assistant coach Pravin Amre faced disciplinary action following their team’s loss to Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022. Pant and Amre were fined their entire match fees, while Amre also received a one-match suspension. Additionally, Capitals’ bowler Shardul Thakur was fined 50% of his match fee for violating the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct. Pant admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction, while Thakur admitted to a Level 2 offence under Article 2.8. Amre admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.2.

Aakash Chopra Advises Delhi Capitals to Retain Pant, Axar as Top Priorities

The Delhi Capitals-Rajasthan Royals match ended in controversy. In the final over, a high full-toss from Obed McCoy was hit for six by Rovman Powell. The Capitals expected a no-ball call for height, but none was given. Powell and Kuldeep questioned umpires Nitin Menon and Nikhil Patwardhan. Captain Rishabh Pant and the Capitals dugout protested vigorously, despite rules prohibiting no-ball referrals without a wicket review. Assistant coach Pravin Amre intervened, while Shane Watson attempted to calm Pant. Jos Buttler, Rajasthan’s century-scorer, confronted Pant, expressing dismay. Rajasthan ended up winning by 15 runs.

Rishabh Pant was highly criticized for his aggressive approach on the pitch. England’s legend Kevin Pietersen called out Pant for his behaviour and termed it as “unacceptable”. While speaking about the incident, Pietersen said “Jos Butter had every right to walk over to Rishabh Pant and say: “What on earth were you doing?”. Rishabh Pant was calling them off, the guy wanted to walk off. For me that was unacceptable, and I hope I never see that again in the game of cricket because that is not why we play cricket and that is not how you are supposed to play cricket.”

However, Pant also had a lot to talk about the incident as he dealt with it in his own way. “I thought the no ball could have been precious for us. I thought we could have checked that no ball, but it’s not in my control. “Yes, disappointed, but can’t do much about it. Everyone was frustrated because it was not even close, so I thought it was only a no-ball. Everyone in the ground saw that,” Pant said. “I think the third umpire should have intervened in between and said it was a no-ball, but I can’t change the rule myself I guess” Pant added.

Rishabh Pant’s Drink and Drive Controversy, 2022

The entire country was at a standstill when we heard the dreadful news of Rishabh Pant’s life-threatening car accident in 2022. There was not a single soul in India who didn’t pray for the youngster’s timely recovery. By god’s grace, Rishabh Pant did recover fully and is back playing for Team India. However, many controversies claimed that Rishabh Pant was under the influence of alcohol while driving his car on 30th December 2022.

Rumours circulated alleging Rishabh Pant was intoxicated and speeding before his car accident. A resurfaced 3-year-old video conversation with Shikhar Dhawan seemingly suggested a history of Pant’s rash driving. However, CCTV footage appeared to show the vehicle hitting a road divider at high speed. Contrary to these claims, the Uttarakhand Police’s preliminary investigation found no evidence of overspeeding or intoxication.

Urvashi Rautela vs Rishabh Pant

We all remember the drama surrounding Rishabh Pant and Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela. Rishabh Pant was rumoured to be dating Rautela in 2018, the actress’s frequent appearances in Indian games made the speculations a pretty strong one. However, Rishabh Pant has frequently denied any such relation with the model-turned-actress. Recently, Urvashi Rautela also claimed that she never went out with the Indian superstar.

Let us break down to you what happened during the entire controversy

In 2018, Urvashi Rautela and Rishabh Pant reportedly met at a hotel in Mumbai, sparking rumours of a potential relationship. Many media outlets claimed they were introduced by common friends. Urvashi Rautela, 24 at the time, was already an established actress, while Rishabh Pant, 20, was rising through cricket ranks.

In an interview in the year 2019, Urvashi Rautela mentioned “RP” when asked about her “favourite cricketer,” leading to speculation. She also praised Rishabh Pant’s cricket skills and personality. Media started linking them romantically, citing frequent meetings and social media interactions.

Rishabh Pant unfollowed Urvashi Rautela on social media, fueling breakup rumours in 2020. Urvashi Rautela removed Rishabh Pant’s name from her Instagram bio. Sources close to Rishabh Pant went ahead and denied any romantic involvement.

However, in the year 2022, Urvashi Rautela shared an Instagram story mentioning “Mr. RP” and “couple goals,” reigniting speculation. Rishabh Pant’s car was spotted outside Urvashi Rautela’s residence, further fueling rumours. Urvashi Rautela claimed they were “just friends.”

When the rumours started getting stronger, Rishabh Pant said, “I’m focused on cricket, not controversies.” Urvashi Rautela claimed that they were just friends and nothing else. However, the media still speculated that something was cooking between the two celebrities.

Jadeja’s knack for providing breakthroughs with his spin and his ability to contribute with the bat make this comparison suitable.

Ishan Kishan as Ant-man aka Scott Lang

IPL X Avengers Ishan Kishan as Ant-man aka Scott Lang

Ishan Kishan, fondly called “Pocket Dynamo” is a living example of Ant-man aka Scott Lang. Kishan’s ability to pack a punch despite his small stature and his knack for surprising opponents with his explosive hitting are akin to Ant-Man’s ability to shrink and still pack a powerful punch. Kishan’s versatility with both batting and wicketkeeping, just like Ant-Man’s ability to switch between sizes, makes this comparison interesting.

Virat Kohli in RCB Jersey

Virat Kohli’s masterful ton goes in vain as RCB gets knocked out of IPL

After smashing a wonderful century against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Virat Kohli scored another magnificent ton in a do-or-die encounter with the 2022 IPL champions Gujarat Titans. The Team India batter scored 101 runs in just 61 balls, but couldn’t take his team past the finish line courtesy Shubman Gill.

After being put into bat, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a great start. The opening duo of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli put on 67 runs in just 7 overs. However, the Men in Red couldn’t quite continue their momentum as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Kohli, the man for big matches had other plans. The right-hander went hammer and tongs from one end as he got good support from lower-order batsmen including Michael Bracewell and Anuj Rawat. With their help, Kohli took the team total to 197. Virat Kohli, who batted till the end, smashed 13 boundaries and one maximum.

Coming to the chase, Gujarat made sure they never got behind the required run rate. Shubman Gill, who is in a purple patch, was the hero of the chase. The young batsman smashed 104 runs in just 52 balls to take his team to victory. Gill, paced his innings to perfection to knock out Royal Challengers Bangalore out of the Indian Premier League.

In the post-match presentation, Faf du Plessis, skipper of RCB, was all praise for his teammate; Virat Kohli. He said, ” It was wet in the first innings as well, but there wasn’t a lot of grip in the second innings and also we had to change the ball quite a few times during the second innings. Virat played an unbelievable knock to give us a chance and thought that was a good score, but Shubman played incredibly well to take the game away from us.”

With Royal Challengers Bangalore not able to win this do-or-die encounter, it is the Mumbai Indians who took the final playoff spot. Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, the table toppers respectively will be facing each other in Qualifier 1 which will be played on 23rd May at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While Lucknow Super Giants will be facing the 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator scheduled to be played on 24th May at the same ground.

Yashasvi Jaiswal slams the fastest fifty of IPL

Yashasvi Jaiswal slams the fastest fifty of IPL

Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored the fastest fifty in the Indian Premier League. In their league match against Kolkata Knight Riders, the left-hander slammed a magnificent half-century off just 13 balls.

Jaiswal went after the Kolkata Knight Riders bowling, scoring across the ground; breaking the joint record of KL Rahul and Pat Cummins who slammed 14-ball fifties.

SS Ton Cricket Bat

This is always in my mind, to go out there and play well. It was a nice feeling today. It is not like everything I wanted happens, I prepare well and I trust in myself. I know the results will come,” said Jaiswal at the post-match presentation. Jaiswal, who started tonking the ball from the very first ball made an unbeaten 98 runs off 47 balls.

Jaiswal’s smashing half-century was the second-fastest in the T20 format. The record for the fastest half-century belongs to Indian southpaw Yuvraj Singh. Back in the T20 World Cup 2007, Yuvraj had slammed a 12-ball half-century against England. The famous match saw Yuvraj score six successive sixes off the bowling of Stuart Broad. Additionally, Chris Gayle, Hazratullah Zazai, Wayne White and Kaushalya Weeraratne have also slammed 12-ball fifties.

Jaiswal is in amazing touch this season. The left-hander has amassed 575 runs in just 12 innings at an average of 57.60 and a fantastic strike rate of 157.81. Currently, he is just second to Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis in the race for Purple Cap.

Famous IPL cricketers who haven’t represented India in T20Is

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a breeding ground for some of the world’s best T20 cricketers over the years. While many players have gone on to represent their countries in T20Is after making a mark in the IPL, there are a few who have been unlucky in that regard.

Over the years, the IPL has produced a plethora of talented cricketers who have gone on to represent their countries in T20Is. However, there are still a few players who have not been able to break into the Indian T20I team, despite their consistent performances in the league.

These players have proven their worth time and again in the IPL, with some of them even becoming fan favorites due to their match-winning performances. Despite their popularity and success in the IPL, they continue to wait for their chance to represent India in the shortest format of the game. In this article, we will shed light on some of these players and take a look at their performances in the IPL.

The IPL has undoubtedly become one of the most prestigious T20 leagues in the world, attracting some of the biggest names in cricket from across the globe. With intense competition and high stakes, the league has served as an excellent platform for young and talented cricketers to showcase their skills and make a name for themselves. However, despite their outstanding performances in the IPL, there are a few Indian cricketers who are yet to receive their call-up to the national T20I team.

The reasons behind their exclusion from the national team could vary, ranging from a highly competitive selection process to the presence of established players on the team. Nevertheless, the IPL has played a significant role in shaping the careers of these cricketers and has helped them gain recognition as some of the best T20 players in the country. In this article, we will take a look at six famous IPL cricketers who have not yet represented India in T20Is, despite their impressive performances in the league.

Famous IPL cricketers who haven’t represented India in T20Is

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the current holder of the Orange Cap in IPL 2023, is a promising young talent in Indian cricket who has been making waves with his impressive performances. At just 21 years old, he has already established himself as one of the top players in the tournament and has the potential to represent India at the highest level in the future. With his aggressive style of play, Jaiswal could be a perfect replacement for Rohit Sharma in the T20I circuit and form a formidable opening partnership with Shubman Gill.

In the ongoing IPL 2023, Jaiswal has been in sensational form, becoming the fourth youngest player to score a century in the tournament during Rajasthan Royals’ match against Mumbai Indians. He has scored a total of 428 runs in just nine games at an impressive average of 47.55 and a blistering strike rate of 159.70. With such consistent performances, Jaiswal has certainly made a strong case for a call-up to the Indian team and could be a valuable addition to the national squad in the future.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s journey in cricket is truly an inspiration for everyone, especially those coming from modest backgrounds. His rise to become one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket is a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and dedication to the game.

Jaiswal’s story is one of struggle, as he had to overcome numerous challenges to make his mark in the world of cricket. He had to endure the hardships of living on the streets of Mumbai, where he sold panipuri to make ends meet. Despite the difficult circumstances, he never gave up on his dreams of playing cricket at the highest level. Jaiswal’s talent was evident from an early age, and he honed his skills by practicing in the local grounds of Mumbai. He went on to play for various clubs and teams in the city, and his consistent performances caught the attention of the selectors.

His breakthrough came in the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored 564 runs in just six matches, including a double century. His performances in the tournament earned him a place in the Rajasthan Royals squad for IPL 2020. In his debut IPL season, Jaiswal showed glimpses of his talent, and in the current season of IPL 2023, he has been a revelation, showcasing his full range of skills with the bat.

Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal is a prolific Indian opener who has had a successful career in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been a consistent performer for his IPL franchise and has even been a part of the Indian T20 squad in the past, but has not yet played a T20I for India.

There could be various reasons behind Agarwal not being able to make his T20I debut for India. One reason could be the intense competition for a place in the Indian T20 squad, with several established and talented players vying for a spot in the team. India has a wealth of top-order batting talent, which means that Agarwal has to compete with the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Shikhar Dhawan for a place in the team.

IPL 2023: Mayank Agarwal excited about the prospect of playing for a new franchise in IPL 16

Another reason could be Agarwal’s style of play, which may not be ideally suited for T20 cricket. While he is a technically sound batsman and a good striker of the ball, his strike rate in T20s has been slightly lower than some of his counterparts. Additionally, Agarwal has not been a regular feature in domestic T20 leagues outside the IPL, which may have hindered his chances of being selected for the national T20 squad.

Despite his absence from the national T20 team, Agarwal remains a valuable asset to his IPL franchise and has been a consistent performer in the league. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to break into the Indian T20I team in the future, but his impressive performances in domestic cricket and the IPL suggest that he could be a valuable addition to the team.

Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh’s extraordinary performance in the IPL 2023 has established him as one of the most valuable players for KKR. His remarkable hitting ability and consistent form have played a pivotal role in KKR’s success this season.

His sensational knock of five consecutive sixes off Yash Dayal in the last over to win the match for KKR against GT will be remembered as one of the greatest moments in IPL history. This feat has cemented Rinku Singh’s place in the pantheon of IPL legends, and his name will be remembered for years to come.

Rinku Singh’s outstanding numbers in the current season are a testament to his skill and tenacity. He has already scored 270 runs in just nine innings, with an impressive average of 54.00 and a phenomenal strike rate of 151.69. His ability to find gaps and hit boundaries with ease has made him a force to be reckoned with, and he has been a crucial cog in KKR’s batting lineup.

As the IPL 2023 season progresses, Rinku Singh will undoubtedly continue to be a key player for KKR. His consistency and big-hitting ability make him a nightmare for opposing bowlers, and he will be looking to guide KKR to their third IPL title. The future looks bright for Rinku Singh, and his performances will undoubtedly create room for him in the Indian setup soon.

Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly is a former Indian cricket captain and one of the most successful opening batsmen in Indian cricket history. He is credited with transforming the Indian cricket team as captain, leading them to several notable victories at home and abroad. Despite his immense contributions to Indian cricket, Ganguly never played a T20I for India.

One of the main reasons for Ganguly’s absence from the Indian T20I team is the timing of his retirement from international cricket. T20 cricket became popular only towards the end of his career, and he announced his retirement from international cricket in 2008, just before the inaugural T20 World Cup. Additionally, Ganguly’s style of play was better suited for the longer formats of the game, and he was known for his patience and ability to build innings.

Another reason for Ganguly’s absence from the Indian T20I team could be the presence of other established and talented players. When T20 cricket gained popularity in India, India had a strong pool of players to choose from, and Ganguly had to compete with younger and more agile players for a place in the team. Additionally, the selectors may have opted for players better suited to the demands of the T20 format, such as explosive batsmen and agile fielders.

Despite not playing T20Is for India, Ganguly’s contributions to Indian cricket remain unparalleled, and he is regarded as one of the greatest captains in Indian cricket history. His aggressive leadership style and astute cricketing mind have inspired a generation of cricketers and laid the foundation for India’s success in the 21st century.

Wriddhiman Saha

Wriddhiman Saha is a highly skilled Indian wicketkeeper-batsman who has represented India in Test and ODI cricket. However, he has not played a T20I for India despite his impressive performances in domestic T20 cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

One reason for Saha’s absence from the Indian T20I team could be the strong competition for a place in the team. India has a wealth of top-order batting talent, and with the likes of Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant vying for the wicketkeeper-batsman spot in the team, Saha has found it challenging to break into the T20I squad.

Another reason could be Saha’s style of play, which may not be ideally suited for the demands of T20 cricket. Saha is known for his solid technique and patient approach, which is better suited for the longer formats of the game. While he has shown glimpses of his T20 skills in the IPL, he has not been able to consistently replicate his performances at the international level.

Additionally, Saha has not been a regular feature in domestic T20 leagues outside the IPL, which may have hindered his chances of being selected for the national T20 squad. The selectors may prefer players who have performed well in multiple T20 leagues and have experience playing in different conditions.

Despite not playing T20Is for India, Saha remains a highly skilled cricketer and a valuable asset to his IPL franchise. His solid technique and excellent wicketkeeping skills make him an indispensable member of any team, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to break into the Indian T20I team in the future.

Rahul Tewatia

Rahul Tewatia is a talented Indian all-rounder who has made a name for himself in domestic T20 cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is known for his explosive batting and effective leg-spin bowling, which make him a valuable asset to any T20 team. However, Tewatia has not yet played a T20I for India despite his impressive performances.

One possible reason for Tewatia’s absence from the Indian T20I team could be the strong competition for a place in the team. India has a wealth of all-rounders who are fighting for a spot in the team, and that can be the reason why Tewatia has found it challenging to break into the squad. Additionally, the selectors may prefer players who have performed consistently well over a longer period and have more experience at the international level.

Another reason could be Tewatia’s inconsistency with both bat and ball. While he has shown flashes of brilliance in the IPL and domestic T20 cricket, he has not been able to maintain a high level of performance consistently. The selectors may prefer players who have a proven track record of performing well under pressure and in different conditions.

Additionally, Tewatia has not played in many other domestic T20 leagues outside the IPL, which may have hindered his chances of being selected for the national T20 squad. The selectors may prefer players who have experience playing in different conditions and against different opposition.

Despite not playing T20Is for India, Tewatia remains a highly talented cricketer who has the potential to make it to the national team in the future. His impressive performances in domestic T20 cricket and the IPL have caught the attention of selectors, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to break into the Indian T20I team in the future.

Top 10 IPL stars who flopped on the international stage

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a launching pad for several young cricketers, who have gone on to become stars on the international stage. However, not all IPL performers have been able to replicate their success at the highest level. The tournament provides an ideal platform for upcoming cricketers to showcase their skills alongside international players in a world-class competition. This presents them with an opportunity to prove their abilities and match the highest standards of the sport. The IPL’s motto in Sanskrit translates to “Where talent meets opportunity,” highlighting its focus on providing a platform for emerging players to shine.

In this article, we will take a look at the top 10 IPL stars who have failed to make a mark on the international stage despite their success in the IPL. These players have been hyped up as potential superstars but have failed to deliver when it mattered the most. We will examine their IPL performances and their struggles in international cricket to understand why they were unable to translate their IPL success into the international arena.

Top 10 IPL stars who flopped on the international stage

Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma, who is currently playing for GT in IPL 2023, made a name for himself during his initial stint with the team in 2013. He was bought for a whopping INR 5 Crore by CSK in the 2023 auction of the cash-rich tournament. Mohit Sharma made a significant impact in the IPL 2013 season, taking 20 wickets and playing a crucial role in Chennai Super Kings’ campaign.

Sharma’s performances caught the attention of the national selectors, and he was rewarded with a place in the Indian team later that year. In the following season of IPL, Mohit was even more impressive, winning the Purple Cap by taking 23 wickets. He was particularly known for his deceptive slower deliveries that bamboozled many batsmen.

Mohit Sharma made his debut for the Indian team on August 1, 2013, in an ODI against Zimbabwe, and his T20I debut followed in 2014 against Australia. In his international career, Mohit played 26 ODIs, taking 31 wickets at an average of 32.90, and 8 T20Is, picking up 6 wickets at an average of 30.83. Despite being part of the Indian squad for the 2015 World Cup, he failed to make much of an impact in the tournament.

Overall, Mohit’s international career was relatively forgettable, with only a few noteworthy performances to his credit. Mohit Sharma’s inconsistent performances eventually led to his exclusion from the Indian team. Within two years of making his debut, he lost his place in the squad and struggled to make a comeback despite his strong performances in the IPL.

Mandeep Singh

Mandeep Singh, who is currently playing for KKR in IPL 2023, initially gained recognition for his outstanding performances during the 2010 Under-19 World Cup. He subsequently made his first-class debut with Punjab. In 2010, Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him, but he received minimal playing time, facing only 11 balls that season. Kings XI Punjab purchased him the following year, but Mandeep still struggled to secure regular opportunities to play. Nonetheless, he persevered and continued to develop his skills.

At the age of 21, Mandeep Singh finally had his breakthrough season during IPL 2012. He emerged as the top scorer for Kings XI Punjab, amassing 432 runs across 16 matches. Mandeep’s impressive performance earned him the title of “Rising Star of the Tournament”. As a result, he was selected as one of the 30 probable for the T20 World Cup but unfortunately did not make the final cut. Nonetheless, his performances in IPL 2012 established him as a rising talent in Indian cricket.

Following his impressive performances in domestic cricket, Mandeep Singh was selected for his T20I debut for India in 2016 during their tour of Zimbabwe. He played in three T20I matches, showcasing his batting skills and scoring an aggressive unbeaten 52 off 40 balls in one of them. Overall, Mandeep scored 87 runs in the series but unfortunately was not picked for the national team after that.

Stuart Binny

Stuart Binny was a dependable player for the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the initial years of the IPL, particularly in 2013 when he had a standout season. In that year’s tournament, Binny scored 293 runs in 17 matches with an impressive strike rate of 147.23. He also contributed with the ball, taking 6 wickets at an economy rate of 6.75.

Stuart Binny’s strong IPL performances led to him being recognized as a valuable all-rounder, and he made his Test and ODI debut for India in 2014, followed by his T20I debut in 2015. Binny’s best performance in international cricket was a six-wicket haul against Bangladesh in a Test match. He also took 14 wickets in 14 ODIs, with an average of 21.95, and scored 205 runs in the format, averaging 28.75.

Despite being given multiple opportunities in international cricket, Stuart Binny struggled to replicate his IPL success at the highest level. He only managed to take 3 wickets in 6 Test matches, while scoring 194 runs. In the T20I format, he scored 35 runs and took just 1 wicket in the 3 matches he played, with an average of 54. Unfortunately, Binny failed to make the most of the opportunities he was given and eventually found himself out of the national team as well.

Abhishek Nayar

In Indian cricket, finding an all-rounder who excels both with the bat and ball is a rare occurrence. This makes players like Hardik Pandya all the more valuable to the team. Pandya’s significance in the current Indian squad is a testament to this fact. He is an excellent all-rounder who can contribute with both bat and ball, which gives the team more balance and flexibility. Pandya’s presence in the team adds an extra dimension to the Indian side and makes him a crucial player in their lineup.

A similar case happened when Indian cricket fans were hopeful of witnessing some stellar performances from another promising all-rounder, Abhishek Nayar. Hailing from Hyderabad, Nayar made a name for himself in Mumbai’s domestic cricket circuit, where he established himself as a dependable all-rounder.

Abhishek Nayar was picked up by his home franchise, Mumbai Indians, in the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In his debut season, Nayar batted in the lower order and scored 161 runs in 14 matches. He also bowled six overs of medium-pace and managed to pick up one wicket. In the following season, Nayar showed improvement in his all-around performance, scoring 193 runs and picking up four wickets.

Abhishek Nayar’s performances in the IPL, coupled with his impressive showings in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai, earned him a place in the national team. He was selected for the West Indies tour in 2009, where he played in his first two ODIs but did not get a chance to bat or bowl. Nayar was then included in the squad for the 2009 Champions Trophy, where he played a single match, remained not out on zero, and conceded 17 runs in his three overs. Unfortunately, Nayar was not given any more opportunities in the national team after that and was not considered for selection.

Albie Morkel

Albie Morkel, the former South African cricket player, was highly regarded for his all-around skills. Known for his ability to hit big shots and take crucial wickets, he played a total of 91 IPL matches for various franchises. However, his most successful stint was with the Chennai Super Kings. During the 2010 IPL season, Morkel set a record for the highest third-wicket partnership with Murali Vijay against the Rajasthan Royals. His contributions to the team’s success during that season were highly valued, and he became a fan favorite for his performances on the field.

In 2012, Albie Morkel won the Super Sixes tournament by hitting a ball over a distance of 105 meters. Throughout his IPL career, he has maintained an impressive batting average of over 24, with a strike rate of nearly 142, indicating his ability to score runs quickly. Additionally, Morkel has also taken a total of 85 wickets, showcasing his skills as a wicket-taking bowler. His all-around abilities have made him a valuable asset for his various teams, and he continues to be remembered as one of the most versatile players in IPL history.

Despite his success in the IPL, Albie Morkel’s international career was not as prolific. He represented South Africa in one Test match, 58 ODIs, and 50 T20Is, scoring a total of 58, 782, and 572 runs respectively. As a bowler, he took one wicket in Tests, 50 in ODIs, and 26 in T20Is, indicating his ability to contribute in all formats of the game. Morkel made his ODI debut for South Africa in 2004 and played his last international match in 2015. In January 2019, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, bringing an end to his long and illustrious career.

Saurabh Tiwary

Hailing from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand (formerly Bihar), Manoj Tiwary was frequently compared to the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni due to his left-handed batting style and physical resemblance to the iconic cricketer from his state. Tiwary represented the Indian under-19 team in the 2008 World Cup, showcasing his cricketing abilities at a young age.

Mumbai Indians identified the immense talent of Saurabh Tiwary and signed him as an emerging youngster. The turning point in Tiwary’s career came during the IPL 2010 season when, at the age of 21, he displayed his potential by accumulating an impressive total of 419 runs in just 14 matches. As a result, he was recognized as the Under-23 player of the tournament. Before this, Tiwary had already scored three centuries in the Ranji Trophy, showcasing his batting prowess.

Saurabh Tiwary’s impressive performance in the IPL paved the way for his inclusion in the Indian squad. In June 2010, he was selected for the Asia Cup and eventually earned his maiden cap for India in an ODI against Australia in Visakhapatnam. Despite batting at number seven, Tiwary contributed to the team’s successful chase of a daunting target of 290, scoring 12 not out from 22 deliveries.

Saurabh Tiwary played his next international match against New Zealand in December 2010, where he scored an unbeaten 37 runs. However, he did not get a chance to bat in the following ODI and was subsequently left out of the Indian team. Unfortunately, Tiwary also lost his form in the IPL and injuries further derailed his career.

Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn has been a crucial player for both Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League until he played in the league in 2021. He has played many unforgettable innings for his teams, often single-handedly carrying them to victory. Besides his remarkable batting abilities, Lynn is also known for his exceptional fielding skills, exemplified by his incredible catch to dismiss AB de Villiers a few years back. This catch garnered a lot of attention for Lynn and cemented his status as a gifted all-around player.

Despite his success in the Indian Premier League, Chris Lynn’s transition to international cricket was not as smooth. After being selected for the national team following a stellar IPL season, Lynn struggled to solidify his place in the playing XI. To date, he has played four One Day Internationals and 18 Twenty20 Internationals for Australia, scoring 75 and 291 runs, respectively. Despite having a strike rate of over 130 in T20Is, Lynn’s position in the squad remained uncertain.

Parvinder Awana

Parvinder Awana emerged as a promising right-arm fast bowler for India, capable of consistent bowling at speeds exceeding 140 kmph. He made his first-class debut for Delhi in 2007 and quickly established himself, picking up 40 wickets in his first 12 matches across two seasons. His impressive performances in the 2011-12 season helped him earn a place in the IPL, and he was picked up by Kings XI Punjab.

Parvinder Awana made the most of his opportunity with Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. In the 2012 season, despite not playing in all the matches, he finished as the team’s leading wicket-taker, picking up a total of 17 wickets in just 12 matches while maintaining an economy rate of fewer than eight runs per over. Awana’s impressive performance in the IPL boosted his claims for selection in the Indian team, and he became a contender for a spot on the national side.

Parvinder Awana’s international cricket career was brief, lasting only three days. He played two T20I matches for India against the touring England team, but unfortunately, he had a disappointing outing. Awana conceded a total of 71 runs in the six overs he bowled across the two matches, which ruled him out of the national side. Despite his good performance in the 2013 IPL season, he was not considered for selection again, and his international cricketing career ended abruptly.

Sohail Tanvir

Sohail Tanvir made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 as part of the Rajasthan Royals team. He had a remarkable season, emerging as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. Tanvir played 11 matches and took 22 wickets at an average of 12.09, with an economy rate of 6.46. He also claimed a record-breaking six-wicket haul, conceding only 14 runs, which stood as the best bowling figures in the tournament for a long time. However, in 2019, Alzarri Joseph broke Tanvir’s record by taking six wickets for just 12 runs.

Sohail Tanvir was a promising left-arm pacer who was expected to do well for Pakistan. He started his career on a high note and showed early promise. However, his form began to dip due to inconsistencies and a lack of focus on the game, which ultimately led to him losing his place on the national team.

Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev Unadkat went through a lean phase in the 2015 and 2016 editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), failing to take a single wicket in both seasons. However, he bounced back strongly after moving to the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017. Unadkat had a fantastic season, picking up 24 wickets in 12 matches at an economy rate of 7.03. It was his best season in the IPL, and he played a crucial role in Pune’s journey to the final.

Jaydev Unadkat’s impressive performances in the 2017 IPL earned him a recall to the Indian T20I team. However, his form did not carry over to the international level as he managed only 10 wickets in six matches with an economy rate of 9.88 in 2018. As a result, he lost his place in the team and has struggled to make a comeback since then. Currently, Unadkat is part of the LSG (Lucknow Super Giants) set up in the 2023 IPL season.

IPL 2023: R Ashwin fined 25% over breach of conduct vs CSK

IPL 2023: R Ashwin fined 25% over breach of conduct vs CSK

After ensuring his team’s victory over four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined 25 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 17 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Ashwin admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.  It is to be noted that Article 2.7 states, “Public criticism of, or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in a Match or any Player, Team Official, Match Official or Team participating in any Match, irrespective of when such criticism or inappropriate comment is made.”

Ashwin was charged for his comments in the post-match interview. The Rajasthan Royals spinner stated, “I’m quite surprised the umpires changed the ball for dew on their own. It’s never happened before and I’m quite surprised.”

He further added, “Some of the decisions in this year’s IPL on the field have left me a little flummoxed, to be honest. It left me flummoxed in a good or bad way because what you need is a little bit of balance. We’re going as a bowling team and we’re not asking for the ball to be changed. But the ball was changed on the umpire’s accord. What reason – I did ask the umpire but he said we can change it.”

Additionally, Rajasthan Royal skipper Sanju Samson was fined INR 12 lakhs after his side maintained a slow over-rate in the same match against Chennai Super Kings.

KKR vs RCB – KKR won by 140 Runs (2008)

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 1st season of the IPL on April 18, 2008, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. KKR won the toss and elected to bat first, putting up a massive total of 222 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Brendon McCullum played a breathtaking knock of 158* off just 73 balls, which included 13 fours and 10 sixes.

In response, the RCB side was bundled out for just 82 runs in 15.1 overs, handing KKR a massive victory by 140 runs, which is still the biggest win in IPL history in terms of runs. Ashok Dinda was the pick of the KKR bowlers, taking 4 wickets for just 18 runs in his 3.1 overs.

The KKR vs RCB match in 2008 was a historic game that set the tone for the inaugural season of the IPL. Brendon McCullum’s innings was a masterclass in power hitting, and it was the first time that fans witnessed the true potential of T20 cricket. The game also highlighted the importance of team strategy and individual performances’ impact on a match’s outcome. The victory was a significant boost for KKR and set the foundation for their success in the years to come.

KXIP vs CSK, Super Kings won by 6 wickets (2010)

Mahendra Singh Dhoni had cemented his status as a crucial player in T20 cricket by 2010, earning the moniker “finisher” for his ability to close out games. A match in Dharamshala during that season only served to reinforce this label, as it was a must-win game for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to advance to the semi-finals of the IPL. The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) had set a formidable target of 192/3, and it was up to CSK’s batsmen to chase it down. Dhoni led the way with a masterful display of finishing skills, helping CSK secure a crucial victory and a spot in the semi-finals.

Despite a challenging target set by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) struggled early on in their innings, with a score of 27/2 after 4 overs. The odds seemed to be against the CSK side, and victory appeared to be slipping away. However, the match went down to the wire, with CSK needing 16 runs off the final over, which was to be bowled by Irfan Pathan. Despite the pressure, MS Dhoni, with his finishing skills, only needed four deliveries to secure the win, making it one of the most exciting matches in IPL history.

MI vs KKR, MI won by 5 wickets (2011)

The 70th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2011, featuring Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, is often regarded as one of the most memorable games in the tournament’s history. Kolkata Knight Riders batted first and set a challenging target of 175 runs in their allotted 20 overs, albeit losing 7 wickets in the process. However, Mumbai Indians put up a valiant effort and successfully chased down the target with 5 wickets in hand, clinching the victory in the final over of the match.

During the game’s closing stages, many believed that Mumbai Indians would not be able to pull off a win, as they needed to score 40 runs in just 2.3 overs. However, James Franklin took charge of the situation and led the team’s charge toward victory. In an incredible batting display, he hit four consecutive boundaries off Lakshmipathy Balaji in the final over, propelling Mumbai Indians to a memorable triumph. This stunning performance by Franklin turned the tide of the match and left the spectators in awe.

The game was filled with thrilling moments, including some outstanding performances from players on both teams. The match left a lasting impression on cricket fans and pundits alike, showcasing the excitement and competitiveness that the IPL is known for.

MI vs RR, Mumbai won by 5 wickets (2014)

The Wankhede Stadium witnessed another nail-biting encounter involving Mumbai Indians (MI) in their backyard. MI and Rajasthan Royals were both in need of a victory to secure a place in the playoffs. However, MI was under added pressure as they needed to win by a significant margin.

Following the norm of the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to chase the opposition’s score. Despite a valiant effort from the Rajasthan Royals, including fantastic half-centuries from Sanju Samson (74 off 47) and Karun Nair (50 off 27), they set a daunting target of 189-4 for MI to chase down. The task appeared even more challenging for Rohit Sharma’s team, as they had to achieve the target in just 14.3 overs to advance in the tournament.

After the early dismissals of their star players Keiron Pollard and captain Rohit Sharma within the first 10 overs, Mumbai Indians appeared to be on the brink of an early exit. However, MI found a new hero in the form of New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson, who played brilliant innings of 95 runs off just 44 balls. Anderson’s explosive knock included nine sixes and six boundaries, and it turned the game on its head.

The atmosphere was electric as the match between two fierce rivals unfolded. The tension heightened when Rayudu was run out on the third ball of the 15th over, leaving many of the home team’s supporters feeling disheartened about their chances of winning. However, after a lengthy discussion between the umpires both on and off the field, they decided that a boundary could still improve the home team’s net run rate (NRR) enough to secure their qualification.

As the game continued, the excitement in the stadium grew with each passing moment. The crowd erupted as James Faulkner charged in to deliver a waist-high full toss on the leg stump to Aditya Tare. The batsman did not disappoint as he sent the ball sailing over the boundary ropes, much to the delight of the home fans. It was a truly unforgettable night for the supporters as their team emerged victorious in a jittery match.

RCB vs PWI, RCB won by 130 runs (2013)

One cannot create a list of the greatest matches in IPL history without mentioning the thrilling encounter that took place on April 23, 2013. Representing RCB, the left-handed batsman Chris Gayle performed remarkably by decimating the bowling attack of Pune Warriors, amassing a colossal score of 175* in just 66 balls.

Chris Gayle’s knock in the match against PWI is widely regarded as one of the greatest individual performances in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gayle’s destructive knock, which was played against the Pune Warriors, included 13 fours and 17 sixes, which helped RCB to post an imposing total of 263 runs for the loss of just five wickets. During his innings, Gayle broke several records, including the record for the highest individual score in a T20 match, surpassing the previous best of 158* by Brendon McCullum. He also became the first batsman to score a century in the IPL that year.

Gayle’s innings was characterized by his explosive hitting and his ability to take the attack to the opposition bowlers from the outset. The southpaw dominated the Pune Warriors bowlers right from the start and never allowed them to settle into any kind of rhythm. His batting display was not just limited to raw power hitting but also included some deft touches and smart placement of the ball to find gaps in the field.

The match was one-sided, as RCB went on to win by a massive margin of 130 runs, which remains one of the largest victories in the history of the IPL. Chris Gayle’s innings in this match will always be remembered as one of the most explosive and thrilling displays of power-hitting ever seen in T20 cricket.

RCB vs CSK, Super Kings won by 5 wickets (2018)

Fans of both teams eagerly anticipate the fierce rivalry that has grown between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) over the years. However, due to a ban imposed on CSK in 2016 and 2017, the rivalry was suspended for two years.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were eyeing a strong comeback in the 2018 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and their potential was justified in the high-scoring match at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. The South African duo of Quinton de Kock (53 off 37) and AB de Villiers (68 off 30) put up an impressive performance, helping Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) post a competitive score of 205-8. However, given the small ground and lightning-fast outfield, the total was not necessarily winning.

The first Super Over between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians ended in a tie, leading to a second Super Over, where Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal’s heroics helped their team secure a thrilling victory. This unforgettable day in IPL history provided fans with an abundance of entertainment, with each match being filled with unpredictability and excitement.

The cricket match between MI and PBKS at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium turned out to be one of the most thrilling encounters in the history of the Indian Premier League. This match marked the first instance in IPL history when a game went into two Super Overs.

Winning the toss, Mumbai Indians elected to bat first, but they found it difficult to build momentum, as they could only post a total of 176 runs, losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Kieron Pollard was the top-scorer for MI, contributing 34 runs off just 12 deliveries. However, Mohammed Shami stood out with the ball for PBKS, finishing with impressive figures of 2 wickets for 30 runs in his four overs.

PBKS faced a challenging situation as they were struggling at 87/3 after 11 overs in their chase, but an outstanding inning of 77 runs off 59 balls from their captain KL Rahul revived their hopes of winning the match. However, despite their valiant efforts, PBKS required two runs to clinch the game off the last ball but could only score a single run, leading to the first Super Over of the match.

During the first Super Over, Mumbai Indians put up a modest total of 5 runs, courtesy of Mohammad Shami’s brilliant bowling. In reply, Kings XI Punjab also managed to score 5 runs, resulting in the match going into the second Super Over. In the second Super Over, Mumbai Indians posted a total of 11 runs which the Punjab Kings successfully chased.
