Gambhir acknowledged that team combinations at the time prevented Suryakumar from batting at the No. 3 spot, a decision he now regrets. “As a leader, you think about the other 10 players as well,” Gambhir explained. “If Surya had batted at No. 3, he would have been a lot more effective.”

Suryakumar responded with humor, suggesting that his full potential could now be utilized under Gambhir’s guidance as head coach. “But again as you said, SRK is an emotion, I think KKR is an emotion for me as well. That’s why I feel that when any relationship starts on trust, that trust then goes a long way.”

“It’s the trust between us because I know he will never involve himself in cricketing matters and he knows that any decision I take will be in the best interests of the team and not for anything else,” he added.

Gambhir’s return to KKR as a mentor is expected to bring valuable experience and guidance to the team. His close relationship with Khan and his understanding of the franchise’s culture will be key assets in his new role.
