Salman Nizar’s Blazing Knock Steals Victory for Calicut Globstars

In a thrilling encounter of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL), Calicut Globstars pulled off a remarkable heist against Kochi Blue Tigers, thanks to a blazing knock by Salman Nizar.

Chasing a challenging target of 170, Globstars were in dire straits at 79 for six. However, Nizar stepped up to the plate and played an unforgettable innings, smashing an unbeaten 73 off just 41 deliveries. His knock was studded with four boundaries and six towering sixes.

Nizar’s heroics were complemented by a crucial 61-run partnership with M. Nikhil (27). The duo revived Globstars’ hopes and brought them within striking distance of victory.

In the final over, Globstars needed 21 runs to win. Nizar took matters into his own hands, carting left-arm spinner P.S. Jerin for three consecutive sixes. He then scampered a two and took a single to seal the victory with one ball to spare.

Earlier, Kochi Blue Tigers had posted a competitive 169 for four, thanks to a standout performance by Shoun Roger. Roger’s unbeaten 73 off 38 balls, which included seven fours and five sixes, propelled the Tigers to a daunting total.

In the other match of the day, Alleppey Ripples snapped their losing streak by ending Trivandrum Royal’s unbeaten run with a 52-run victory. Ripples defended the lowest total (125/7) in a winning cause in the tournament after bundling out Royals for a mere 73.

Akshay Chandran was the star performer for Ripples, claiming four wickets for just nine runs in his four overs. His victims included the prized scalp of Abdul Basith, whose ill-advised reverse sweep resulted in a catch to wicketkeeper Azharuddeen.

Sachin Baby’s Century Powers Kollam Sailors to Victory in Kerala Cricket League

Sachin Baby’s remarkable century (105 n.o., 50b, 5×4, 8×6) propelled Kollam Sailors to a resounding seven-wicket victory over Kochi Blue Tigers in the Kerala Cricket League at the Greenfield Stadium.

Baby’s masterful innings, the first-ever century in the league’s history, single-handedly guided his team to victory. After reaching his half-century, Baby accelerated his scoring rate, reaching his hundred in just 16 more deliveries.

The Blue Tigers’ Manu Krishnan had a night to forget. He dropped Baby on 73 off Basil Thampi’s bowling and overstepped at the bowling crease after having Rahul Sharma caught in the deep. Baby, who faced the next ball as the batters had crossed, clobbered the Free Hit for a six and then smashed three successive maximums off the left-arm medium pacer to race to his century.

The Sailors’ victory cemented their position at the top of the table with 12 points. Earlier, Sijomon Joseph’s 50 helped the Blue Tigers post a competitive total of 158 for eight, but it proved insufficient in the face of Baby’s heroics.

In another match, Trivandrum Royals extended its winning streak with an eight-wicket victory over Thrissur Titans. The Royals’ fourth win moved them up to third in the points table, while the Titans remained in fifth place after their fifth loss.

Royals’ most expensive buy, M.S. Akhil, stole the limelight from his skipper Abdul Basith. Akhil anchored the chase with an unbeaten 54 and finished the match in style by clubbing Monu Krisha for successive sixes. Akhil’s 86-run unbeaten third-wicket stand with Govind Dev Pai saw the Royals win with 13 balls to spare.
