Jitesh Sharma Prefers CSK or MI if Not Retained by Punjab Kings

Jitesh Sharma Prefers CSK or MI if Not Retained by Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings’ wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma, who has been a part of India’s T20I squads, has expressed his preference for playing for Chennai Super Kings or Mumbai Indians if not retained by Punjab Kings in the upcoming IPL auction.

Jitesh, who has captained Punjab Kings in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan and Sam Curran, has been a key contributor to the team’s middle order with his aggressive batting. Despite not playing in the recent India-Bangladesh series, Jitesh remains hopeful of being retained by Punjab Kings.

However, if not retained, Jitesh has revealed his desire to play for either Chennai Super Kings or Mumbai Indians. Having played for Mumbai Indians in 2016-17, Jitesh holds a special fondness for the team and the Wankhede Stadium.

“I have experienced the MI atmosphere, and I love Wankhede because, as a Maharashtrian, it has always been close to my heart,” said Jitesh. “During my younger days, I watched matches at Wankhede and sat outside, feeling the vibe. I want to experience that feeling while playing inside the stadium for Mumbai Indians.”

Jitesh also expressed his admiration for Chennai Super Kings and their captain MS Dhoni. “I would like to play for Chennai Super Kings because of Mahi bhai and because Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK captain) is my good friend and I enjoy playing under him the same way I enjoy playing under Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) bhai,” he said.

Despite the pressure of performing in the IPL, Jitesh believes that it is important to perform well at all levels. “No, performing everywhere is important,” he said. “Riyan Parag made it into the ODI side because of his performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. You have to perform at every platform you get, and the rewards will follow.”

Jitesh rose to prominence during the IPL 2022 season when he was acquired by Punjab Kings for INR 20 lakh. Serving primarily as a finisher, Jitesh made a significant impact, scoring 234 runs with a strike rate of 163.64. He continued his strong performance in the 2023 season, accumulating 309 runs with a strike rate of 156.06.

Over his tenure with Punjab Kings, which spans 40 matches, Jitesh has maintained a batting strike rate of over 151.14, solidifying his reputation in the league. Despite his previous successes, his performance in IPL 2024 was below expectations. In that season, he managed to score only 187 runs across 14 innings, holding an average of 17.

Reeza Hendricks Fetches Record Bid at SA20 Auction

Reeza Hendricks Fetches Record Bid at SA20 Auction

South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks emerged as the most sought-after player at the SA20 auction ahead of the 2025 season, fetching a staggering bid of Rand 4.3 million. MI Cape Town outbid Pretoria Capitals in a fierce bidding war to secure the services of the batter.

Despite a disappointing T20 World Cup performance and being released by Joburg Super Kings, Hendricks’ recent form, including back-to-back half-centuries against Ireland, made him a highly desirable asset. He will reunite with his Lions teammates Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton at Cape Town.

However, Temba Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi remained unsold, as six franchises had only 13 spots to fill. Durban’s Super Giants filled their lone slot with West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph, who had previously gone unsold. Joseph will join Allan Donald, the new bowling coach of Super Giants.

Cape Town also added Colin Ingram and Dane Piedt to their roster, bolstering their batting and spin attack, respectively. Back-to-back champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape continued their focus on fast bowlers, acquiring England’s Richard Gleeson and Dolphins’ Okuhle Cele.

Joburg Super Kings recruited allrounders Wihan Lubbe, Evan Jones, and Doug Bracewell, while Paarl Royals signed wicketkeeper Rubin Hermann. Pretoria Capitals spent heavily on Dolphins’ Marques Ackerman and West Indies opener Evin Lewis.

Graeme Smith, the former South Africa captain and current SA20 commissioner, expressed satisfaction with the strength of all six teams, highlighting the mix of quality South African and international players. He emphasized the league’s goal of developing South African players and pointed to the success of Ottneil Baartman as an example.

Super Kings selected Warriors’ allrounder JP King as their rookie player, while all other franchises have announced their wildcard picks. Notably, Royals have signed former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik as their wildcard player, making him the first Indian to feature in the SA20.

Sunil Narine Joins Elite Club with 400 Runs and 15 Wickets in IPL Season

Sunil Narine Joins Elite Club with 400 Runs and 15 Wickets in IPL Season

Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) all-rounder Sunil Narine etched his name in the history books of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday during their clash against Mumbai Indians (MI). Narine became the third cricketer to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 400 runs and claiming 15 wickets in a single season of the cash-rich league, joining the elite company of Shane Watson and Jacques Kallis.

The match at Eden Gardens was reduced to a 16-over contest due to rain, and Narine played a crucial role in KKR’s victory. He dismissed opener Ishan Kishan in his three-over spell, taking his tally to 15 wickets for the season. With 461 runs already under his belt, Narine became the third player to achieve the unique double of 400 runs and 15 wickets in an IPL season.

Watson had achieved this feat for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2008, scoring 472 runs and taking 17 wickets. Kallis had also accomplished the same for KKR in IPL 2012, with 409 runs and 15 wickets.

KKR’s victory was largely due to a collective effort from their spinners. Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell, and Harshit Rana combined to restrict MI to 139/8 in their 16 overs, despite a valiant effort from Ishan Kishan (40) and Tilak Varma (32).

KKR’s top-order batsmen also played their part, with Venkatesh Iyer (42), Nitish Rana (33), and Andre Russell (24) contributing valuable runs. Rinku Singh’s quickfire 20 off 12 balls helped KKR reach a competitive total of 157/7.

With this victory, KKR cemented their position at the top of the points table, while MI remained rooted to the bottom. KKR’s impressive performance has been built on the all-round contributions of players like Narine, who continue to make significant impacts on the game.

Kolkata Knight Riders Equal Mumbai Indians’ Record for Most Wins at a Single Venue in IPL History

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have etched their name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) record books by equaling the feat of five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) for the most wins at a single venue. With their thrilling victory over MI at Eden Gardens on Saturday, KKR now boast 52 wins at their home ground, matching MI’s tally at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

The match, which was initially affected by rain and reduced to a 16-over contest, witnessed a remarkable comeback from KKR. After posting a modest total of 158, the two-time champions restricted MI to 139/8, securing their spot in the playoffs of IPL 2024.

KKR’s spinners played a pivotal role in the victory, with Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine claiming three wickets each. Andre Russell also chipped in with two wickets, while Pat Cummins and Tim Southee picked up one wicket apiece.

This triumph marks a significant milestone in the IPL’s history, as KKR become the first team to equal MI’s record of 52 wins at a single venue. Other IPL teams with impressive home records include Chennai Super Kings (49 wins at MA Chidambaram Stadium), Royal Challengers Bangalore (42 wins at M Chinnaswamy Stadium), and Rajasthan Royals (37 wins at Sawai Mansingh Stadium).

Currently, KKR occupy the top position on the points table with nine wins and three losses, while MI languish at the bottom with four wins and nine losses. This victory further highlights the contrasting fortunes of the two franchises in IPL 2024.

CSK's Gaikwad Thrives Under Dhoni's Guidance, MI's Pandya Faces Playoff Disappointment

CSK’s Gaikwad Thrives Under Dhoni’s Guidance, MI’s Pandya Faces Playoff Disappointment

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed significant captaincy changes this season, with two of its most successful teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), entrusting new leaders. MS Dhoni, the legendary CSK captain, has passed the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad, while Hardik Pandya has taken over the reins at MI, succeeding Rohit Sharma.

CSK’s leadership transition has been seamless, with minimal disruption to the established hierarchy. In contrast, MI has faced considerable backlash following their unexpected setback, becoming the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs race.

Reflecting on his new role, Gaikwad has emphasized Dhoni’s supportive stance while allowing him autonomy in decision-making. “Last year, I was thinking about what changes I would make if I were captain,” Gaikwad said. “I’m happy that I took control of the first game and didn’t ask for suggestions from Dhoni.”

Dhoni has given Gaikwad full responsibility, offering guidance only when necessary. “He said, ‘Whatever you do, it’s your decision and responsibility. I won’t interfere. I’ll help with field angles if needed, but you’ll have to take care of the batting order and everything else,'” Gaikwad revealed.

As CSK aims to secure a playoff berth, Gaikwad’s leadership faces a crucial test against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday. RR, currently second in the standings, will be looking to bounce back from successive defeats and consolidate their playoff entry under Sanju Samson’s leadership.

KKR Clinch Playoff Berth with 18-Run Win over MI

KKR Clinch Playoff Berth with 18-Run Win over MI

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a playoff berth and a likely top-two finish in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with an 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a rain-affected match in Kolkata.

Despite losing their openers early, KKR posted a competitive 157 for 7 in 16 overs, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer’s 42 and some late hitting from the lower order.

In response, MI’s chase was stifled by KKR’s spin twins, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. The duo conceded just 22 runs in the five overs after the powerplay, claiming two wickets and mounting pressure on the visitors.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tim David attempted to accelerate the chase but fell to Andre Russell’s variations. MI stumbled to 92 for 5, and despite a late cameo from Tilak Varma, they were unable to recover.

Varma reduced the equation to 22 required from six balls, but his dismissal early in the last over sealed MI’s ninth loss in 13 matches.

KKR’s victory was built on a solid bowling performance, with Chakravarthy and Russell claiming two wickets each. Harshit Rana also chipped in with two wickets.

For MI, Ishan Kishan top-scored with 40, while Varma’s 32 provided some late hope. However, the team’s batting lineup failed to fire consistently, leading to their defeat.

KKR Aim to Seal Playoff Berth Against Struggling Mumbai Indians

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the two-time former Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, are on the cusp of securing a playoff berth for the first time in three years. They will face the struggling Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final home match of the season on Saturday, with a win guaranteeing them a spot in the top four.

KKR have been in red-hot form this season, winning eight of their 11 matches. They currently sit atop the 10-team standings with 16 points. A victory over MI would extend their lead and all but confirm their place in the playoffs.

On the other hand, MI have endured a disappointing campaign, winning just three of their 11 matches. They are languishing at the bottom of the table and have already been eliminated from playoff contention. However, they will be determined to end their season on a high note and spoil KKR’s party.

KKR will be led by their star-studded batting lineup, which includes the likes of Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, and Shreyas Iyer. They also have a formidable bowling attack, spearheaded by Umesh Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy.

MI, meanwhile, will rely on their experienced players such as Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, and Jasprit Bumrah to guide them to a victory. They will also need their young guns, like Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, to step up and deliver.

The match promises to be an exciting contest between two teams with contrasting fortunes. KKR will be the favorites, but MI will be desperate to prove that they are not a spent force.

KKR Aim to Extend Dominance Over MI in Crucial IPL Clash

KKR Aim to Extend Dominance Over MI in Crucial IPL Clash

Kolkata Knight Riders Aim to Extend Dominance Over Mumbai Indians

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday. KKR, currently sitting atop the standings, will be looking to secure a fifth consecutive victory and solidify their playoff berth. MI, on the other hand, have been eliminated from contention but will be eager to end their disappointing season on a high note.

Historically, MI has held a significant advantage over KKR, boasting a 23-10 overall record and a 7-3 advantage at the Eden Gardens. However, KKR’s recent resurgence and their victory over MI at the Wankhede Stadium last week have shifted the balance in their favor.

KKR’s success has been built on their aggressive batting approach, led by Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey. Their bowling attack, featuring Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell, and Varun Chakravarthy, has also been impressive. MI, meanwhile, has struggled to find consistency, with their overseas players underperforming and their Indian stars failing to deliver consistently.

Team News and Impact Player Strategy

KKR is unlikely to make any significant changes to their winning combination. Nitish Rana could potentially replace Angkrish Raghuvanshi, but the team may opt to maintain their left-handed batting balance. Vaibhav Arora is the most likely impact player swap for a batter.

MI may consider resting key players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya, but no official announcements have been made. Akash Madhwal is the likely replacement for Bumrah, while Anshul Kamboj is expected to retain his place in the all-rounder role. Piyush Chawla or Shreyas Gopal could be used as an impact player swap for a batter if needed.

Players in the Spotlight

Mitchell Starc’s experience and tournament-winning mentality will be crucial for KKR as they approach the playoffs. His ability to bowl at the death and provide breakthroughs will be key.

Rohit Sharma, India’s T20 World Cup opener, has been struggling for form in recent matches. His low average and strike rate in the powerplay are a concern, and he will be looking to rediscover his touch against KKR.

Stats that Matter

* MI has lost nine of their last 13 away games, with the lowest away win percentage (30.7) among all teams.
* MI’s overseas players have the second-poorest bowling average (43.6), economy rate (11.04), and batting average (21.1) in IPL 2024.
* Rohit Sharma has been dismissed by Sunil Narine ten times in 25 T20s, averaging 18.7 against the spinner.
* Narine has a batting strike rate of 117 between overs 1-3 in the powerplay, but it shoots up to 245 between overs 4-6.

Pitch and Conditions

The Eden Gardens pitch is expected to be batting-friendly, but recent rain in Kolkata may make the outfield sluggish. There is a possibility of rain on Saturday, which could affect the match.

KKR Eyes Playoff Berth as MI Looks to Salvage Pride

KKR Eyes Playoff Berth as MI Looks to Salvage Pride

In a highly anticipated clash, two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face off against the struggling Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final home match of the season on Saturday. KKR, under the guidance of former skipper Gautam Gambhir as team mentor, has found a winning formula this season, sitting atop the standings with eight wins from 11 matches.

KKR’s success has been largely attributed to the explosive opening partnership of Sunil Narine and Phil Salt. Narine, the Trinidadian all-rounder, has been a revelation with the bat, scoring 461 runs at a strike rate of 183.66, including a century and three fifties. Salt, the English batter, has also contributed significantly with 429 runs at a strike rate of 183.33.

The duo’s consistent performances have allowed KKR to post six 200-plus totals from eight matches batting first. Narine’s 32 sixes are second only to Abhishek Sharma (35) in the tournament.

In contrast, MI, under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, has become the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs race. Despite a morale-boosting win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, MI will be looking to salvage some pride in their remaining matches.

Suryakumar Yadav has been in scintillating form for MI, scoring 56 and 102 not out in his last two innings. His performances augur well for Team India ahead of the T20 World Cup next month. However, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have struggled for runs, with Pandya failing to cross 10 in his last six innings.

Pandya’s poor form is a concern for India, as he is a key all-rounder in their T20 World Cup squad.

KKR Triumph Over MI with Iyer's Half-Century and Spin Twins' Brilliance

KKR Triumph Over MI with Iyer’s Half-Century and Spin Twins’ Brilliance

Venkatesh Iyer’s valiant half-century and a brilliant bowling performance from Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy propelled Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a morale-boosting victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

Despite losing early wickets, Iyer played a controlled knock, scoring 70 off 52 balls and forming an 83-run partnership with Manish Pandey (42). However, a mix-up with Andre Russell led to Iyer’s run-out, sparking a debate online about whether he should have sacrificed his wicket.

KKR’s spin twins, Narine and Chakravarthy, then took control of the match, claiming identical hauls of 4-22 in their four overs each. They reduced MI to 61/4, and despite a valiant rescue attempt by Suryakumar Yadav and Tim David, Russell and Mitchell Starc shared five wickets to end MI’s fightback.

Starc claimed three wickets in the 19th over, including two off successive deliveries, finishing with 4-33. MI were bowled out for 145, giving KKR a much-needed victory against a team that had won 23 out of 32 matches before this encounter.

Iyer’s innings was crucial for KKR, as he provided stability to the batting order after the early wickets. His partnership with Pandey gave KKR a platform to build a competitive total. However, his run-out raised questions about his decision-making, with some arguing that he should have sacrificed his wicket to allow Russell to continue batting.

The bowling performance of Narine and Chakravarthy was equally impressive. They exploited the Wankhede pitch conditions to perfection, bamboozling the MI batters with their variations. Russell and Starc then provided the finishing touches, ensuring that KKR secured a comfortable victory.

This victory is a significant boost for KKR, who have struggled for consistency in recent seasons. It will give them confidence as they look to make a strong push for the playoffs. For MI, it is a setback, but they will be determined to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
