PM Modi Pens Heartfelt Letter to Neeraj Chopra’s Mother for Delicious ‘Choorma’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent letter to Neeraj Chopra’s mother, Saroj Devi, has garnered widespread attention and admiration. In the letter, PM Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the delicious “choorma” (a traditional delicacy from Haryana and Rajasthan) that she had prepared for him.

The story began earlier this year when PM Modi requested Neeraj to bring homemade “choorma” for him. Saroj Devi, a dedicated mother, promised to fulfill the Prime Minister’s wish. On Tuesday, during a meeting with Neeraj amidst the Jamaican Prime Minister’s visit to India, PM Modi had the opportunity to savor the delectable “choorma.”

In his letter to Saroj Devi, PM Modi revealed that he was deeply moved after tasting the “choorma.” He admitted that he couldn’t resist writing a letter to her to express his appreciation. “Respected Saroj Devi ji, Regards! Hope you are healthy, safe, and happy. Yesterday at a banquet organized on the occasion of the visit of the Prime Minister of Jamaica to India, I got the opportunity to meet Neeraj. My happiness went up multiple times when he gave me delicious choorma made by you. After eating this choorma today, I could not stop myself from writing a letter to you,” PM Modi wrote.

PM Modi went on to praise Saroj Devi’s culinary skills and the love and dedication she embodies as a mother. He noted that Neeraj had often spoken about her “choorma” with him, but tasting it firsthand had filled him with emotion. “Mother is the embodiment of strength, affection, and dedication. It’s a coincidence that I got this prasad a day before Navratri begins. I fast during these nine days of Navratri. In a way, this choorma of yours has become my main food before my fasting period,” PM Modi wrote.

The Prime Minister also drew a parallel between the energy that “choorma” provides Neeraj to win medals for the country and the strength it would give him to serve the nation during the upcoming Navratri festival. “Just like the food prepared by you gives Neeraj the energy to win medals for the country, similarly, this choorma will give me the strength to serve the nation for the next 9 days. On this occasion of festival Navratri, I assure you and the women of this country that I will continue to work with more dedication to make the resolution of a developed India a reality. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!” PM Modi added.

PM Modi’s letter has not only touched Saroj Devi but has also resonated with countless Indians who appreciate the bond between a mother and her child. It serves as a reminder of the importance of family, tradition, and the power of simple gestures.

Matches took place in New York’s Nassau County Stadium, Texas’s Grand Prairie Stadium, and Florida’s Central Broward Park. Harmeet Singh, an Indian U19 bowler who played for India in the 2012 U19 WC and domestic cricket for Mumbai, also played for the USA, taking four wickets and scoring 69 runs in four innings.

USA captain Monank Patel scored a crucial half-century against Pakistan, helping his team reach 159/3. India won the tournament, ending their 11-year ICC trophy drought.

During a meeting with the Indian Olympic contingent at his residence, PM Modi congratulated Sehrawat on becoming India’s youngest Olympic medalist. With a broad smile, the Prime Minister inquired if Sehrawat had indulged in any of his favorite foods upon returning from Paris. The 21-year-old Haryana native replied with a smile, “I haven’t gone home yet, sir.”

PM Modi quipped, “You should’ve told us; we could’ve made something for you!” Sehrawat, in his typical Haryanvi accent, responded with simplicity, “Once I’m home, I’ll definitely have choorma.”

Sehrawat, who lost his parents at a tender age of 10, trains and resides at New Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium. He defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz 13-5 to win the bronze medal at the Champ-de-Mars Arena, extending India’s wrestling medal streak at the Olympics since the Beijing Games in 2008.

With a shy smile, Chopra replied, “This time I will treat you with churma from Haryana; last time we had the sugary one from Delhi.” The Prime Minister eagerly expressed his craving for homemade churma, saying, “I want to savor churma made by your mother.”

Later, Chopra’s mother, Saroj Devi, promised PM Modi that she would send a special ‘choorma’ for him.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also acknowledged Sen’s performance, reminding him, “You are from ‘Devbhumi (Uttarakhand),’ and you are a celebrity now.” The Prime Minister’s words highlighted the pride of the nation in Sen’s achievements, even without a medal.

In response, Sen shared a behind-the-scenes story, mentioning that coach Prakash Padukone took his phone during his matches to help him stay focused. “Prakash Sir had taken away my phone during the matches, and said you won’t get it until the matches are over,” Sen said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an ambitious goal for India: to host the Olympics in 2036. During his Independence Day speech on Thursday, PM Modi announced that preparations are already underway for this grand event.

India’s Olympic aspirations are not unfounded. The country has proven its ability to host major international events, such as the G20 Summit. PM Modi expressed confidence that India has the infrastructure and capabilities to successfully organize the Olympics.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Indian athletes who represented the nation at the recently concluded Paris Olympics 2024. He also extended his best wishes to the contingent of athletes traveling to the upcoming Paralympics.

India’s Paralympic team is expected to continue the country’s impressive performance in the Games. At the Tokyo Paralympics, India won 19 medals, while at the Para Asian Games, the team secured a historic 111 medals.

For the Paris Paralympics, India has fielded its largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes. They will compete in 12 sports, including archery, athletics, badminton, canoeing, cycling, blind judo, powerlifting, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo.

If India’s bid is successful, it will be the first time the country has hosted the Olympics. The event would provide a major boost to India’s sports infrastructure and inspire a new generation of athletes.

Mohammed Shami Urges Citizens to Vote, Expresses Gratitude for PM Modi’s Praise

Indian star pacer Mohammed Shami cast his vote in Amroha during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on Friday. After exercising his franchise, Shami emphasized the importance of voting and encouraged citizens to “elect the government of their choice.”

“Every citizen has the right to cast their votes and elect the government of their choice,” Shami told the media. “It is a matter of pride for me that PM Narendra Modi took my name during his speech (in Amroha) and praised me and my game.”
