Messi’s Hat-Trick Breaks MLS Points Record, Secures Club World Cup Berth

Lionel Messi’s brilliance shone through once again as he inspired Inter Miami to a resounding 6-2 victory over New England Revolution, securing a historic MLS regular season points record. The Argentine maestro came off the bench in the 58th minute and proceeded to score a sensational hat-trick within an 11-minute spell, taking his tally to 20 goals in just 19 MLS appearances.

Miami’s triumph was not without its challenges. They found themselves trailing 0-2 before Luis Suarez stepped up with two goals before halftime to level the score. Messi’s introduction proved to be a game-changer. He immediately set up Benjamin Cremaschi for a tap-in goal, before scoring twice himself. His first goal came after a back-heel pass from Suarez, while his second was a clinical finish after a brilliant pass from Jordi Alba. Messi completed his hat-trick with a first-time finish from Suarez’s cross.

The victory not only secured Inter Miami’s place in the MLS playoffs but also broke the MLS regular season points record. They finished the campaign with 74 points, one more than the previous record set by New England in 2021.

In addition to their MLS success, Inter Miami will also participate in the Club World Cup next year. FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced that the club will be the host club representing the United States in the tournament, which will feature 12 teams from Europe, including Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid.

Messi’s performance was a testament to his enduring brilliance. Despite being 35 years old, he continues to produce moments of magic on the pitch. His hat-trick against New England was a reminder of his exceptional talent and his ability to inspire his team to victory.
