PR Sreejesh Embraces New Role as Director of Hockey for SG Pipers
PR Sreejesh, the legendary Indian hockey goalkeeper, has embarked on a new chapter in his career as the Director of Hockey for SG Pipers, the Delhi franchise of the Hockey India League (HIL). After retiring from international hockey following India’s bronze medal triumph at the Tokyo Olympics, Sreejesh has chosen to mentor young players and contribute to the development of Indian hockey.
In an exclusive interview, Sreejesh shared his reasons for not participating in the HIL player auction and his vision for SG Pipers. He emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to young players and the need for an experienced coach like Graham Reid, who has a deep understanding of Indian hockey.
Sreejesh believes that the HIL has the potential to nurture young talent and provide them with invaluable experience. He highlighted the benefits of playing alongside top Indian and foreign players, which can accelerate their growth and maturity.
The SG Pipers team philosophy, according to Sreejesh, will prioritize the development of young players. He aims to create a system that supports their progress and provides them with the necessary guidance. While the team will include a blend of senior and experienced players, the focus will be on fielding a young side.
Sreejesh also emphasized the importance of investing in Indian support staff, including physios and coaches. He believes that by providing them with opportunities to learn and grow, they can ultimately contribute to the success of the national team.
