Gwalior Imposes Prohibitory Orders Ahead of India-Bangladesh T20I Match

Gwalior District Clamps Prohibitory Orders Ahead of India-Bangladesh T20I Match

In a bid to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents during the upcoming T20I cricket match between India and Bangladesh in Gwalior, the district magistrate has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The orders, which will remain in effect until October 7, prohibit protests, circulation of inflammatory material, and gatherings of five or more people.

The decision to impose the prohibitory orders was taken following a call for a ‘Gwalior bandh’ by the Hindu Mahasabha on the day of the match (October 6) and protests by other organizations. The right-wing outfit had demanded the cancellation of the match due to alleged “atrocities” committed against Hindus in Bangladesh.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) noted that various organizations were planning to hold processions, demonstrations, and effigy burning to protest the match. He expressed concern that religious sentiments were being incited and a communal atmosphere was being created through objectionable messages, pictures, and videos on social media platforms.

The prohibitory orders ban any activity that could disrupt the international match or incite religious sentiments. This includes the display of banners, posters, and other materials with inflammatory language or messages. Demonstrations, effigy burning, and gatherings of five or more people are also prohibited.

The use of firearms, blunt and sharp weapons, and inflammable substances within a radius of 200 meters of all buildings is also banned. The administration has deployed around 1,600 policemen for security and traffic management during the match.

The India-Bangladesh T20I clash will be held at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, marking the city’s first international cricket match in 14 years. The match is expected to draw a large crowd, and the authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure a safe and incident-free event.
