Shreyas Iyer Ruled Out of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy Match Due to Shoulder Injury

Shreyas Iyer Ruled Out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy Match Due to Shoulder Injury

Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy campaign has suffered a major setback as star batsman Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the upcoming match against Tripura due to a shoulder injury. The injury comes as a blow to Iyer’s comeback aspirations after a lengthy absence from the game due to a back injury.

Iyer, who scored a century in Mumbai’s last Ranji match against Maharashtra, had expressed concerns about his body’s ability to withstand the rigors of consecutive matches. He emphasized the need to prioritize his physical well-being, stating, “I have to listen to my body because I know the amount of threshold I’ve carried over the last few years.”

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed that Iyer did not travel with the team to Agartala for the Tripura match. The injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for Iyer, who underwent back surgery in London in 2022.

Despite his recent return to form, Iyer has lost his place in the Indian team in both Test and T20 formats. He had hoped to earn a national comeback with strong performances in domestic cricket, but the shoulder injury has put those plans on hold.

Iyer admitted that he had been fearful of his back injury flaring up again, but assured that he had trained extensively to improve his fitness. He also acknowledged that he had been perceived as shirking the longer format, but emphasized that he had addressed that issue by playing seven consecutive first-class matches.

The 29-year-old stressed the importance of managing his body wisely, stating, “I have to be smart in terms of what decisions I make. I need to see to it that my body is in the best shape possible.”

Iyer’s absence will be a significant loss for Mumbai, who are looking to build on their impressive start to the Ranji Trophy season. The team will now have to rely on other batsmen to step up and fill the void left by their star player.

Tayla Vlaeminck Ruled Out of WBBL for Third Consecutive Season

Tayla Vlaeminck Ruled Out of WBBL for Third Consecutive Season

Tayla Vlaeminck, the unlucky Australian and Melbourne Renegades fast bowler, has been ruled out of the WBBL for the third consecutive season due to a shoulder dislocation suffered during the T20 World Cup.

Vlaeminck, 25, dislocated her bowling shoulder just moments into Australia’s World Cup match against Pakistan, her first at a major tournament since 2018. She was subsequently ruled out of the World Cup, and the Renegades confirmed on Friday that she would play no part in the WBBL, which starts next Sunday.

Vlaeminck’s WBBL absence extends back to November 2021, when she played for the Hobart Hurricanes. She signed with the Renegades ahead of the 2022-23 season but has not played a single game due to a string of injuries.

Vlaeminck has dislocated her left shoulder twice. The first occurred while playing for Victoria in the 2017-18 season. During the Australia A tour of England, which coincided with last year’s Women’s Ashes, she dislocated the same shoulder again while bowling, leading to corrective surgery.

Before her Australian debut in 2018, Vlaeminck had undergone two ACL reconstructions. Stress fractures in her foot also forced her to miss the 2020 home T20 World Cup, the 2022 ODI World Cup, the Commonwealth Games later that year, and the 2023 T20 World Cup. Her foot injuries led her to train with professional dancers at the Australian Ballet as part of her rehabilitation.

Vlaeminck’s latest injury is a significant blow to the Renegades, who were hoping to challenge for the WBBL title this season. The team will now have to rely on other bowlers to fill the void left by Vlaeminck’s absence.

Shakib Al Hasan Battles Finger and Shoulder Discomfort, Affecting Bowling Performance

Shakib Al Hasan Battles Finger and Shoulder Discomfort, Affecting Bowling Performance

Former Indian spinner Murali Kartik has shed light on the struggles faced by Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, revealing that he is battling discomfort in his spinning finger and shoulder. This revelation comes after Shakib’s underwhelming performance in the ongoing Test match against India, where he conceded 64 runs in just seven overs.

Kartik, who is currently involved in broadcasting duties for the match, stated that Shakib has undergone finger surgery on his bowling finger. The injury has caused swelling and rigidity, affecting his grip and feel for the ball. Additionally, Shakib is also experiencing shoulder issues, further hindering his bowling ability.

“He has had a finger surgery on his bowling finger, which is the point of his finger of his left hand. It is swollen, it is rigid, there is no movement, no suppleness to it. So he feels he is not getting any feeling out of it. As a spinner, you need the feeling,” Kartik explained.

Shakib’s finger injury dates back to the 50-over World Cup last year, where he sustained a left index finger injury against Sri Lanka. This injury kept him out of action for several months. He also faced an eye problem that delayed his return to the Bangladesh team.

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal expressed concern over Shakib’s injuries, stating that if he is playing despite these issues, Bangladesh is effectively playing with one bowler short. He questioned whether the team management was aware of Shakib’s injuries.

However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr. Debashish denied any knowledge of Shakib experiencing discomfort due to an injury. He acknowledged that Shakib had a fractured finger from the World Cup but stated that he had not recently complained about any finger or shoulder injuries.

Despite the BCB’s denial, Kartik’s revelation raises questions about Shakib’s fitness and the team’s decision to field him in the Test match. With Bangladesh struggling to contain India’s batting lineup, Shakib’s absence as a frontline bowler could prove costly.
