Yuvraj recalled that Flintoff’s provocation began after he hit a couple of boundaries off his bowling. “Freddie bowled two good balls, but I hit them for boundaries. When I was walking after taking a single, he said, ‘F… shit shots,'” Yuvraj revealed on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.

Flintoff’s comments ignited a verbal spat between the two players, forcing the umpire to intervene. “He repeated that on my face. I walked towards him; he kind of spat on me. I showed him my bat, saying that you know where it’s going to go. It went worse after that. Then the umpire came in,” Yuvraj added.

Despite the altercation, Yuvraj remained focused and went on to hit six consecutive sixes off Broad in the same over. However, he admitted that he took more satisfaction from hitting Flintoff for a six. “I hit Freddie for a six, I enjoyed it more (than six sixes),” Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj’s presence in the tournament proved crucial for India’s triumph. His former teammate Sreesanth recently stated that India would not have won the inaugural T20 World Cup without Yuvraj’s contributions. “Without Yuvraj, I don’t think we would have won the World Cup,” Sreesanth said.

With Nottinghamshire at 308 for 5, Sobers strode to the crease and quickly accelerated his innings. As Malcolm Nash, a medium-pace bowler, was surprisingly asked to bowl spin, Sobers seized the opportunity to unleash his power.

Nash’s first delivery was dispatched over long-on for six. The second soared over mid-wicket, the third over long-off, and the fourth over mid-on. The fifth ball was a towering hit that cleared the long-on boundary, but Roger Davis’s attempt to catch it resulted in him falling over the rope with the ball in his hands.

Undeterred, Sobers connected with the sixth ball with such force that it sailed over the pavilion roof. The crowd erupted in thunderous applause as Sobers completed his historic six sixes.

Over the years, only a handful of other players have managed to replicate Sobers’ feat in recognized competitive cricket. The feat, achieved during the semifinal of the Navio Youth Trophy U-22 Cricket Tournament, follows a similar accomplishment by Andhra opener Vamshhi Krrishna just a week earlier.

Playing for Masters CC, Thiruvananthapuram, Abijith faced leg-spinner Joe Francis from Trident Cricket Academy, Thrissur, in the 21st over of the match. With the score already at 69, Abijith unleashed a barrage of sixes that cleared the boundary with ease. The first two balls sailed over long-off, while the third soared over deep mid-wicket. The fourth and fifth deliveries were deposited over cow corner and long-on, respectively, as Abijith raced to 105 by the end of the over.

However, Abijith’s pursuit of another six proved costly as he was caught at long-on by Abhiram off the bowling of Akshay TK. His innings of 106 came from just 52 balls and featured 10 sixes and two fours. Masters CC went on to win the match by 106 runs.

A native of Pachalloor in Thiruvananthapuram, Abijith expressed his elation at reaching his century with a six. “I have hit five sixes in an over before, but to hit six maximums is a dream come true,” he said. “After I connected the first two, I felt I should go for it. Luckily, I timed each shot perfectly. I still get goosebumps when I think of the moment.”

Abijith, who cites Ab de Villiers and Hardik Pandya as his role models, is an allrounder who bowls medium pace. He made his List A debut for Kerala last December against Sikkim in the Vijay Hazare one-day tournament, claiming three wickets but not getting an opportunity to bat.

Biju George, fielding coach of Delhi Capitals, under whom Abijith trains at the SAI Medical College ground in Thiruvananthapuram, praised his ward’s remarkable achievement. “He has strong hands, and his shots go a long distance,” George said. “His six-hitting technique is simple but mighty effective. I knew Abi could pull off something like this, and I am happy for him. I hope someone recognizes his power hitting and gives him a much bigger platform to showcase his talent in the coming days.”
