Manu Bhaker Abandons Event After Question About Neeraj Chopra Video
Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker abruptly departed an event in Chennai on Wednesday following a reporter’s question to her mother regarding a viral video of her conversing with javelin star Neeraj Chopra during the Paris Olympics 2024.
Bhaker, 22, attended a felicitation ceremony at Chennai’s Velammal Nexus School. Earlier this month, two videos from Paris sparked online speculation, one depicting Chopra in conversation with Bhaker and the other showing him interacting with her mother.
In the latter clip, Sumedha Bhaker holds Chopra’s hand while they engage in an animated discussion. The video garnered over a million views on social media, prompting fans to suggest a potential romantic connection between Bhaker and Chopra.
At the Chennai event, Bhaker answered questions from journalists. However, when a reporter inquired about wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification and the CAS verdict on her appeal, another reporter interjected with a question for Bhaker’s mother about her conversation with Chopra.
This question reportedly prompted Bhaker to leave the event. Last week, her father, Ram Kishan Bhaker, stated that she is “still too young” and they are “not thinking of her marriage.”
Bhaker made history at the Paris Olympics 2024 by becoming the first Indian athlete post-Independence to win two medals in a single edition of the Games. Chopra, on the other hand, won a silver medal in men’s javelin, three years after his gold medal in Tokyo.
