The Tennis Premier League (TPL), a highly anticipated tennis tournament, has announced its player auction results, with Rohan Bopanna and Sumit Nagal emerging as key acquisitions for the Delhi Tigers and Gujarat Panthers, respectively.

The auction, held on Wednesday, saw all eight participating teams select three leading players each. The remaining roster spots will be filled in due course for the TPL, scheduled to take place at the CCI courts in Mumbai from December 3 to 8.

The TPL has attracted a star-studded lineup, including tennis legends Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Sania Mirza. Their presence at the auction added a touch of nostalgia and excitement to the proceedings. Bollywood celebrities Rakul Preet Singh and Sonali Bendre also graced the event, lending their glamour to the occasion.

“It was fantastic to see the tennis legends Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Sania Mirza gather together after so many years, to promote tennis in India and support the league,” said Kunal Thakkur, one of the organizers.

Mrunal Jain, co-founder of TPL, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, “The TPL has got off to a memorable start with the auction and promises an exciting season ahead.”

The team rosters are as follows:

* Hyderabad Strikers: Harriet Dart, Benjamin Lock, Vishnu Vardhan
* Chennai Smashers: Hugo Gaston, Conny Perrin, Rithvik Bollipalli
* Bengaluru SG Pipers: Max Purcell, Ankita Raina, Anirudh Chandrasekar
* Mumbai Eagles: Jaqueline Cristian, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, Karan Singh
* Gujarat Panthers: Sumit Nagal, Sahaja Yamalapalli, Vijay Sundar Prashanth
* Delhi Tigers: Rohan Bopanna, Iryna Shymanovich, Aziz Dougaz
* Punjab Patriots: Elina Avanesyan, Arjun Kadhe, S Mukund

The league will be held at the prestigious Cricket Club of India (CCI), a venue that has witnessed some of the most iconic tennis matches in history.

TPL 2024 will feature a star-studded lineup, including world-renowned players such as France’s Hugo Gaston (World No. 61) and India’s Sumit Nagal (World No. 74). In the women’s draw, Poland’s Magda Linette (World No. 41) and Armenia’s Elina Avanesyan (World No. 52) will be among the top attractions.

The league’s unique 25-point format has captured the imagination of tennis fans, bringing the sport to a wider audience in an entertaining and engaging way. Each match between two franchises consists of Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles, and Men’s Doubles, with 100 points at stake. The sixth edition of the Tennis Premier League (TPL) is set to enthrall tennis enthusiasts from December 3-8 at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai. The tournament will feature a star-studded lineup, with Indian ace Sumit Nagal and France’s Hugo Gaston headlining the men’s category. Poland’s Magda Linette, ranked 41st in the world, and Armenia’s Elina Avanesyan, ranked 52nd, will lead the women’s field.

The TPL will adopt a 25-point format, with each franchise playing five matches to qualify for the semifinals. Each match will comprise men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, and men’s doubles, with a total of 100 points at stake. The top four teams in the points table will advance to the semifinals.

Seven franchises will compete for the coveted title: PBG Pune Jaguars, Bengal Wizards, Punjab Patriots, Hyderabad Strikers, Gujarat Panthers, Mumbai Leon Army, and defending champions Bengaluru SG Pipers.

To foster young talent, the TPL has partnered with the Gujarat State Tennis Association (GSTA), Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA), and Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) to conduct district ranking tournaments. The league has also launched its own mobile app to connect the tennis community across India and track player progress.

The TPL aims to promote tennis at the grassroots level and provide a platform for aspiring players to showcase their skills. The tournament is expected to attract a large audience and generate excitement among tennis fans across the country.
