India's Fearless Approach Leads to Success in South Africa T20I Series

India’s Fearless Approach Leads to Success in South Africa T20I Series

India’s stand-in head coach V.V.S. Laxman has praised his team’s fearless approach in the ongoing T20I series against South Africa. India currently leads the four-match series 2-1, with the final match scheduled to be played later today at the Wanderers.

Laxman believes that the team’s fearless attitude has been a key factor in their success. “What we have seen in these three matches is the fearless approach of this team,” he said during a reception hosted for the Indian team in Johannesburg.

Laxman also emphasized the importance of entertaining the fans along with winning matches. “During any tours to any foreign country, we play and try to entertain the crowd. And we always feel that we are playing at home,” he said.

The Indian team has received tremendous support from the Indian community in South Africa. Laxman acknowledged this support, saying, “The reason for that is all the wonderful fans of the Indian cricket team – the diaspora of India who settled down in various countries but still love the Indian team and the Indian cricketers.”

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav echoed Laxman’s sentiments, saying, “It’s always good to meet the Indian community when we come away from home. It makes us feel like we are at home.”

Indian Consul General Mahesh Kumar highlighted the long-standing cricket relations between India and South Africa, dating back over a century. He expressed hope that the two countries would continue to collaborate in the future.

Chairman of Cricket South Africa Pearl Maphoshe made a plea for the Indian squad to return to South Africa in 2025. “We cannot have enough of Indian teams in South Africa. We really love you,” he said.

James Anderson Registers for IPL Auction to Enhance Knowledge and Coaching Skills

England’s legendary pace bowler James Anderson has made a surprising move by registering for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. The 42-year-old, who retired from international cricket earlier this year as the most successful fast bowler in Test history, is seeking to expand his knowledge and experience in the world’s biggest T20 league.

Anderson, known as the “Burnley Express,” has never played a T20 match in the IPL. His last T20 appearance was for his county side Lancashire in August 2014, while his final T20 international for England came in November 2009. Despite his lack of IPL experience, Anderson believes he has much to offer as a player and coach.

“There is still definitely something in me that thinks like I can still play. I have never done the IPL; I have never experienced it and I think for a number of reasons I feel like I have more to give as a player,” Anderson told BBC Radio 4 Today in a podcast.

Anderson’s primary motivation for joining the IPL is to enhance his knowledge as a bowler and gain valuable experience as a coach. He has already begun mentoring young England players and believes that the IPL will provide him with a unique opportunity to learn from the best in the world.

“I have done a little bit of coaching since I have finished in the summer. I have been around the England team doing a bit of mentoring or whatever you like to call it,” he said. “I just think opening my eyes to something like that and experiencing it, sort of might help me grow my knowledge of the game and help further down the line.”

Anderson’s decision to register for the IPL auction has raised eyebrows, but it is a testament to his unwavering passion for the game. Despite his age, he remains one of the most respected and experienced bowlers in the world. His presence in the IPL could prove invaluable for any team that acquires his services.

India Shatters T20I Record, Scores Massive 297 against Bangladesh

India Shatters T20I Record, Scores Massive 297 against Bangladesh

Indian Batters Unleash Fury, Smash Record Total in T20I against Bangladesh

Hyderabad, October 12, 2024: The Indian cricket team put on a batting masterclass in the third and final T20I against Bangladesh, amassing a mammoth 297 for 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The total is the second-highest in T20I history, behind only Nepal’s 314 for 3 against Mongolia in the 2023 Asian Games.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, India’s openers got off to a solid start. However, Abhishek Sharma departed early for 4, leaving Sanju Samson and captain Suryakumar Yadav to take charge. The duo unleashed a flurry of boundaries and sixes, punishing the Bangladesh bowlers at will.

Samson was in particularly devastating form, smashing 111 off just 47 deliveries. His innings included 10 fours and 7 sixes. Yadav, not to be outdone, contributed 75 off 35 balls, with 6 fours and 5 sixes.

After the departure of Samson and Yadav, Riyan Parag (34 off 13) and Hardik Pandya (47 off 18) continued the onslaught. Parag played a cameo, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes, while Pandya’s innings was equally explosive, with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Bangladesh’s bowlers were unable to contain the Indian batters, with Mahmudullah (1 for 26), Mustafizur Rahman (1 for 51), and Tazim Hasan Sakib (3 for 66) being the only wicket-takers.

India’s previous highest score in T20Is was 260 for 5 against Sri Lanka in 2017. The 297-run total is a testament to the team’s batting prowess and sets a new benchmark for T20I cricket.

Virat Kohli's Consistency Sets Him Apart from Babar Azam, Says Pakistan Legend Zaheer Abbas

Virat Kohli’s Consistency Sets Him Apart from Babar Azam, Says Pakistan Legend Zaheer Abbas

Pakistan cricket legend Zaheer Abbas has dismissed comparisons between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam, asserting that Kohli’s unmatched consistency sets him apart from the underperforming Pakistani batter.

Abbas, once hailed as part of the “Fab Five” alongside Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson, expressed his disappointment with Babar’s recent slump in form. “These comparisons are pointless,” Abbas stated. “Virat Kohli scores in every match, while the other player (Babar) doesn’t score in any match. So how can you compare them? The person who scores is the bigger player.”

Kohli boasts an impressive 80 international centuries, while the younger Babar has scored 31 centuries across formats. Abbas also praised India’s overall consistency, predicting that the Rohit Sharma-led team will be a strong contender for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

“The Indian team is very good,” Abbas said. “Their batters are doing well, and the bowlers are both good. It’s a very balanced team that plays thoughtfully.”

“They have a very good captain who understands cricket very well,” he added. “When everything is going in your favor, it’s smooth sailing. That’s the case with India right now.”

Abbas believes that Test cricket remains the true test of a player’s character, resilience, mental strength, technique, and consistency. “Test cricket is real cricket,” he emphasized. “It’s the real test of any player, bowler. At one point, India and Pakistan’s Test teams used to be good. And now the boards are realizing that we can’t go on without Test cricket.”

“How many T20s can you play? How many white-ball tournaments can the ICC organize? Maybe 2 or 3, but in the end, you have to return to ODI or Tests,” Abbas said. “If you continue Test cricket, the cricket will last longer. I know people like to get results fast, but slowly they will get bored of T20s, and we need Tests and ODIs.”

Abbas expressed concern over the increasing number of players turning down central contracts to focus on T20 franchise leagues. “Test cricket is ultimate,” he said. “Anyone can win in T20. Teams can win by fluke. But that’s not the case in Test cricket as it has two innings. You have the scope to do well in one innings. Test cricket teaches you a lot.”

“I know a lot of the players don’t want to play Test cricket and play T20 instead. That needs to be stopped,” Abbas urged. “They need to come up with something… Something like you have to play at least 5 or 6 Test matches a year, then you can play ODI or T20s. Every year, a minimum number of Test matches need to be allotted.”

Pakistan’s recent Test series loss to Bangladesh was a major setback, according to Abbas. “It was a huge setback that Pakistan lost to Bangladesh,” he said. “We never thought that not only Pakistan will lose but it will lose so bad.”

“Pakistan cricket is not doing great,” Abbas admitted. “The performance has dropped. I am hopeful that it will get better. The reasons behind this are many.”

“It happens, the West Indies used to be the best in the world, that’s not the case now,” Abbas said. “But I’m hopeful that Pakistan cricket returns to the top, the boys are working hard.”

Abbas also urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to address the growing rivalry between Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi. “Yes, there have been rivalries in the Pakistan teams in the past, but the board should take note of the rivalry between Babar and Shaheen fast,” he said. “The faster the better because it will keep on escalating.”

“Rivalry is good, but it should not become serious, if it does, it harms the team,” Abbas warned.

Sandeep Sharma Emphasizes Composure and Execution in Death Bowling

Sandeep Sharma Emphasizes Composure and Execution in Death Bowling

Rajasthan Royals’ medium pacer Sandeep Sharma has emphasized the importance of composure and execution when bowling at the death in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. After recording the best bowling performance of the season with a remarkable 5 for 18 against Mumbai Indians, Sharma shared his insights on the challenges of bowling in the final overs.

“In this year’s IPL, batters are going big, and with the impact player rule, there’s an extra batter, so the games are high-scoring. You have to have a big heart while bowling at the death and try to execute your plans and bowl good balls,” Sharma said after RR’s nine-wicket win over MI.

Sharma, who initially started as a new-ball exponent in the IPL, has been entrusted with the responsibility of bowling the death overs by the Royals in the three games he has played this season. “Even today, you ask me where I feel comfortable, I’ll say it’s with the new ball. With the old ball, you have to adapt and evolve as a bowler,” he said.

Sharma returned to the RR playing XI after recovering from a side strain that kept him out for close to a month. “I was working hard towards my fitness for the last three weeks. I had two practice sessions before the game, my main focus was to execute the variations that I did tonight.”

Against MI, Sharma’s scalps included the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, the big-hitting Tim David, Ishan Kishan, and Gerald Coetzee. He took three wickets in the final over, restricting MI to 179 despite a 99-run stand between Varma and Nehal Wadhera.

“If you’re bowling at the death, it can go both ways. Sometimes, you go for runs, and when you’re lucky enough, you end up getting a wicket. When we started, the wicket was low and slow. My plan was to keep bowling those cutters, and it came off nicely tonight,” he said.

Despite the loss to RR, Mumbai Indians remain optimistic about their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. Young batter Nehal Wadhera expressed confidence in the team’s ability to turn things around.

“MI need to win all their games from here, and we need to tighten our socks. We need to raise our game and figure out where we have been going wrong or where we have been going right so that we can rectify our mistakes whenever we return,” Wadhera said after the match.

The 23-year-old, who smashed a splendid 24-ball 49, pointed out that MI are not new to being involved in a mid-table muddle, having risen from the proverbial ashes time and again.

“We have been in such a situation in earlier seasons as well, and we have, you know, upped our game from there and qualified. So, we are optimistic even right now. We will continue the process we are following and win the games for the team. We win as a team, and we lose as a team,” Wadhera added.

Nitish Reddy's Transformation Fuels Sunrisers' Victory

Nitish Reddy’s Transformation Fuels Sunrisers’ Victory

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abdul Samad has lauded Nitish Kumar Reddy’s remarkable transformation in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Reddy’s batting has evolved significantly, showcasing a more aggressive and unconventional approach compared to last year.

In Sunrisers’ two-run victory over Punjab Kings, Reddy played a pivotal role with a maiden IPL fifty (64 off 37 balls), featuring four boundaries and five sixes. Samad attributed Reddy’s success to his improved practice performances and the team’s confidence in his abilities.

“Last year, Nitish was not batting like this. He used to play conventional shots. This time, he has become completely different,” Samad said at the post-match press conference. “I think he has practiced very well. And he had a very good impact in our practice matches as well. So, everyone was very impressed with him. That’s why we are backing him.”

Samad also highlighted the importance of Reddy’s promotion to the No. 4 batting position, which allowed him to carry the momentum from his previous match against Chennai Super Kings.

“I think he has been promoted (from No. 6 to No. 4) today (on Tuesday) to carry the confidence of the last game (vs. Chennai Super Kings). And everyone had confidence in him that he will deliver today.”

Despite the close finish, Samad believes that Sunrisers could have won more comfortably had they held onto two crucial catches in the final over.

“We thought the match was a bit close because we missed two catches. Otherwise, we would have won the match by 15 runs or so.”

Samad also acknowledged the contributions of openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who have consistently provided Sunrisers with solid starts.

“When you get a start of 70-80 runs in the PowerPlay, then it becomes easy for you. So, that is helping us a lot in winning the match.”

Dinesh Karthik Delighted with IPL Opener Performance Despite Limited Preparation

Dinesh Karthik Delighted with IPL Opener Performance Despite Limited Preparation

Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has expressed his satisfaction with his performance in the IPL opener despite limited game and preparation time due to his commentary commitments. Since the last IPL, the only competitive cricket Karthik played was in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was on air during the recently concluded India-England Test series and admitted that finding training time in between his commentary duties was challenging.

Karthik, who is playing his last IPL, made an unbeaten 38 off 26 balls to help RCB recover to 173 for six against CSK on Friday night. By his own admission, he was rusty in the middle. “It’s been extremely challenging, doing a bit of commentary and to keep practicing cricket between Test matches and in between the time that I get, it’s been a lot of hard work,” Karthik told reporters after the game. “So, I am happy that Game 1 has gone positively for me, and it feels good to score some runs.”

The 38-year-old is hoping that play-offs happen at his home ground here and he can return to Chepauk to play his last IPL game. “Time will tell, I guess. I genuinely wish it’s not because the last couple of (playoff) games will be here, so I could be back for that, which could then be my last (here),” he said when asked if it could be last game in Chennai.

Defending champions CSK was able to chase down 174 comfortably on a good batting track. CSK pacer Mustafizur Rahman produced his best IPL figures of 4-29 to make the difference. Karthik was all praise for the left-arm pacer from Bangladesh. “He bowled brilliantly. He showed his skills in all the three spells,” he reckoned. “He is bowling a lot quicker than he normally does and hits the right lengths. The slower balls came out well. It was a very good pitch. Not the usual slow Chepauk turner that we are visualising in our mind. The ball skid on a lot more, and it was good for batting, and he (Rahman) bowled well. What makes it tough is that he can bowl at 138/139 (kmph), and then he has a slower one, which is very deceptive. And he bowls it at 121/125 (km/h), which makes it hard to line him up.

For RCB, Anuj Rawat was the top scorer with 48 and his 95-run stand with Karthik allowed the team to post a fighting total. “I couldn’t be happier for him. He has been a part of this team for two years, and people can see how much talent he has. The ball flies off his bat. He has got great bat speed and is a strong boy. He works hard at the nets,” said Karthik. “The last two years haven’t exactly panned out. Last year, he showed towards the end how good he is, but today (Friday), he showed what skills he has got. I just wish he keeps continuing this form because he is a key player for us. A left-arm hander through the middle and hits the long ball with a lot of power. So, it’s great to see him do so well,” he added.
