God of Sports Expert Verdict on Victor A391 Badminton Shoes:
- Victor A391 Badminton Shoes justifies its position in Victor’s India range by delivering five genuine technology additions over the A301 IN and A230: ENERGYMAX+ is a stronger-formulation ENERGYMAX compound with better elasticity and rebound. TPU arch support replaces the Nylon Sheet — TPU is a more active stability element providing structured arch support rather than just torsional resistance. Double Mesh provides significantly better foot ventilation than single Mesh, important for extended sessions in India’s warm playing conditions. The Radiation outsole pattern (asterisk-centre with triangular shapes) provides grip for both lateral sliding and vertical jump landing movements. V-Durable inner toe coating extends the shoe’s practical lifespan at the highest-wear zone.
- The Blue colourway is the stronger performer in GA4 data — 1,665 views and 184 key events versus the Black’s 2,069 views but only 63 key events. Blue converts at 16% while Black converts at only 4.4%. This suggests the Blue colourway has a stronger buyer base and clearer intent. Both colourways are identical in construction.
- For wide-footed players who have been using A301 IN or A230 and are ready for a performance step-up — more breathability, better outsole grip, active arch support — Victor A391 Badminton Shoes delivers all of that in the same U-Shape 3.0 fit they are already comfortable in.
Technology Breakdown of Victor A391 Badminton Shoes:
- ENERGYMAX+ — Enhanced Formulation Over Standard ENERGYMAX : ENERGYMAX+ is a strengthened version of Victor’s ENERGYMAX compound — better elasticity and rebound than the standard ENERGYMAX in the A301 IN and A230. During badminton’s high-impact movements (jump landings, lateral lunges, rapid direction changes), the enhanced ENERGYMAX+ compound absorbs force more effectively and rebounds faster, returning more energy to assist push-off into the next movement. This improves the in-session feel — more responsive underfoot than standard ENERGYMAX across extended play. Note: ENERGYMAX+ is an improvement over standard ENERGYMAX but below the full ENERGYMAX3.0 formulation used in the A880 and A970TD IN.
- TPU Arch Support — Active Stability Over Nylon Sheet : Where the A301 IN and A230 use a Nylon Sheet for passive torsional resistance, Victor A391 Badminton Shoes uses a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) arch support element. TPU provides more active arch support than the Nylon Sheet — it has structural rigidity that directly resists the inward rolling force during lateral lunges (pronation) and provides more responsive arch loading. For players with flat feet or those who experience arch fatigue during extended sessions, TPU is a meaningful upgrade over the Nylon Sheet’s more passive stabilisation.
- Double Mesh Upper + Radiation Outsole : Double Mesh in the upper provides significantly better foot ventilation than single Mesh — more mesh area, more airflow, better heat dissipation during India’s warm playing conditions. Extended sessions that produce foot sweating and heat buildup are more comfortably managed with Double Mesh. The Radiation outsole pattern — asterisk-centre surrounded by triangular shapes — provides grip for both lateral movement (sliding into position) and vertical movement (jump landing) simultaneously. This multi-directional grip profile is more versatile than purely lateral herringbone patterns.
- V-Durable Toe + BREATHING + U-Shape 3.0 : V-Durable at the inner toe provides protective coating and a wear-resistant layer — extending the shoe’s lifespan at the zone most affected by toe-drag during forward lunges. BREATHING is the dedicated ventilation mesh layer promoting airflow and heat dissipation. Together with Double Mesh these provide comprehensive foot climate management for long sessions. U-Shape 3.0 maintains the wide-fit comfort of the A301 IN and A230 at this upgraded tier — wide-footed players upgrading from either shoe will find the same forefoot accommodation.
Shoe Finder — Is Victor A391 Badminton Shoes Right for You?
Regular Club Player (3–4x Per Week) Wanting Mid-Range Performance : You play regularly at club level and want a shoe that matches your commitment — more breathable, more durable, and better-gripping than entry-level, without moving to the HYPEREVA-tier A880’s price, Victor A391 Badminton Shoes is the right mid-range club shoe. Double Mesh breathability handles extended sessions. V-Durable toe extends lifespan for regular players. ENERGYMAX+ and TPU provide better in-session performance. Victor A391 Badminton Shoes provides genuine mid-range performance at a more accessible price point.
Wide-Footed Player Who Found Standard Shoes Uncomfortable : You have wide feet and have previously experienced forefoot pressure and discomfort in standard-width badminton shoes. You want proper wide-fit court performance at the mid-range level, U-Shape 3.0 at mid-range level — rare combination. Most mid-range shoes use standard or slightly wide lasts. Victor A391 Badminton Shoes maintains U-Shape 3.0 — wide comfort with ENERGYMAX+, TPU, Double Mesh, and Radiation outsole. For wide-footed players wanting more than entry level, the Victor A391 Badminton Shoes is the natural next step before the HYPEREVA tier.
Foot Health & Shoe Selection Guide for Victor A391 Badminton Shoes:
-
Flat Feet (Fallen Arch / Overpronation):
- What it is : Low or absent arch causing the inner foot to roll inward excessively during lateral lunges — straining the ankle, knee, and shin over time.
- Look for : Arch support · Firm midsole (soft cushioning worsens overpronation) · Wide stable base · Torsion stabiliser · Removable insole for orthotics · Firm heel counter.
- Victor A391 Badminton Shoes for Flat Feet : Good match — better than A301 IN for this condition. The TPU arch support provides more active resistance to inward rolling during lateral lunges than the Nylon Sheet. ENERGYMAX+ provides firm-yet-responsive cushioning. For mild-to-moderate flat feet, the A391’s TPU is a genuine improvement over entry-level stabilisers. For moderate-to-severe overpronation, add an aftermarket arch insole to the removable slot. For severe cases, the P8500 TD IN’s TPU ASYS provides the most comprehensive structural support.
-
High Arch (Underpronation / Supination):
- What it is : Rigid, pronounced arch causing outward foot rolling. Places excess pressure on heel and ball of foot, increasing ankle sprain risk during lateral movement.
- Look for : High cushioning for poor natural shock absorption · Neutral/curved last (not motion-control) · Flexible midsole · Cushioned insole.
- Victor A391 Badminton Shoes for High Arch:Good match. ENERGYMAX+ provides responsive cushioning for high arch shock absorption needs. TPU is more structured than Nylon Sheet, but the A391’s overall construction is flexible enough to accommodate the rigid high-arched foot without excessive rigidity. A cushioned aftermarket insole enhances comfort. For significant high arch, consult a podiatrist.
-
Plantar Fasciitis (Heel and Arch Pain):
- What it is : Inflammation of the plantar fascia. Sharp morning heel pain. Common when playing frequency increases suddenly or in poor footwear.
- Look for : Firm arch support · Heel cushioning · Firm heel counter · Slight heel-to-toe drop · Avoid flat/zero-drop shoes · Removable insole slot.
- Victor A391 Badminton Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis : Good match — better than A230 for this condition. TPU arch support limits arch flex reducing plantar fascia loading, ENERGYMAX+ heel cushioning absorbs impact. For active plantar fasciitis, pair with a heel cushion insert and seek physiotherapy. Rest required for established PF.
-
Wide Feet — Forefoot Discomfort:
- What it is : Standard-width lasts create pressure on the toes and forefoot — causing discomfort, blisters, and black toenails. Very common among Indian players.
- Look for : Wide-fit last (U-Shape 3.0, 2E, 4E) · Rounded toe box · Sufficient forefoot volume · Length so toes don’t jam during deep lunges.
- Victor A391 Badminton Shoes for Wide Feet : Excellent match. U-Shape 3.0 wide-fit last — the same comfortable wide accommodation as A301 IN and A230, now with ENERGYMAX+, TPU, and Double Mesh added. Wide-footed players upgrading from A301 IN or A230 maintain the same forefoot comfort in the Victor A391 Badminton Shoes. The Blue colourway is particularly popular among wide-footed players based on GA4 conversion data.

FAQ's
The A391 adds five genuine technology improvements over the A301 IN: ENERGYMAX+ (stronger formulation vs standard ENERGYMAX), TPU arch support (more active than the Nylon Sheet’s passive stabilisation), Double Mesh upper (better breathability than single Mesh), Radiation outsole pattern (multi-directional grip vs standard rubber), and V-Durable inner toe protection (absent in A301 IN). Both use U-Shape 3.0 wide-fit last. At ₹7,290 vs ₹4,200, the A391’s price premium reflects real, tangible additions.
ENERGYMAX+ is an improved formulation of Victor’s standard ENERGYMAX compound — stronger elasticity and better rebound than standard ENERGYMAX used in the A301 IN and A230. ENERGYMAX3.0 (used in the A880 and A970TD IN) is a further, more significant upgrade with 22% more rebound than standard EVA and 6% better shock absorption. The hierarchy is: standard ENERGYMAX (A301 IN, A230) < ENERGYMAX+ (A391) < ENERGYMAX3.0 (A880, A970TD IN). The A391 sits genuinely in the middle.
The non-marking rubber outsole and U-Shape 3.0 last make the A391 suitable for most indoor court sports including squash. The Radiation outsole provides multi-directional grip relevant to squash’s movement patterns. However, the A391 is optimised for badminton’s specific movement demands — squash-specific shoes typically feature more aggressive outsole patterns and higher heel cushioning for the wall-driven movements of squash. For occasional squash use the A391 is adequate; for dedicated squash play, a squash-specific shoe is preferable.
Both are mid-range wide-fit All-Around shoes with U-Shape 3.0 lasts, but with different midsole technology: A391 uses EVA + ENERGYMAX+ + TPU at ₹7,290; A830 IV uses Light Resilient EVA + ENERGYMAX3.0 + Carbon Power at a higher price point. The A830 IV’s Light Resilient EVA + ENERGYMAX3.0 + Carbon Power is a more technically advanced midsole than the A391’s ENERGYMAX+. The A830 IV also adds V-Tough toe protection (above A391’s V-Durable) and Radiation natural rubber outsole. If both prices are comparable at GOS, the A830 IV delivers a technically stronger midsole; if the A391 is significantly lower priced, it provides excellent value for its construction tier.
