God of Sports Expert Verdict on Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes:
- Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes occupies a specific and important position in Victor’s India lineup: it is the All-Around flagship — the highest-performing balanced court shoe available before crossing into the A970ACE’s premium tier. Where the P8500 TD IN prioritises stability and support above other considerations, Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes achieves a different balance: high-rebound cushioning, active arch support, and professional grip in a package that is lighter and more agility-friendly.
- The HYPEREVA + ENERGYMAX3.0 combination is the same dual-layer high-rebound core as the P8500 TD IN, but without the additional Carbon Power torsional layer and 3D Tri-Claw superstructure. This means lighter weight and more natural foot flex during explosive footwork — the defining characteristic of an All-Around shoe vs a Support shoe. The TPU arch support at the heel prevents pronation and torsional strain, and the heel protection tab provides Achilles support — both rare features at this price tier in the India market.
- For players who want genuine professional-grade cushioning and court grip in an All-Around construction, without the additional weight of the Support series, Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes is the natural choice within Victor’s India range.
Technology Breakdown of Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes:
- HYPEREVA — Flagship Lightweight Cushioning : Victor’s most advanced midsole compound. 22% more rebound than standard EVA, 19% weight reduction, 5% more flexibility, 16% better durability. HYPEREVA is what makes the A970TD IN lighter and more responsive than predecessor models — the cushioning works harder per gram of material. Independent testing described it as providing noticeably more padding and cushioning than Yonex’s Power Cushion 65 while maintaining good court feel.
- ENERGYMAX3.0 — Rebound Layer : Added to HYPEREVA to form the dual-rebound core. ENERGYMAX3.0 provides a further 22% rebound increase and 6% shock absorption improvement. The combination creates a midsole that rapidly returns energy to the foot after each landing — supporting quick consecutive movements without the foot fatigue that lower-rebound constructions produce over a long session.
- TPU Arch Support — Pronation Prevention : High-strength lightweight thermoplastic (TPU) positioned at the arch to prevent inward rolling (pronation) and torsional strain during lateral lunges. Keeps the foot in a more neutral position through intensive footwork, reducing arch fatigue and ankle loading. The heel TPU also contributes to the slight heel elevation that supports the Achilles tendon.
- Heel Protection Tab + VSR Rubber : The heel protection tab at the back of the shoe provides a structured support element above the heel collar that protects the Achilles during rearward lunges and helps seat the heel firmly in the shoe during forward movement. VSR Rubber outsole provides 21% better grip on dry PU courts vs standard rubber — the dominant indoor surface in Indian clubs.
Shoe Finder — Is Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes Right for You?
- Serious Intermediate / Club Competitor : You play competitively at club level 3–5 sessions per week and want a shoe that matches your performance level — better cushioning and grip than entry or mid-range, without the full weight of the Support series, then Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes is the All-Around flagship for this profile. HYPEREVA + ENERGYMAX3.0 provides professional-grade cushioning. VSR grip matches court demands. The balance of performance and agility is exactly suited to intensive club play without tournament-level stability requirements.
-
Player With Achilles or Heel Discomfort : You have experienced mild Achilles or heel discomfort from previous shoes and want a shoe with rear-foot support and Achilles protection built in, heel protection tab of Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes is specifically designed for this. The heel protection tab provides structured Achilles support uncommon at this price tier. The HYPEREVA heel cushioning and TPU heel element additionally reduce impact and torsional loading at the heel.
Foot Health & Shoe Selection Guide for Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes:
-
Flat Feet (Fallen Arch / Overpronation):
- What it is: Low or absent arch causing the inner foot to roll inward excessively during lateral lunges — straining the ankle, knee, and shin over time.
- Look for: Arch support · Firm midsole (soft cushioning worsens overpronation) · Wide stable base · Torsion stabiliser · Removable insole for orthotics · Firm heel counter.
- Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes for Flat Feet : Good match. The TPU arch support prevents pronation and torsional strain during lateral lunges — the primary concern for flat-footed players. The HYPEREVA midsole provides good cushioning without being overly soft. For moderate-to-severe flat feet, pair with an aftermarket arch support insole. For severe overpronation with ankle/knee history, also consider the P8500 TD IN which adds Carbon Power torsional rigidity for additional support.
-
High Arch (Underpronation / Supination):
- What it is: Rigid, pronounced arch causing outward foot rolling. Places excess pressure on heel and ball of foot, increasing ankle sprain risk during lateral movement.
- Look for: High cushioning for poor natural shock absorption · Neutral/curved last (not motion-control) · Flexible midsole · Cushioned insole.
- Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes for High Arch : Good match. The HYPEREVA + ENERGYMAX3.0 dual cushioning addresses the high-arched foot’s need for good shock absorption. The midsole is more flexible than the P8500’s Carbon Power construction — better suited to high-arched feet that need cushioning without added rigidity. A cushioned aftermarket insole enhances the cushioning layer further. For significant high arch with ankle sprain history, consult a podiatrist.
-
Plantar Fasciitis (Heel and Arch Pain):
- What it is: Inflammation of the plantar fascia. Sharp morning heel pain. Common when playing frequency increases suddenly or in poor footwear.
- Look for: Firm arch support · Heel cushioning · Firm heel counter · Slight heel-to-toe drop · Avoid flat/zero-drop shoes · Removable insole slot.
- Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis : Good match. The TPU arch support and HYPEREVA heel cushioning address key PF risk factors. The heel protection tab also contributes to rear-foot stability. For active plantar fasciitis, pair with a heel cushion insert. Physiotherapy, rest, and calf stretching are required alongside footwear changes for established PF — the shoe alone is not a treatment.
-
Heel Pain & Achilles Tendon Issues:
- What it is: Pain at the back or underside of the heel from Achilles tendinopathy, heel spurs, or plantar fasciitis. Common in players suddenly increasing session frequency.
- Look for: Padded heel cup · Slight heel-to-toe drop · Firm heel counter · Padded heel collar at Achilles insertion · Avoid very flat/flexible heel areas.
- Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes for Heel / Achilles Pain : Strong match — the heel protection tab is specifically designed for Achilles support. The TPU heel element and HYPEREVA heel cushioning additionally reduce loading. For mild-to-moderate heel discomfort when increasing training frequency, the A970TD IN is one of the better-designed shoes in Victor’s range for this concern. For established Achilles tendinopathy, see a physiotherapist.
-
Wide Feet — Forefoot Discomfort:
- What it is: Standard-width lasts create pressure on the toes and forefoot — causing discomfort, blisters, and black toenails. Very common among Indian players.
- Look for: Wide-fit last (U-Shape) · Rounded toe box · Sufficient forefoot volume · Length so toes don’t jam during deep lunges.
- Victor A970 TD IN Badminton Shoes for Wide Feet : Moderate match. U-Shape 2.5 is standard-to-slightly-wide — wider than a standard D last but narrower than the U-Shape 3.0 in the A301 IN and P8500 TD IN. Most Indian players will find U-Shape 2.5 comfortable. Players with significantly wide feet (who required U-Shape 3.0 in other shoes) may find the 2.5 slightly snug at the forefoot — try before buying if possible.

FAQ's
The heel protection tab is a structured support element at the back of the shoe that sits above the heel collar and cups the Achilles tendon area. It provides two functions: reducing direct pressure on the Achilles tendon during rearward lunges (where the shoe’s heel collar can dig into the Achilles on extension), and helping to seat the heel more firmly in the shoe during forward movement. It is uncommon at this price tier and is one of the A970TD IN’s most distinctive features for players with Achilles sensitivity.
U-Shape 2.5 is standard-to-slightly-wide — wider than most standard D-width badminton shoes but narrower than the U-Shape 3.0 in the A301 IN and P8500. Most Indian players with medium to slightly wide feet will find it comfortable at true size. Players with significantly wide feet (who found U-Shape 3.0 necessary) may find the forefoot slightly snug.
