Aman Sehrawat Sharpens Skills in Japan for 2028 Olympic Glory

Aman Sehrawat, India’s youngest Olympic medalist, has embarked on a training journey to Japan to enhance his wrestling skills. After his bronze medal triumph in Paris, Sehrawat has been in the limelight, but he is now focused on improving his craft.

Based at the renowned Nippon Sport Science University in Yokohama, Sehrawat aims to spar with Paris Olympics gold medalist Rei Higuchi, who defeated him in the semi-finals. The Yokohama facility has produced numerous Japanese wrestling champions, particularly in lower weight divisions.

Sehrawat’s coach, Lalit Kumar, believes the Paris loss has motivated him to understand the Japanese wrestling style. “Aman was outplayed by Higuchi, and it rankled him. He wants to study their training methods,” Kumar said.

Sehrawat’s training in Japan will continue until early December, after which he will head to Dagestan, Russia, for further training. Kumar emphasizes that this is an ideal time for Sehrawat to train and prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“There is no competition coming up soon, so now is the best time to train and regain strength. The 2028 Olympics is our target, and Aman is determined to upgrade his medal,” Kumar said.

Sehrawat’s training in Japan is part of a trend of Indian wrestlers seeking to train at the Yokohama facility. Anshu Malik, a two-time Olympian, has also trained there.
