Bangladesh’s T20I Squad for Australia Series Undergoes Changes

Bangladesh’s T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia has undergone three changes from the ODI series, which the visitors won convincingly 3-0. Fargana Hoque, Disha Biswas, and Nishita Akter have been replaced by Dilara Akter, Fariha Trisna, and Shorifa Khatun.

Fargana, who had scores of 0, 7, and 5 in the three ODIs, has been omitted from the squad. Dilara Akter, a wicketkeeper-batter, has been brought in as her replacement. Chief selector Sajjad Ahmed believes that Dilara has the talent to succeed in the T20 format.

Fariha Trisna, a left-arm pacer, has been included in the squad to add variety to the bowling attack. She replaces Disha Biswas, who was part of the ODI squad. Shorifa Khatun, an all-rounder who bowls off-spin and bats in the late order, has also been added to the squad. She is seen as a potential T20 specialist.

The three T20Is will be held at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on March 31, April 2, and April 4. All three matches will start at 12:00pm local time.

17-Year-Old South African Pacer Kwena Maphaka Makes IPL Debut for Mumbai Indians

17-Year-Old South African Pacer Kwena Maphaka Makes IPL Debut for Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians (MI) made a bold move by handing a debut to 17-year-old South African pacer Kwena Maphaka in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Maphaka became the second youngest player to debut for MI in the IPL, after Rasikh Salam, who was just a day younger at 17 years and 353 days when he made his debut in 2019.

Maphaka’s impressive performance in the recently concluded ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker with a record 21 wickets in just six games, earned him a place in the MI squad. The Johannesburg-born pacer is known for his lethal yorkers and can clock speeds of 140 kph.

Maphaka’s debut is a testament to MI’s commitment to nurturing young talent. He will have the opportunity to learn from seasoned pacers like Jasprit Bumrah and the guidance of bowling coach Lasith Malinga.

Maphaka’s inclusion in the MI squad is also a reflection of the growing trend of young overseas players making their mark in the IPL. Mujeeb ur Rahman and Sandeep Lamichhane, both of whom debuted in 2018, have paved the way for Maphaka to showcase his skills on the biggest stage of T20 cricket.

Maphaka’s debut is a significant moment for South African cricket. He is the first South African player to debut for MI in the IPL, and his performance will be closely watched by fans and selectors alike.

Travis Head's Power-Hitting Propels SRH to Electrifying Start Against MI

Travis Head’s Power-Hitting Propels SRH to Electrifying Start Against MI

Travis Head’s blistering knock propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad to a commanding start against Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Head, opening the innings for SRH, unleashed a barrage of boundaries against debutant Kwena Maphaka in the third over, amassing 22 runs off the over. He continued his onslaught, targeting MI skipper Hardik Pandya in the fifth over, smashing three consecutive boundaries before reaching his fifty in just 18 balls, the fastest half-century by an SRH batter in the tournament.

Head’s partnership with his partner saw SRH pile on 81/1 after the Powerplay overs, their best Powerplay score in the league. The Aussie opener departed after scoring 62 off 24 balls, including three sixes and nine fours.

Mumbai Indians, who won the toss and opted to bowl first, made strategic changes, introducing Maphaka for Luke Wood and handing him his IPL debut. SRH also made changes, bringing in Head for Marco Jansen and Jaydev Unadkat for the injured T Natarajan.

Head’s explosive innings provided SRH with a strong foundation to build upon, setting the stage for an enthralling contest in the Indian Premier League. Both teams were seeking redemption after disappointing losses in their opening matches, and Head’s performance gave SRH a much-needed boost.

India's World Cup Hopes Dented by Afghanistan Defeat

India’s World Cup Hopes Dented by Afghanistan Defeat

India’s hopes of qualifying for the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers suffered a setback after they were defeated 2-1 by Afghanistan in a Group A match in Kolkata. The defeat leaves India in second place with four points, behind Qatar (6 points) and ahead of Afghanistan (4 points) and Kuwait (1 point).

India head coach Igor Stimac attributed the loss to a lack of adequate practice and a disjointed performance. He emphasized the need for a minimum three-week camp to prepare the team for international engagements.

“Half of our players are unable to bring that intensity which is needed to take the game to the desired level. I cannot change that in five days (the practice time India got before the match) and I have been saying this many times over in the last few months,” Stimac said.

Stimac also pointed out that many Indian players play a secondary role for their clubs, which affects their performance at the international level. He stressed the importance of proper preparation time to allow players to reorient themselves to their playing positions.

Despite the defeat, Stimac remains optimistic about India’s chances of qualifying for the third round. He believes that the team can improve with a longer camp and better preparation.

“Of course, we can qualify. We will be a different team after the long camp that will come up after the ISL (ahead of the next match against Kuwait) and hopefully get things right in the end and qualify to the third round,” Stimac said.

India’s next match is against Kuwait on June 13 in Kuwait City. A win in that match will be crucial for India’s hopes of qualifying for the third round.

Kasun Rajitha Ruled Out of Second Bangladesh Test, Asitha Fernando Replaces Him

Kasun Rajitha Ruled Out of Second Bangladesh Test, Asitha Fernando Replaces Him

Sri Lanka’s fast bowling woes continue as Kasun Rajitha has been ruled out of the second Test against Bangladesh due to a back injury. Asitha Fernando will replace Rajitha in the squad, who had also been sidelined with a hamstring injury but has recovered ahead of schedule.

Rajitha sustained the injury during the first Test in Sylhet, where he played through the pain and claimed eight wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. However, the injury has forced him to return home for rehabilitation.

“Kasun Rajitha will not be available for the second test match as the player has suffered an injury to his left upper back area,” stated an SLC media release. “Kasun will return home to start rehabilitation work.”

Fernando, who has 41 wickets in 13 Tests, has a strong record against Bangladesh, having taken 13 wickets in two Tests at an average of 16.61. His inclusion will provide Sri Lanka with a much-needed boost in the absence of Rajitha.

Rajitha’s injury is the latest in a string of setbacks for Sri Lanka’s fast bowling unit. Dilshan Madushanka was recently ruled out of the IPL with a hamstring injury, while Matheesha Pathirana missed Chennai Super Kings’ opening game with a similar issue. Dushmantha Chameera is also a long-term absentee after injuring his left quadricep earlier this year.

Sri Lanka will be hoping that Fernando can step up and fill the void left by Rajitha in the second Test, which begins on March 30 in Chattogram.

Carlos Alcaraz Meets Steph Curry After Miami Open Victory

Miami Open’s top seed, Carlos Alcaraz, had a memorable Tuesday that included a tennis victory and a meeting with NBA superstar Steph Curry.

After defeating Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-3, Alcaraz rushed to the Kaseya Center to catch the Miami Heat take on the Golden State Warriors. Despite the Warriors’ 113-92 victory, Alcaraz was thrilled to meet Curry after the game.

Alcaraz is not the first tennis star to cross paths with Curry. In recent weeks, Curry has posed for selfies with both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz’s focus now shifts back to the Miami Open, where he aims to defend his title. The Spaniard is just three wins away from the semifinals, with a quarterfinal match against Grigor Dimitrov standing in his way.

Alcaraz’s victory over Musetti was a dominant performance. The 19-year-old Spaniard broke Musetti’s serve twice in each set and never faced a break point himself.

Alcaraz’s win streak in Miami now stands at 10 matches. He is the youngest player to reach the quarterfinals of the Miami Open since Rafael Nadal in 2005.

Ravi Bopara Recalls Preity Zinta's Paratha Treat and Praises Jasprit Bumrah

Ravi Bopara Recalls Preity Zinta’s Paratha Treat and Praises Jasprit Bumrah

Former England and Punjab Kings all-rounder Ravi Bopara has shared fond memories of his time with the franchise during the 2009-10 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Bopara, who played for Punjab Kings for two seasons, participated in 15 matches for the team.

One of the most memorable moments for Bopara was when team owner Preity Zinta personally prepared delicious paranthas for him. “Those were the early days in the IPL, when it was a party, those were the great days,” said Bopara in FanCode’s IPL show ‘The Super Over’.

Bopara, who scored 386 runs for Punjab Kings, went on to share a heartwarming anecdote. “The standout moment apart from winning, and getting my highest score, was when Preity Zinta cooked parathas for me. She made them with her own hands. When she asked me what I wanted for breakfast, I mentioned aloo parathas, and she graciously made them herself. I am forever thankful for that gesture,” Bopara said.

Apart from his culinary experiences, Bopara also had high praise for Jasprit Bumrah, saying he is amongst the best T20 fast bowlers in the world, and is likely to be the greatest ever whenever he calls time on his career. He also called on SRH to promote Heinrich Klassen up to no.3 spot based on his impressive form in the tournament so far.

Apart from Punjab Kings, Bopara also represented Sunrisers Hyderabad (in 2015) in his IPL career. He played 9 matches for the Orange Army.
