"The Gallant Tour's smash, with a little less to carry."

The Gallant Tour Limited Edition (Dragon) is Maxbolt's attacking flagship in a limited-run Dragon colourway. It keeps everything that defines the Gallant Tour: a head-heavy balance, a stiff high-modulus carbon graphite shaft, a 40T carbon graphite frame, a 43 lbs tension rating and Maxbolt's "Attack" play style. At GOS it is the 4U option in the Gallant Tour line, while the standard Black and White Gallant Tour are 3U.

The lighter frame is the point. You keep a heavy, steep smash, and the racket is a little quicker to bring back in drives and at the net, which makes it easier to live with over a long match. The honest limitation is still defence and rushed exchanges: it is a head-heavy, stiff, advanced frame, so fast smashes to the body and scrambling rallies remain its weakest area, and it gives little help to a swing that is not yet developed.

What is the
Gallant Tour Dragon?

01 / 08

The Maxbolt Gallant Tour Limited Edition (Dragon) is the limited-run edition of the Gallant Tour, the attacking flagship of Maxbolt's Gallant series. Maxbolt lists the Limited Edition with a 300 ± 3mm balance point, a standard 675mm length, a 43 lbs tension rating and an "Attack" play style. At GOS it is sold as 4U with a G5 grip.

The build is the Gallant Tour's: a head-heavy balance to put mass behind the shuttle, a stiff high-modulus carbon graphite shaft that returns a fast swing directly into the shot, and a 40T carbon graphite frame rated to 43 lbs so advanced players can string it tight. What changes is the weight class. At GOS the standard Gallant Tour is 3U; the Dragon is the 4U option, so the same attacking character comes in a frame that is a little quicker to swing.

The Dragon's defining decision is keeping the Gallant Tour's attacking build while moving to 4U. You give up a little of the 3U's raw smash weight, and in return the racket is easier to bring back between shots and less tiring over a long match — the trade most club-level advanced players benefit from.

positioning

Technology
breakdown

04 / 08

The same stiff, head-heavy build in 4U — what does the lighter frame change?

Gallant Tour Dragon — 4U

Quicker reset Exit Heavy smash · easier to swing
✓ Power with a quicker swing

Alternative — 3U Gallant Tour

Exit Heaviest smash · more tiring
More weight behind the shot, slower to reset
Balance
Head-heavy · 300 ± 3mm

Weight toward the head keeps the Gallant Tour's heavy, steep attack even in the lighter frame.

Material
40T carbon graphite frame

Zone-by-zone assessment

Zone Rating Performance Assessment
Smashes 91 Exceptional The racket's identity. Head-heavy balance and a stiff shaft give a heavy, steep smash — a little less weight behind it than the 3U Gallant Tour, but still a serious attacking frame.
Flat drives 85 Exceptional Pacey and direct off the stiff shaft, and the 4U frame keeps up better in consecutive drives than the 3U.
Control 84 Good Precise placement for a player with clean technique; the stiff shaft does not forgive a mistimed shot the way a flexible frame would.
Net play 79 Good Firm net kills when early, and a touch quicker to raise than the 3U; tight net exchanges still favour a lighter-headed racket.
Maneuverability 78 Good Easier to bring back than the 3U Gallant Tour, but still a head-heavy frame rather than a speed racket.
Defence 77 Good Honest limitation. The head-heavy balance that powers the smash makes quick defensive resets harder — fast smashes to the body take more effort to recover from.

Real on-court situations

Situation Level What the player feels
Full smash from the rear court Exceptional Heavy and steep — the Gallant Tour's attack in a lighter frame.
Deep clear under pressure Exceptional Head weight carries it to the back line with a full swing.
Mid-court drive exchange Exceptional Direct and pacey, and easier to keep up with than the 3U.
Steep half-smash or drop Good Precise off the stiff shaft when the swing is clean.
Late in a long match Good Less tiring than the 3U — the main reason to choose the 4U.
Net kill when arriving early Good Decisive and firm.
Smash straight at the body Adequate Still a head-heavy frame — get the racket up early.
