Divyansh Panwar Aims for Redemption at World Cup Finals

Divyansh Panwar, India’s promising rifle shooter, is determined to regain his form and confidence as he embarks on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic cycle. After missing out on the Paris Olympics, Panwar is eager to prove his worth at the World Cup Finals in New Delhi.

Panwar’s journey has been marked by both success and setbacks. He rose to prominence with his unique shooting stance and exceptional marksmanship, earning him a place in the Indian senior rifle team at the age of 16. He achieved his first major international success at the 2019 World Cup Finals in Putian, China, winning both the individual and mixed team events.

However, the road to Tokyo was not without its challenges. Panwar faced increased competition at the domestic circuit and struggled to maintain his form. After missing out on the Paris Olympics, he took a three-month break from shooting to reassess his technique and mental approach.

Panwar has since made significant adjustments to his shooting stance, reducing the stress on his back. He has also recognized the importance of mental strength in shooting and is working on improving his focus and concentration.

“Doing well at the World Cup Finals will mean a lot to my confidence and belief,” Panwar said. “It’s been a while since I climbed the podium. It’ll be the start of a new Olympic cycle and I want to begin well.”

Panwar is aware of the intense competition he faces, but he remains optimistic. He believes that Indian shooters need to adopt a more relaxed approach to the sport, similar to their Chinese and American counterparts.

“We need to be more relaxed,” Panwar said. “If you look at the Chinese or the Americans, they don’t approach sport as if their life depends on it. For them, shooting is a part of life; for us, it is the center of our existence. That’s the reason they are able to raise their game at the highest stage.”

Panwar is confident that he can overcome his recent setbacks and regain his place among the world’s top shooters. He is determined to make the most of the World Cup Finals and use it as a springboard for success in the years to come.
