Joe Root and Harry Brook forged an unprecedented 454-run stand for the fourth wicket, shattering the previous record of 449 set by Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh in 2015.
This remarkable partnership is not only the highest for the fourth wicket in Test history but also the highest ever for any wicket by a pair away from home. It also surpasses the previous highest partnership against Pakistan, set by Australia in 1934.
Root, who recently surpassed Alastair Cook as England’s all-time leading Test run-scorer, looked set to challenge Brian Lara’s 400-run total. However, he was dismissed for 262 by Agha Salman, just after he and Brook had broken the world record.
