Jagan Kumar, the legendary Indian motorcycle racer, has bid farewell to the sport after a remarkable 15-year career. With 11 national championship titles to his name, Jagan has etched his name in the annals of Indian motorsports.
Growing up in humble beginnings, Jagan’s passion for motorcycles ignited at a young age. Despite financial constraints, he worked tirelessly to fulfill his dream of owning a bike. In 2006, a visit to the Madras International Circuit (MIC) ignited his racing aspirations.
With unwavering determination, Jagan borrowed a friend’s bike and began practicing. In 2007, he obtained his racing license and made his debut in the TVS One-Make Championship. His exceptional talent was evident from the start, as he finished second in his first race and won the second.
Jagan’s performances caught the attention of TVS, who offered him a factory ride in 2009. This partnership provided him with the necessary support to compete at the highest level. In his debut year in the national championship, Jagan won the Novice Stock 125cc category.
From 2012 to 2018, Jagan dominated the Pro-Stock 165cc category, winning the national title for seven consecutive years. His record-breaking run established him as the undisputed king of Indian motorcycle racing. In 2020 and 2021, he added two more titles to his tally.
In 2015, Jagan became the first Indian to win a race in the Asia Road Racing Championship. He also achieved podium finishes in subsequent years, showcasing his international prowess.
Now, as Jagan retires from racing, he plans to share his vast knowledge with the younger generation. He will continue to work with TVS as part of their rider training program and will also test their bikes.
