LeBron and Bronny James Make NBA History as Father-Son Duo

LeBron James and his son, Bronny James, have made history as the first father-son duo to play on the same NBA team. Bronny was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th pick in the 2023 rookie draft, giving LeBron the opportunity to share the court with his 19-year-old son.

Early footage from Lakers training camp has provided a glimpse of the pair practicing together. In one video, they can be seen working on their three-point shooting alongside young guard Max Christie. LeBron expressed his excitement about playing alongside his son, saying, “It’s pure joy to be able to come to work every day and put in the hard work with your son.”

Bronny has shown impressive form in the warmup, nailing six consecutive three-pointers. While his father has played as a forward throughout his career, Bronny will be on the Lakers roster as a guard, with shooting being his primary scoring weapon.

The Lakers’ new coach, JJ Reddick, was also present at the training session. Reddick, a former NBA sharpshooter turned analyst, was brought onto the coaching staff after his podcast with LeBron James, called ‘Mind the Game.’

LeBron James enters the season as the oldest player in the NBA, but remains one of the best. He was a key part of Team USA’s gold-medal run at the Paris Olympics alongside Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

Fans will get the opportunity to watch the James duo potentially boot up together for the first time in the Lakers’ preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Their first regular season game against the same opposition is scheduled for October 23rd. The Lakers will be looking to make a stronger run under Reddick after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets in 2024.
