Mizoram Football Association Cracks Down on Match-Fixing Scandal

In a major blow to the integrity of football in Mizoram, the Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has imposed severe sanctions on three clubs, 24 players, and three officials for their involvement in match-fixing during the recently concluded Mizoram Premier League (MPL-11).

The MFA’s investigation, conducted in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, uncovered a web of corruption that had infiltrated the state’s top football league. As a result, Sihphir Venghlun FC, FC Bethlehem, and Ramhlun Athletic FC have been banned from all football activities for three years.

Two players have been handed lifetime bans, while four have received five-year bans and 10 have been suspended for three years. Eight individuals involved in the scandal have also been banned for one year.

The MFA’s statement condemned the actions of those involved, stating that they “represent a severe breach of our values, undermine the integrity of our sport, and disrespect the fans who passionately support Mizoram Football.”

The association emphasized its commitment to transparency and integrity, assuring stakeholders that clubs and individuals implicated in match-fixing will face severe consequences.

The scandal has cast a shadow over the reputation of the MPL-11, but the MFA has vowed to move forward with a renewed focus on fair play and ethical conduct. The association has called upon the football community to stand with them as they navigate this challenging chapter.

The MFA’s swift and decisive action sends a strong message that match-fixing will not be tolerated in Mizoram football. It is a testament to the association’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the sport and protecting the interests of its fans.
