MS Dhoni, the legendary wicket-keeper batter, once again proved his mettle in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. The 42-year-old left fans and experts spellbound with his trademark power-hitting, slamming Hardik Pandya for three consecutive sixes at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Dhoni’s blistering knock of 20 runs off just 4 balls at a strike rate of 500 played a crucial role in taking the Chennai Super Kings’ total beyond the 200-run mark. However, concerns arose after the match when a video surfaced on social media showing Dhoni limping with padding around his knee.
Dhoni has been battling a knee injury since IPL 2023, undergoing surgery after the competition. CSK bowling consultant Eric Simmons revealed that Dhoni has been struggling with the injury but has bravely decided to continue playing for the team.
“Everyone else is more interested in his injuries than he is. He’s one of the hardest men I’ve ever come across. I don’t even think we know to what extent he may or may not be in pain. He just carries on and does his thing,” Simmons said after CSK’s victory over MI.
Despite the injury, Dhoni’s determination and resilience were evident in his performance against Mumbai Indians. His six-hitting spree against Pandya showcased his unwavering spirit and ability to deliver under pressure.
However, the injury concerns remain, and it remains to be seen how Dhoni’s knee will hold up throughout the IPL season. The veteran batter has limited himself to a finisher’s role for CSK, but his contributions are invaluable to the team’s success.
