Rohit Sharma Out of Third Day of Fifth Test with Stiff Back

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, was forced to sit out the third day of the fifth Test against England in Dharamsala due to a stiff back. Jasprit Bumrah, the designated vice-captain, took over the leadership responsibilities.

Rohit’s absence was a significant blow to India, as he has been in excellent form throughout the series. He has scored centuries in two of the last three Tests and played a crucial role in establishing India’s advantage in Dharamsala.

With Rohit out of action, India’s top-order batsmen stepped up to the plate. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill both scored half-centuries, while Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant made valuable contributions.

India’s bowlers also performed well, with Mohammed Siraj and Ravichandran Ashwin taking three wickets each. England were bowled out for 245, giving India a lead of 259 runs.

India’s victory in Dharamsala gives them an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series. It is a remarkable achievement, considering that they lost the first Test in Hyderabad.

However, India’s victory has been overshadowed by a spate of injuries. Mohammed Shami, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, and Rajat Patidar have all missed matches due to various ailments.

With the IPL just around the corner, India will be hoping that their injured players can recover in time. The IPL is a grueling tournament, and India will need all of their best players available if they want to win the title.

Devdutt Padikkal Makes Test Debut as India Announces Changes for Dharamsala Test

The Indian cricket team has made two changes to its squad for the fifth and final Test against England in Dharamsala, with Devdutt Padikkal becoming the 314th player to represent India in the longest format of the game. Padikkal replaces Rajat Patidar, who sustained an injury in a training session on the eve of the match.

Patidar’s performance in the series had been underwhelming, but captain Rohit Sharma had expressed confidence in the batter at a press conference on Wednesday. However, Rohit revealed at the toss that Padikkal would be replacing Patidar in the playing XI.

“We would have batted first as well. We have done really well so far in this series and an opportunity to finish on a high. There should be good bounce on this pitch than the games before in this series. Good pitch to bat on and I don’t think it will deteriorate that much. Ash has been a real stalwart of Indian cricket. Such a proud moment for him, his nation and the family. We will be rooting for him to do the magic,” Rohit said on Thursday morning.

The Patidar-Padikkal swap was not the only change in the team, with Jasprit Bumrah returning to the side in place of Akash Deep.

“Bumrah is back, Akash Deep misses out. Devdutt Padikkal makes his debut as Patidar got injured last evening,” Rohit concluded.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an update on Patidar’s status, stating that he “got hit on his left ankle during Team India’s practice session on 6th March, 2024. He pulled up sore on the morning of the game and was not available for selection for the 5th Test.”

Padikkal, a left-handed opening batter, has been in impressive form for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has scored over 1,000 runs in the last two seasons, including a century in the 2023 edition.

Bumrah, on the other hand, is a key member of India’s bowling attack. He has been rested for the first four Tests of the series but is expected to play a crucial role in the final match.

India will be looking to seal a 4-0 series victory in Dharamsala, while England will be aiming to salvage some pride after losing the first four Tests.

Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav, currently sidelined during the Test series against England, took to social media to playfully tease teammate Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah, who is set to return for the final Test against England, posted images with support staff Yogesh Parmar and Arun Kanade on Instagram. The pictures featured similar poses, prompting Suryakumar to comment, “Find the difference wala game hai kya?”

Bumrah, who was released from the squad for the fourth Test in Ranchi as part of the team’s workload management policy, will lead the Indian attack in the final Test in Dharamsala, beginning March 7. India has already taken an unassailable 3-1 lead, following their victory in the fourth Test in Ranchi.

Suryakumar, who was recently spotted with his wife Devisha Shetty at the pre-wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, has been a key player for the Mumbai Indians since 2018. He has played a crucial role in the team’s success, contributing with both bat and ball.

Suryakumar’s playful comment on Bumrah’s post highlights the camaraderie within the Indian team. Despite the intense competition on the field, the players share a strong bond off the field. This camaraderie is essential for team success, as it fosters a positive and supportive environment.

Bumrah’s return to the Indian team is a significant boost for the side. The pace spearhead is one of the best bowlers in the world and his presence will strengthen the Indian bowling attack. With Bumrah leading the charge, India will be confident of securing a series victory against England in the final Test.
